Apple carplay

Featured Replies

Any help please.just been reading about pro and cons about Apple CarPlay.there is a few people saying you cannot use a Samsung android phone on Apple CarPlay and there is some saying you can.who is right?

Apple CarPlay is Apple's own thing, ie. it's functional only with iPhones (and perhaps with iPads?).

For Android phones like your Samsung there is Android Auto, which basically same thing as CarPlay but for Android phones. Depending on your phone model and OS it can work either via USB-cable or wirelessly.

I have Samsung s7 although considered an old phone it works perfectly with android auto. E.g.. everything works and is transformed to the car.

There seems to be so many problems with the new Skoda, and yet to date I have had no problems other than the sat nav saying unknown road when I put in details.

I really must be a lucky one..

In the Skoda sat Nav, have you set a home or work address and does it retain that the next time you come to use it? This is the bit that bugs (sorry 😊) me the most.

I have home and work set up in the sat nav and both are retained.

Carplay is for Apple phones

Android Auto is for Android phones

You can use Samsung phones, but it doesn't connect via Carplay functionality.

I use CarPlay with my iPhone without issue.

As others have stated, for your Samsung you’ll be able to use Android Auto, which AIUI, need a 5Ghz Wi-Fi connection - so depending on the revision level of the car and phone you may or may not need a USB cable connection.

Thank you all for all the info.it just seems strange why skoda has fitted Apple CarPlay into there cars.when knowing not everyone has a Apple i phone.then the cost of fitting Apple CarPlay at the factory you would of thought they would have fitted a system compatible with most phones.

They have, it's CarPlay AND Android Auto compatible - even if their advertising only mentions CarPlay (BTW Lexus have made the same mistake on their TV advertising which only mentions CarPlay but are also Android Auto compatible).
