Karoq no cd player

Featured Replies

Ok so NO CD player ( I like and want to play them). So can anyone out there recommend a plug and play (will the usb cable plug straight into the usb beside the cigarette lighter socket).

A USB MULTI MEDIA MUSIC DISC PLAYER, that doesn’t cost a fortune?

Maybe a choice!

Thanks in advance.

Willie.

I bought a stand-alone CD player to plug into my laptop a few years ago, but it needed two USB connections and drivers for the laptop. I'd doubt it would work in a Karoq, or sit safely on the sliding cover or under the armrest. I'll not mention the make as it didn't work for long anyway.

If you search for 'Music from USB' you will see a good suggestion for ripping cd's to a usb drive.

You could get a portable CD player with built-in Li-Ion battery and bluetooth and hook it up with a BT connection.  Expensive but removes the need for you to rip all your CD's/  e.g. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bluetooth-Rechargeable-Headphones-Anti-Shock-Protection-CD-903-Black/dp/B08FCGS5WH/ref=sr_1_3?crid=13GTUCS5ONMER&keywords=portable+cd+player+with+bluetooth+lithium&qid=1640088873&sprefix=portable+cd+player+with+bluetooth+lithium%2Caps%2C91&sr=8-3

Looks good, but I don’t have a 3.5 mm Jack socket in the Karoq, will it work simply with the USB cable ?

Not sure what is meant with the BT thing

There is little difference in quality between CD and usb memory stick with the bonus that you can delete the cd tracks you don't like.

Keep up with the technology, I'm using memory sticks, everyone else is Streaming from You tube and Spotify!

BT = Bluetooth

You wouldn't need a cable to connect it to the car. It should connect using Bluetooth, just like pairing a mobile phone.

Best solution is to convert music to USB stick but if you want easy CD solution then

Amazon USB CD player

or

Alternative Amazon CD player

The latter player is just another branded version of the Connects2 player you can buy for £100 odd quid. The Connects2 comes with a mounting bracket - that's the only difference.

It should work easy enough. If it does then what you could do is buy a USB extention cable and mount the unit anywhere in your car.  ( couple of pieces of velco and mount on carpet under your seat for instance.

Exactly 🙂

I have to say though - as someone who did this some years ago, I would RIP all the CD's to FLAC and to MP3, Get all the album art working nicely then consign the CD collection to the loft.

Ok...  Your details say you have a 2014 Yeti 1.2    Given you've posted on the karoq forum, I'm assuming you have a Karoq. What age is your karoq and the USB socket, is it type-A ( thats the larger rectangular type ) or is it type-C ( two smaller phone-like size sockets sitting side-by-side )

EDIT - scrub that - just checked online, the Connect2 isn't compatible with any VW Group cars.

Willie, have you any other interfaces ( connections) to your audio system apart from USB.

PS.  I was born in 1944 and have transferred all CDs to a memory card. Far more convenient than messing about with CDs in a car and quite acceptable quality. CD players also have to be pretty good at dealing with movement as it takes very little to cause the laser head to jump tracks.

As I said, the 2nd ref one on Amazon ( similar to Connects2 )  has a note beside it on Car Audio Direct to say it doesn't with with VW Group cars, as well as a long list of other car manufaturers.

The first one I referenced has a reply from one customer to say that it doesn't work on his Renault but it does work on his 20 reg SEAT Ibiza.  If true then there's a possibility that one could work for you.

Wouldn't a bluetooth CD player with built-in rechargable battery be a simpler and safer option? It could also be used in and around the house if the OP (original poster) ever ventured to get a bluetooth device like a bluetooth speaker etc.  (or was given one as a present). The one I found above also has an FM transmitter so if the bluetooth will not work (as it doesn't work with all cars) then the user can simply tune the radio into 87.5 FM and you can listen that way. It also has an AUX cable to round off all of the connectivity options.   Please note that I am not endorsing the product I linked to above but it seems to be a good solution - any buyer would have to check the reviews carefully and make a purchase descision accordingly 🙂

Given the OP didn't know what BT was then my thought process is keep it as simple as possible. With all the best will in the world, BT isn't the most reliable medium and I fear the OP may end up visiting these pages more often than he'd like asking "what's wrong, my BT connection doesn't appear to work". With USB you're effectively hard wiring the product so in theory it should be trouble free.

Agreed and True 🙂

I still had a ration card

BT can be interpreted as British Telecom, which probably caused confusion.

As has been said before, there is no CD player that is compatible to simply plug into the USB socket.

If you really don't want to convert your CDs, your best bet is something like this CD player with an FM transmitter.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B091YP389H

Plug it into the USB to charge, play the disc, and then tune the radio to the station that it transmits.
