Android Auto Connection Issues

Featured Replies

Some info for other Android Auto users.....

I had issues after upgrading from an S7 to S20+.

One of the main differences between the S7 and S20+ is the change from USB B to USB C connections, meaning I had to buy new cables.

Initially, with the new cables, the Android Auto connection was fine but then it would drop out intermittently, e.g. going down a bumpy road. Sometimes the connection would come back, sometimes not. I tried another cable but no difference.

The cables I had bought were mid price range, so I decided to try a more expensive cable for 3A charging and Data Sync. Hey presto no more dropping out.

May the the tolerances on the new cable are tighter and fit better in the phone socket.

Is this a case of you get what you pay for?

Good quality cables have always been paramount in ensuring a stable connection.

I bought some USB C male to Micro USB female adaptors.

They are about 20 mm long and just fit on the end of any cables I already had.

Still all working three years later. Fit and forget for me.

Thanks, AG Falco

Yeah, I thought about this but prefer to keep the number of connections down.

Turned out expensive. 😄😄😄

I am finding I have to buy a new cable every few months as it seems to lose the tightness over time. Don't really understand how this happens but it definitely does! I have tried all sorts of different cables and it happens to all of them!

For a good while I thought there was a lose connection within the car itself somewhere, there was one particular bump what would always disconnect it, but then realised when moving the phone it would occasionally disconnect. The cable itself is a mid range one so works 99% of the time, but has excellent timing when I'm using google maps and about to hit a serious of directions within a city, and bam, blank screen.

It got pretty bad last week, wouldn't connect most of the time but I spotted there was an Android Auto update which may have introduced a bug. There was another update over the weekend which seemed to have resolved that.

Never noticed a problem with cables / dropout once I have a connection, but getting the car to talk to my phone in the first place, that's another thing altogether. Third Skoda that won't import my phone contact either, no matter what I do.

@stever750 - sorry to hear you having issues with Android Auto.  I suspect it will be a firmware update that will need to be applied to your Bolaro/Amunsden or Columbus system.

Can you take a photo of the front of the system and then when switched on - Press and HOLD the Menu Button, go to Software Version and then press Versions at the top of the screen - and take a photo of that info pls.

Will do later, but last 3 Skodas (ll bought new) have had the same issue - it's a know connectivity thing with LG V30 phone which is documented somewhere in the Superb threads. My Superb, vRS Tdi, Karoq and now my 19 plate vRS has the same issue, so I don't think it's a firmware issue.

At this point, we need to bring is @pab567 who can hopefully give you access to the 0478 firmware needed to get your system working properly.  0472 is rather old and glitchy for your Amunsden.

Phone USB sockets fill up with dust, which eventually causes unreliable connections. They need cleaning out occasionally.

I tried my work phone on apple car play, immediately works 🥲

By any chance is it a Samsung Galaxy S22, there's a known issue with this phone connecting to AA.

Apparently it's been resolved recently but I've yet to see it working. My missus has an S22 and AA on it has never worked in her Octavia.

There was supposed to be a Beta AA release with the fix but I've been waiting for the full release to try it again.

nah its a note 8, running android 9.

When i first got the car it worked (intermittently) then decided no more.

I even had a carsifi wireless AA unit arrive today. that also wont connect. just does an endless "connecting, disconnected" loop same as if i plug the phone in and click connect

My USB connection at the car end is dodgy in mine.

If I connect, then just touch it, it drops, every time. Tried a few diff cables, all do the same.

Guess the USB port is a bit loose.

The usb protocol/connection on the skoda side should be a universal standard. I don't know what the interface is rated for (A2.0 probably)

If it worked for apple car play it should work for android auto.

Right now without another android phone I can't tell if its car or phone that is the issue. Its probably the phone I assume

I had the same problem and found that if you twist the cable a few times  before plugging into the phone it applies enough pressure to keep the connection improved. Not a permanent fix but better than nothing.

I also found that the connection eventually fails to connect at all. The only solution is to reset the infotainment unit.

Good idea, I don't use it enough it annoys me, to take it apart.
