Tyre pressures MK Superb

Featured Replies

Hi

I have just noticed a warning on the skoda connect app about my tyre pressures being low.

I'm getting confused about the correct pressures for the tyres I have on my car. My tyres are

235 40 R19

and across the 4 tyres I am getting reading ranging from about 1.8 bar (26 psi)  to 2.2 bar (31 psi) -  which I think are way too low.

On the fuel cap lid I am seeing 2.6 - 2.9 bar as a guideline depending on weight loading etc.

2.9 bar is about 42psi which seems a lot to me.

Does anyone have tyres like these on a M3 Superb and what are your typical pressures set at ?

I've just reset all 4 tyres to 2.5 bar (36psi approx) which I think is Ok.

I'm slightly unnerved that I have let the tyre pressures drop so low and was wondering if there was a potential safety risk.

Thanks

On your filler cap will be something similar to this:-

This says for up to 2 people with 14" tyres and a minimum of luggage you should use 2.1bar on the front tyres and 1.9bar in the rear.

From what I can see in your post the minimum should be 2.6bar and not 2.5 though.

Don't forget to reset the TPMS afterwards. 👍

I also drive 235/40/19 tyres and always inflate them to "ECO" recommendations. It suits me perfectly, but I have to say that DCC helps a lot keeping a comfortable ride though the slight overinflation of "ECO" mode.

Note: The overoverinflation of "ECO" mode trend to postpone first signs of saw tooth wear on rear tyres, which is know to cause very unpleasant buzz / purr noise in the cabin on many VAG models.

I looked at mine the other day and thought 40psi sounds a lot so just kept with my default 35psi all round

@MrUkSkodaDriver

It is unnerving that you ran the car with low tyre pressures and there was actually a greater risk of punctures and overheating tyres.

At least you know know to check and set the pressures regularly & reset the TPMS.

IMO the thing about ECO pressures (ECO Tyres as well) is they are what achieves a little better economy by reducing Friction / Traction / Grip on a vehicle so maybe best avoided if grip, traction , braking distances are important which hopefully they are to drivers more than getting maybe 1 or 2 MPG more.

Thanks to all who replied to this thread.

It sounds like what I though were very high pressures are the recommended but I was just a little surprised at such a high figure.

I think I will set the tyres to somewhere between the min and max at about 2.7 bar (39 psi) and see what the ride quality is like and perhaps lower that figure a bit if it appears a bit uncomfortable.

I found 39 psi to be a bit firm. I'm running my 19" Vredestein Quatrac 5's at 36 psi. There's usually just two of us in the car with a light load.

The chap that mounted my tyres was going to send me away with 32 psi, but I thought that was way too low... What do I know?

Yes, seems like 36psi may be about right for most people. I will try 39psi and 36psi

My estate is nearly always fully loaded.

I'm sure my last setting was 2.9F and 3.2R bar, but that seems high when I look at the PSI equivalent.

I suppose as long as your tyres are wearing evenly, not going thin in the middle, you're okay.

I find it curious that for my car the PSI does not have weight-based guidelines.

It simply says 33psi, end of. There are no alternate pressures to correspond with alternate loadings.

I don't think I've ever had any other car that didn't have two PSI recommendations.

I've been running 40psi for a few years now.........I just changed my tyres and have opted for 38psi with this set, which feels ok.

i've been putting 36-38 psi (cold) in my factory 19s for years n years.

my tires generally last 50k to 60k kms :)

the pressures do go up when the tires warm up.....
