Which Spacers for my 280

Hi all, thought I'd pop this here as well ad the wheel forum as it'll prob get more views here.

 

I'm looking to get some hubcentric spacers on my Superb 280. It's on the 19" Vegas and I just want them to be more flush with the arches. 

 

I've seen bolt on spacers and bolt through spacers. Like the idea of the bolt ons as its slightly more permanent and don't have to worry about them coming off when the wheel comes off etc. 

 

Can't seem to find them in thicknesses less than 20mm, I think I'll need between 10-15mm per side so looking for recommendations on thickness, brand and even pics if you have the same setup would be really helpful.

U can go up to 20mm, although I find 20 to b a bit aggressive, nice stance though.

 

I have hub-centric spacers, front & rear.

15mm front, 10mm rear. 

 

I used to have 15mm on the rear before, but after changing my tyres from 235/40 to 245/40, the rear would rub slightly, on full compression.

 

I've got the factory Trinity 19s, which have the same specs as the Vega 19s.

Mine is lowered 25mm.

Technically, yes, spacing the wheel out will put more load on the wheel bearing compared to when the wheel is in the stock position. 
 

Practically speaking though, there will be a lot of margin in the wheel bearing load capacity that it is unlikely to have much effect on bearing life, especially given the range of wheels and tyres that can be fitted normally.

 

I supposed those that have fitted spacers will just accept it if they get early bearing wear, but that just might mean 50k miles instead of 80k miles.

The difference 20mm would make is negligible and no more than the car being fully loaded.

 

now if you were to put a stupidly large spacer or stack spacers you’d start putting a lot of pressure on the bearings but this kind of amount wouldn’t cause any issues.

Which brand of spacers did you get? Longer bolts too I expect?

Yes, that's my setup in the pics.

 

My apologies, mine is actually 12mm at the front, not 15mm.

 

I had 15mm at the rear before.

Hence I now have 12/10, with 245 wide tyres.

Before I had 12/15 when I had 235 tyres.

 

U will definitely need longer bolts.  They usually come supplied with longer bolts.

 

I've got bloxsport spacers up the front and H&R spacers at the rear.

Well, it won’t be exactly like a fully-loaded car, because by adding these, there will be always be higher compression on the top of the bearing. 

Bimec black hub centrics.  15 & 12mm.  £130 I think it was

I run 15mm on the back and 12mm on the front

Just enough to bring it outboard but nothing stupid...

Is that lowered? Trying to decide whether to lower my Passat. Arch gaps are a fair bit bigger than that.

Here is a Passat lowered on the Eibach Pro-kit springs.

The Superb uses the exact same springs.

Drop is approx 20-25mm if u have DCC.

It's the same springs I have.

No.  That's stock ride height for sportline.  I don't want to mess any more with the factory geometry.

Fitted a fat (25mm) rear ARB & planning some KONI dampers sometime but springs getting left alone

Both of mine. lowered on H&R with koni special actives and 12mm all round H&R spacers. White one diesel then. Traded for red 272

Somewhat related to the discussion so far, I am interested in lowering but don't want to ruin the ride. Currently have a whiteline rear bar fitted which solves most of the lack of turn in and understeer. However there is still an amount of unwanted transfer under transition. On my old car that was solved enough with springs. That was a torsion bar rear so roll bar options were limited. I have kept the stock roll bar so that's an option to go back to.

 

Short version: is a stiffer roll bar too stiff with lowering springs (prokit probably)? Or, does a stiffer roll bar match well with lowering springs? Got special actives fitted if that makes a difference.

I've got a stiffer/thicker rear swaybar, 25.4mm, and it works very well with the lowered springs (Eibach Pro-kit).

As ever, very helpful. Many thanks. I'll be ordering some prokit springs then. Suspensions in need of a rebuild as the garage who fitted the shock did a hash job. New bump stops/top mounts all round!

Probably because they didn't have guinea pig cars to try them on. Spec looks right for the superb.

how do you know the bolts/thread will fit?

Check on sites like wheel-size. From memory those look right. (Mostly) all wheel bolts on the mqb platform are the same.
