This one (not mine) was still firmly attached to the motor and when the owner took it of, it was already melted a bit on the back side near the turbo.

Interesting.  I've just removed mine (March 2020, 12000 miles) and it didn't feel at all loose and showed no sign of melting or heat damage.

By the way, I did feel the message on the Infotainment screen advising about this was poorly worded and should have included instructions on how to remove it.  It would have been useful to know that it just pulls off with no tools required, otherwise some people might make a pointless trip to the dealer just to have them pull it off, when they could easily have done it themselves.

  • Well, I dropped the VRS TSi down to the dealer for a small job and I came out to find a cover fitted. I had none from new.   I tried to pull it up to see part numbers but it's all sponge. Th

It's not just that the cover can get loose over time. Even if it's not loose, it can start melting. This one (not mine) was still firmly attached to the motor and when the owner took it of, it wa

  • Hi all. Today, after oil change, I got the new engine cover. It is entirely out plastic with some insulation.

I guess it depends from car to car and also on your driving style.

Well ... mine is checked, removed and cleaned in a regular basis, and for the time being it is as good as new, fixing points are still tight enough to keep the cover in place avoiding any contact on the turbo blanket side, so either the dealer call me with the replacement part in his hand or I will keep it where it is.

But I am very curious about that message on the infotainment screen ... In my case, I haven't seen yet that message. Do you know in the basis of what the message is sent to the system?

Don't know on that basis messages are sent to the car. As far as I know all  VAG TSI 245 KM cars are affected. In my case I also got a letter from the Skoda importer.

Probably the 190 300 and 310 horsepower engines too. The cover is the same, 300/310 I think has a different turbo, but the location is the same too.

I've just had mine removed and it looks terrible without it. Garage advised recall is complete and I'll never be getting another engine cover for it as it's complete. If there was another one coming in the future it wouldn't have been complete. I wasn't happy but the receptionist wasn't having any of it and said not to trust what you read on your infotainment...

Pretty bad service if I'm honest.

That's kind of  weird. My dealer said new covers should start coming in around June and I would get one. But in reality how often do you even look at it?

It looks weird but I don't really care about that, it's more all that stuff exposed on the top. And will it heat the bonet up now when it gets hot?

I got the message on the screen as well now.

Still running the car in and only tend to use at weekends.

Think I'll just check weekly and put off removing the cover until dealers have stock or I feel it's become loose.

@liveseytowers   The receptionist you spoke to maybe thinks it was an April Fools message that car owners received or that Skoda are lying to owners that paid for vehicles with an engine cover and that they will be obliged to come up with a new one.

VW Group including Skoda have had to admit dishonesty in the past with products they sold and they can not be caught lying or cheating again.

Wow I actually got a letter from Skoda as well as the on screen message.

Letter states " A new version of the engine cover is not yet available. As soon as the new version is available your Skoda authorised repairer will contact you in order to refit the new version of the engine compartment cover."

Hope that reassures those who have had them removed already.

Anyone already seen new cars delivered with a new cover? Looking for the article number of the replacement one, guess they are not delivery new cars without a cover?

  • 1 month later...

Hi guys,

Do you have any updates on the subject? Checking messages seems that the replacement part was expected to be available, as per @zetzet, this month, but I am afraid that forecast date is just science fiction.

In my case, and as I advanced to my dealer, I'm still driving the car with the cover on with proper follow-up and no issues, even with very high temperatures here in the south of France.

New cars are being delivered without covers.  So Skoda / VW the biggest or 2nd biggest car manufacturer in the world that has delays because of chips can not use the spare time that they have to design and manufacture or have manufactured with haste the revised parts.

Wow ... lucky the ones that are keeping the cover and unlucky the ones that are getting new cars without it, that fact is completely unacceptable. Cover is not for the aesthetic, it has his purpose. Without it and without a from time to time cleaning I do not want to imagine how filthy the cylinder head cover could get ... and all its hardware: PCV, injectors, intake, gaskets ... bad, very bad.

You think the engine cover keeps the engine completely clean? I'm sure it doesn't. :) But I agree with you engine bay doesn't look nice without it.

I'm sure it will be cleaner with the cover on than without it... :)

It will be cleaner. But it won't be clean. 😁 And most certainly engine will not die without it.

is there any sign of new engine covers coming out?

No

So nobody here knows anything because they do not work for Skoda or read a news article / press release or on Social Media.

There could be new Engine Covers sitting in China / South Korea or anyplace that can produce them dead cheap but no containers / transport is available,

or

VW Management Board have said, stuff those stupid customers we have better things to spend money on right now like Advertising New Green Electric cars and fighting Legal Battles over past cheating and lying about emissions.

Only time will tell, or maybe owners demanding that they can use parts on their cars that they bought and paid for and if they are faulty they want replacements.

Ask these.  They want your customer service to be a good one. Ask at your Dealership & in writing when they intend making your car as it should be and as designed.

Anyone got an update on getting finally a replacement version?

All i can say is that my vRS, delivered last week, has no cover. I wonder what all those lovely electronics will look like after a winter's use...?

I had a ping pong conversation via email with my local dealer and the answer was quite clear: we do not have it and we do not have a forecast date for the replacement to arrive. I am afraid that they are not putting the same effort with the replacement that the effort they put to launch the recall campaign so it's going to be loooong waiting time.
