Error: ABS / Stabilisation control (ESC)

Featured Replies

We tried to read the codes with a device but no codes are stored for this error - just come back blank.

Any heads up what could be causing the problem? When we drive we have all three of the orange lights on and an audible warning noise beeps three times when we start the ignition.

Have you checked the reluctor rings, for being split/missing or otherwise damaged?

Good place to start.

Blown fuse?

Will likely be a wheel Speed sensor or ring. Possibly wiring need to read codes to find which one unless you can test a sensor yourself. The cheap code readers only read the engine ecu you need something that can read the abs ecu.

What is on the 2nd fault page?

oh, that just the miles run etc - not another error - I’m in the vehicle status section of the menu.

Yes there are, ABS and Stabilisation errors in orange on the right dial, what's the one on the left?

So page 2/2 isn’t an error, it’s the miles run etc - but reading up, another comment maybe correct that it’s an error in the steering wheel?… I’ve seen that error before with an airbag light when the airbag failed (but didn’t fail) and the squib ring had to be replaced.

So has that light been on since the clockspring was replaced.
And yes I still hold that that is page 1 of 2 pages of errors.

Use VCDS or another high level dedicated diagnostic device.

When I had this towards the end of last year we suspected a wheel speed sensor. Mate of mine has a diagnostic device, when we plugged it in we saw hundreds of errors relating to ... rear left wheel speed sensor. £20 part replaced by myself in under 10 minutes, no more errors.

Just to confirm page 2 was the service status and not another error (now 3/3 because the doors are open, so that’s 1/3, the error is 2/3, and the service status is 3/3).

my local independent is pretty good at plugging in for free to get a diagnostics, so I’ll give this a try, but assume at this point based on all your tips and experience it’s a sensor error as everything is “working”, including power steering.

I’ve checked the abs fuses, and all fine.

Had previously fixed a throttle cutout problem by using forums first and then having the throttle plate cleaned. Great stuff.

Are these errors similar to your experience? I'm guessing the first relates to the AWD not working due to the sensor not working? not sure on 00668 - but again, could be due to the wheel speed sensor not working perhaps? Looks like I could give it a try changing it, and if no luck - take it to my local skoda garage for a full diagnostics on the electrical circuit?...

Where you able to replace the sensor without having to remove the brakes? Thanks!

update with question

I had a sudden 'Christmas tree' of six orange lights, driving on the M40.

A bit alarming for a mechanical dunce!  AA Patrol at nearest M'Way Services read the codes and declared safe to proceed with journey.

Subsequently over the next two days, the lights cycled off and then back on again.

Failed NSR ABS Sensor. replaced under warranty.

It's a £20 part, replaced using nothing more than an Allen key - 4mm I think. Mine was on the rear near-side wheel and I didn't have to remove anything at all, just the sensor.

Update to these error codes - I finally got round to change the left sensor and the warnings haven't updated with an initial car start - which likely suggests it may be the wiring instead.

Unless, do I need to clear the error codes to know if it's fixed? Or should they clear on their own if the issue is fixed?

A lot of the stored fault codes need to be cleared to see if they reappear.

You need to clear the codes manually - if they cleared themselves you'd be deprived of useful history when it comes to intermittent faults.

ah, thanks - I took the car to garage to clear the codes - warning lights came back straight away - so assume it's cabling issue. Booked in to the Skoda garage for a more comprehensive diagnostics on the ABS.

Unless there's any recommendations of other parts I can try and replace? or clean? While I wait for the appointment 🤷‍♂️ Not sure where to look for the bulk of the ABS wiring to simply inspect.

We have a Superb MII 2013 Facelift.

Multiple warning lights on dash appeared a few weeks ago

ABS

Power steering

Traction control

And the tyre warning light

- drove straight to mechanic who plugged it into the diagnostic. He says its a sensor - so he has ordered one. We are just waiting on it coming.

Meanwhile, I have noticed the pump, pump, pump of the ABS failing through the foot pedals. I really hope its just a sensor

Hello, I'm late to this thread. My skoda yeti has exhibited these same errors yesterday. They seem to clear after a short drive. I presumed it was a sensor. Would you recall what sensor it was that needed replacing?

Mine, a couple of years ago, was a wheel speed (ABS) sensor and, yes, rather dramatic in its random comings and goings.
