Fabia MK3 minor crash fuel cutoff? or ECU?

Featured Replies

Hello dear VAG friends, few hours ago my gf hit an animal, the damage is quite low from what I've seen over the years but I still need some help. After the hit the engine was fully working, but once we shut it off it wouldn't start. Starter in fully working condition and it feels like car wants to start, but it sounds like fuel is being cut off. There are no leaks or anything, the damage didn't touch internal parts which could impact the engine work. My question is mainly is there such thing as fuel cutoff for 2015 Fabia, or the data goes straight to ECU and only error code cleaning can help? I am adding the picture of the damage

From the amount of blood there is no point asking how the animal fared!

You should not really be contemplating driving that any further than to a position where it will not endanger other traffic.

What warning lights does the dashboard show?

My Yeti had a tiny front shunt by comparison to yours but it deployed the driver and passenger airbags but the engine still started and ran.

As yours was running I suspect its a damaged crankshaft or camshaft position sensor and the ECU does not see that the engine is cranking and does not fuel the injectors, that or an immobiliser problem, perhaps try it with another key?

Thank you for your input, sir. Uploaded additional picture of whats the situation under the hood. I also tried 2nd key, I did OBD scan and cleared the codes but that didn't help either, scan showed this results:

It may be worth checking the under bonnet fuses, and the supply to that fuse box.

Picture below is from the handbook for a Fabia 2015 Mk3

A word of warning about the under bonnet fuse box diagram, in the copy of the Owner's Manual we have and as John has put up, in my wife's 2015 right hand drive model at least the diagram was different to what was in her car so check the fuse is for what the Manual says it.

I am a big fan of reading and referring to Driver's Handbook /Owners Manual but they can have error and omissions and translation errors perhaps.

As an example the green arrow is pointing at the fuse for the windscreen wipers in my wife's car.

Some VW Group cars have a pyrotechnic device that blows one of the main fuses, the crash sensor does that, to make the car as safe as possible following an impact - but for that to be an issue I’d expect an event to get logged somewhere.

Certainly Audi B8s have that feature so I’d think lots others will have it, though it is seldom brought up in these forums.

In addition to the intake plenum breakage, there looks to be significant damage to items behind the nearside headlight - is that the battery/main fuse panel?

Yes, but battery is fine, there is ignition, radio works fine too lol, I will check tomorrow fuses with tester

I assume fuses are fine, since there was a beeping when connected with voltage tester

Was that a Continuity bleep from testing each fuse when removed from the fuse box?

I didn't remove fuses, I tested the small metal part on the top part of the fuse, And yes, it was continuous bleep. Although, there was some blood inside.

If I have misunderstood you just ignore me.  If you are doing a voltage test on the fuse you need to check both sides of the fuse, otherwise you could be just checking the 'live' supply side and not that the fuse transfers this to the other side (I hope that makes sense).

Thats a good point, didn't know that, thank you sir

I know it takes longer but personally I would take out the fuses and test them individually one at a time, that way you should not make the mistake of putting them back in the wrong location which can be easy to do if there are gaps or more than one fuse removed at once.

I would ask give them a visual inspection and clean them as required, electrical contact cleaner for blades at least.  Just taking them out and putting them back in is a type of quick crude cleaning with the grip of contact.

Also taking the time to fully check and clean each fuse can perhaps say you time later if you spend time checking other items to have to come back to find it is a faulty fuse or fuse connection.
