You people baffle me… 😂

Featured Replies

Going through the threads on this forum it seems that no one does any research before they spend tens of thousands of (insert currency here) of their money.

Complaining and wanting to change so much stuff, suspension, in car ICE, charging points, how the safety stuff is set up, fitting options after receiving the car, removing options after receiving the car. Blimey it’s crazy!!

I spent a while going through the options of all the cars I was considering and did appropriate test drives to decide what I wanted. And now I have a car which I am happy with.

Do some people just throw some dice to decide what to order? Or were you forced at gunpoint to get an Octavia?

I know I’ll get flamed for this as some people wont notice a (hopefully well intended) joke or are the perpetually offended. 😂😂😂

That is like half of the threads, people just assume things, don't do enough research and then find out it doesn't actually fit what they want. I think this is mostly because a lot of people who get new cars are leasing them for a few years at most, so they can't be bothered to actually invest time into researching and just go with it.

They will have researched if their phone is compatible with the infotainment system, what else could possibly be important? 😆

And then they can creat threads like "my phone will not sync" "Android car play not working" "Problems with Skoda Connect" etc.

Me I want a car for driving during which time my non smartphone will be switched off.

You try buying a new car that doesn't have at least one of "randomly second guess you over gear selection", "randomly do an emergency stop because a crisp packet blew in front of you", "randomly steer you into a parked car", "randomly decide you're trying to undertake the car to your left", "try to force you into the middle of a lane when you're trying to avoid ruts and/or potholes"... fitted.

I agree. I do not agree with the concept of phoning people whilst driving. I drive, usually, to flush my mind of the people who annoy me. :D

For many people it's also because specs may not suit and options kits sometimes combine many elements, all of which may not be wanted...   So some people buy a car then tailor it to suit themselves.

My car selection gets based on what is on my company car list. You choose the best one available on limited knowledge.

Currently got a mk3 and waiting for delivery of my mk4.

When I had to choose there wasn't a single Skoda dealership within 200 miles that had a Octavia IV estate in that I could actually see.

In terms of phones. I need to know if it will connect so I can use android auto for navigation. As I'm expecting the mk4 built in navigation to be as rubbish as the mk3. Plus its always nice to be able to stream music.

Love this forum as there is always someone that can help with any type of question.

Ninja your post !!

When i ordered my car in December 2020 , i had done my research , i had looked at other brands. I compared lots of different parameters, such as 0-60 ( I wanted a spirited drive), wheels, tyres ,MPG , ride quality and what the reviews said and many more. I took the time to see if it was something i wanted , i visited the dealers ( VW , AUDI SEAT &SKODA) , i took a test drive of a few brands over various weekends. I DID ALL THE DUE DILLEGENCE I COULD HAVE DONE!!!. I couldn't have forecasted the software faults and wouldn't even have thought that to be a problem as under the sales of goods act all products should be fit for purpose and free from faults.

If i had known i wouldn't have picked the car . Why would i want to have a poor experience with a new car or any new product. I have had 3 previous Skoda's and they performed faultlessly .

I never complained about ICE or DCC or sun f-in roofs ,

I complained that the car calls the SOS services randomly , freezes the info screen, changes user profiled regularly, never remembers last setup, wants to change user profile every start up, brakes when nothing is there , tells you your miles from your sat nav position. The list goes on

The CAR IS F-D and that is no fault of mine . I am not a beta tester for VW group software at my expense.

No F-in dice were thrown , i expect my product to be free from faults as per my rights as a consumer.

Geeez dude you need to chill.
I never mentioned faults, that’s a seperate issue.
Maybe giving up the car and walking in some fresh air might help you calm down. 😂😂

.....but when you have assessed and reviewed then ordered the car, only to find this generation is beset by so many software issues some minor many though dangerous let alone distracting while driving and the dealers are in the dark as much as the owners I wonder if Skoda will kill off the Octavia when this comes up for renewal as this generation has been a software design mess

Killing the name off would more likely be done when introducing its fully electric replacement; whenever that may be.

It’s still the brands biggest seller. Software issues are not a reason to bury it.

..and even you have your place in our community who have no car related direct questions just want to have some attantion and watch a couple of us taking your post seriously

I’m really glad that almost all of our silly questions here (in this forum) are treated well and will be answered in short time.

Even if we diced the car, at full moon, drinking black cat blood..

So, what you are saying is true, and I agree with it, but I feel “you like to watch things burn” instead of help.

Just realised (again), why I try to avoid facebook and such forums..

(That’s all from me on this sunny Sunday morning. Might wash the car today.)

not sunny up here it is p<>>I>>G down.

Likewise. Even though most of my friends use @r$ebook.

Hi,

I think the same, when I had a Golf GTI people were on the forum changing all sorts of stuff of a Golf SE upgrading it to look like a GTI, when I questioned why are you doing it, I got slaughtered. I have in January this year bought a Octavia VRS, love it to bits. The Sat Nav only gives you 1 option my Golf gave me 3, but I think the Skoda is great value.

Quoting myself here, the following I copied at random from another thread which illustrates to me the disconnect between myself, a driver and vehicle maintenance enthusiast and the newer generation of owners, its not aimed at the person who posted it, it could have been any of the comments in the thread:

I have spin enabled, am the primary user and have biometric set too.

It’s always wrong when I open the app. Happens on my driveway, happens at the supermarket etc. it always seems to need me to press the refresh button and wait 10-20 seconds.

it’s like either the app isn’t pulling down the data (background refresh on iPhone is enabled) or something is wrong during the information update when the app opens.

Maybe the mobile reception for the e-sim is weak. But that doesn’t explain why it works when I press refresh…

I’ve tried reloading the app, doesn’t help.

I am not ashamed, maybe even proud to say that I do not have a clue what the above means nor do I want to, it also illustrates why when I scan through "Active Topics" most of them these days I have no interest in reading.

The title of this thread was very apt for my reaction when I read the above or other similar postings.
