WHAT MAKE OF OIL TO USE

Featured Replies

Hi all i just acquired a skoda fabia ambiente 1.2 estate this 2006 this week. its done 146.000 miles and i want to know what make of oil is best for these VW engines that are in them. i keep seeing numbers given and codes and this and that. 504 503 507 and god knows what but what make do i use.? 😠😠 whoever had the car before me had it serviced quite regularly and its noted in the service schedule. but these lazy mechanics never put what make of oil they used at the time.😠😠 plus before i service it myself which won.t be just yet i need to know what i can put in it to top up with for the time being as its a bit low on the dip.😕 i was using mannol long life 504 5w30 for my last skoda fabia then i was told no no no no its the wrong oil to use. 😠😬😲so what do i do so i thought i.ll ask briskoda members. and see what they say. 😐

It's a naturally aspirated low performance petrol engine, anything short of chip fat will be ok!

Joking aside, it really isn't important, buy it cheap, change it often is the best strategy.

5w/40 is what I put in the car (1.2 BME, on 63k miles). It just works, was 10w/40 Mobil stuff before and no nuns exploded nor did any kittens get massacred. Quantum stuff is what I used at the service there, but I don't think the make is important really, as long as it works then that's what matters. Both times these oils were cheap enough.

If you want to play it safe, 5w/40 or 10w/40, IMO/IME.

Use Fuchs 502 00 rated, 5w40.

Mainly because of the childishly amusing mame.

Can't read that with a straight face... :D

I use Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 which is a 502 specification in my 1.4 BBZ. Decent oil to keep my car running smoothly at 111,000 miles.

I change it twice a year on average and it rarely uses any in between services.

Thanks to all those replies thats a big help. so mannol in my other car wasn.t incorrect then as none of you has mentioned it wasn.t. ?  quantum oil well i.m sure thats the one i used in a skoda some10 years ago now.  i have also used comma in my others cars years ago. astra and corsa etc. and duckhams aswell. its more the mixing of oils really that i was concerned about and its awkward when you don.t know whats in the car to begin with. obviously when i have serviced it i can keep a proper eye on it. fuchs lol yeah thats a name conjur with lol 😂😂😂😂

I used Mannol in both our of cars...   So no issues with that.

so in my other fabia classic 2004 1.2 which had to be scrapped. can anyone help me with that mystery it just simply would not start after it had been running sweet. one day the temp icon flashed and i found hardly owt in the exp tank. i topped it up but then not long after that it simply seized up. it had done 88.000 miles but i.m sure it had had problems when with the previous owners. i was the 7th keeper of it.  the mechanic who tried to fix it told me the valves had bent on it.  and i had put wrong oil in it mannol 5w30 504 for VWs. and it is a VW engine is it not in fabia.s ?  very very odd and i still definately want to find out why it happened.

brill cheers 😉 i do know its good oil cos its not cheap and not extremely dear and it is used by many for VWs and audi.s and BMWs. so it has to be good stuff eh. i have some left so i may top this one up with that until i can get round to servicing it properly.  😊

Cars are a nightmare these days even old ones from the turn of the millenium its hard to work on them. you have to have all this computer crap to re.set them again etc. batteries can.t just be taken off anymore and any battery put back on it as a lot of cars are coded etc and need a specific battery replacement.  and they certainly aren.t made to last either like 60s 70s and 80s cars were. throw away cars now a lot are.

As Sepulchrave already told you in your other thread, the timing probably slipped.

Many of us appreciate you for that, I'd like to think the majority do.

Yes mate you did i did read it and i can say it seems to skid twice at traffic lights when i went into first gear so i bet thats what caused it. plus i reckon it had had some sort of engine reconditioning aswell as i was the 7th owner of the car.  yes i knoe you tell it how it is and best way be. 👍👍👌😊
