Licence plate bulb holder part no.s

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I need to replace one of my number plate bulb holders due to a corrosion issue. On checking the existing part numbers I get the following numbers from the unit. Can anyone tell me if these are different parts and need to be ordered independently or if I buy one of them I get the whole unit? Pics on sites like skoda-shop and Horton's are not that clear. I've attached a couple of photos of the part in question. Also need to recode for LEDs, but I notice there are some great guides on here for that 👌🏻😁.

Many thanks y'all 😊

5N0943021B 1K9943021D will be what's fitted.  The two part numbers just written are interchangeable as VAG share parts amongst the group.

They should be £17.12 inc VAT at official prices, and they take a bog standard W5W bulb.

I guess you were talking about adding your own LED's, for W5W bulb type?

Choice number 2 is to go directly to LED, and have the advantage of these that are build for the task, they fire down the beam nicely onto the plate.

Either solution would both need coding to the car, and save you faffing about with so called CANbus friend W5W LED bulbs

Google 3AF 943 021 A (may have to remove the spaces) and see what better prices you can get.

Thank you, that's really useful. I already had some W5W size LEDs that said they would be error free but of course were not. Good bulbs other than that. I was hoping to save a few bob by just replacing the original unit like for like, seeing as recoding is required no matter what. Is there any advantage with the dedicated LED units and can the LEDs be replaced (not that they ever will of course!).

Not happy with the prices I've found, seem ridiculous for something relatively simple.

Cheers

I was lucky a few years ago when I got mine, of course cheaper times.

If you are happy with the light from your current W5W LED's (can be coded to get rid of the warning)
You can of course just locate a basic holder and fit.

I did some googling earlier, did find some of these around at more sensible prices, but of course shipping needed to be added.
The light from the factory LED's did look better IMHO as they aimed down just right.  You would not really be pulling apart to replace, should last for years.

EDIT: If you check this link out, it does show this line of text - "LED lighting for your number plate as a replacement only for the 5N0 943 021 B"

And they label the part number as 000 052 110 - this is another label for the LED units.

VAG and their part labelling is often like this.

UK Supplier?  £12 each

Looks like Horton is my best bet then, even if Skoda-parts are slightly cheaper, rather buy from UK supplier to be honest.  So confusing there are interchangeable part numbers, and still a bit concerned that 3AF 943 021 A is the only one that says it is compatible with Skoda mk3 but that part doesn't even come up on Horton, so go figure.

Skoda-parts.com

€13.41 euros (2 x 000 052 110 "LED Number Plate Lights Skoda)
€14.52 euros delivery
€27.93 euros total

€31.88 euros (2 x 3AF 943 021 A "Number Plate Light LED China")
€14.52 euros delivery
€46.40 euros total

The Skoda Shop (Horton)

£24.00 (2 x 000 052 110 "LED licence plate light)
£4.95 delivery
£28.95 total

I happened to be on a Skoda Ireland supplier where I've bought mud flaps from before and they list this data-plug.  Any likelihood this will be able to recode the LEDs? 🤞

I would go with Horton, should be painless process.

I think your dataplug is as much use as a chocolate fireguard, it's more of a simple data logger for how you are driving, not sure if it does much more than that (didn't research too deeply, so could be wrong)

Now as for coding in the LED lamps, it would appear you are in luck, fabdavrav is just around the corner in Nairn.

Taken from the list here: List of VCDS owners

@fabdavrav Tagged you in this message as your VCDS services might be required.

p.s. It might be a good idea to "batch up" any other VCDS coding changes you may have in mind too for your car, if there's some things you would like adjusting.

I'll have to update the laptop as that has the VCDS on it & I only use it for that!....

Wow, almost a year has passed and I finally got round to fixing my number plate LEDs.  Bought a set of the Skoda original 000 052 110 units from Ebay for £20 in May and retrofitted them this afternoon.  Everything works perfectly and no VAG error 😁.  However rather than recode them (might be a mistake!) I went down the "resistors in parallel" road as I needed to do a little wiring anyway due to the hatchet job Arnold Clark had made of one of my original units.  Question is, I'm now very aware of the heat these resistors can produce and you're supposed to screw them to the internal bodywork away from anything 'meltable'.

Does anyone know where and how they could be attached to, or know an alternative solution? Idiot I am should have thought about that and done a wee trip to Nairn instead @fabdavrav .  I've attached some pics of the wiring used, but getting a picture of the internals was nigh on impossible.  Easier to take the rear door internal trim off as if I was accessing the wiper motor to screw them I'm guessing?
