E10 fuel and 2003 2.0L Fabia MPI

Featured Replies

We have a 2003 Fabia MPI 2.0L estate and cannot find it specifically listed on the new ‘can or cannot take E10’ petrol guidelines.  Does anyone else have one and know the definitive answer please?  The DVLA list does NOT help.  Worried it might be a Bora derivative engine which is problematic with E10 in some cases - or is it a GTI type which is possibly okay?!  And our mechanic  isn’t sure either!  Thanks

I have a 2.0 MPI, you have nothing to fear with E10 fuel, our engines will be unaffected by it and we won't be able to tell any difference when driving it.

E10 has been widely used in parts of Europe for many years without ill effects.

Thanks - it sounds like you haven’t filled up with it yet though?  I know most Skoda’s are fine - it’s just ‘ours’ weren’t listed hence the caution…

I didn't pay any attention when I filled up at Tesco yesterday because I'm not worried about it, is it in circulation yet?

I'm an engineering professional so I fully understand the difference and I can assure you that it's harmless to our engines.

Not sure where his source was for this info, but it may reassure you:

Ah thanks, not what he understood to be happening.  We will maybe just ask our local (rural) garages what they will be stocking!

It's quite simple really.

They will be retailing E10 with up to 10% Bio as required and if they sell Super Unleaded then the will be showing as E5 with up to 5% Bio, but that is the Max they will have of Ethanol and it could be less.

This is ESSO in the UK.

Did you not see in the post I linked that unless you have a Felicia 1.3 you don't have to worry?

I don't think she believes any of us, I'm officially giving up.

I'm going to quote it directly just in case the link is causing trouble, then I'm out.  Re-reading that, below, I wonder if the first instance of the word 'following' is the problem, I'm going to say that is a mistake, and the info makes better sense without that word. [I have struck through the spurious word in the quote below]

E10 petrol is cleared for use in all following ŠKODA vehicles with petrol engines with the following exception:

  • Felicia 1.3 litre OHV (40kw and 50kW) engines in the production years 1994 to 2001
  • Other ŠKODA models using the 1.3 litre OHV engines produced prior to 1994.

NOTE: If your vehicle is listed above you should continue to use E5 petrol. If you are unsure please contact your local Škoda dealer.

Back before they introduced E10 where I live (20 years ago) I remember a fleet of Felicias going around for testing purposes. It's been two decades since then and I see plenty of Favorits and Felicias still chugging along quite happily.

The panic you guys have about E10 is unjustified.
