Brake disc size

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

New Owner here :)

I have a 2018 Mk3.5 octavia VRS, and wondering what size the front and rear discs are, (without taking the wheels off and measuring them haha)

Any advise on the best way to find this out and any recommended brands to go for or avoid (standard)?

Thanks

If it's an Octavia MK3 facelift petrol 245HP VRS, it's 340x30mm front and 310x22mm rear.

If it's an Octavia MK3 facelift diesel 184HP VRS, it's 312x25mm front and 272x10mm rear.

If it's an Octavia MK3 pre-facelift VRS petrol or diesel, it's 340x30mm front and 272x10mm rear.

Thanks, I guess i have the only one you didnt list haha, its a 230 Petrol facelift haha, so would i be correct in thinking its 340x30mm front and 272x10mm rear?

The facelift model came out in 2017 and has split front headlights.

The Octavia MK3 petrol VRS 230HP came out in 2015, so is pre-facelift.

All of the Octavia MK3 petrol VRS cars have 340x30mm front discs.

On the Octavia MK3 VRS it's easy to tell what size the rear discs are because the ventilated rear discs are 310x22mm and the solid rear discs are 272x10mm.

Thanks for the information, it was build in Jan 2018 and has the split headlights and is a CHHA, so its a 230 :)

So are the rear discs ventilated or solid?

Jurid on autodoc lists the 230HP model as having solid rear discs.

Build code 1KT means 272x10mm solid rear discs.

Build code 1KW means 310x22mm ventilated rear discs.

If anyone want to check their disk  size  without taking the wheels off you can measure them with a pair of large divider's through the wheel spokes.

No dividers just clamp 2 bits off metal with mole grips so they rest on the disk edge

Metal coat hanger bent to measure discs.

I've just bought EBC plain discs with black coating and yellow stuff pads.

Hopefully fitting over Easter.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just as I mentioned EBC brakes, I fitted them over this weekend.

Went for plain discs and yellow stuff pads. I did want drilled, or slotted for a sportier look, but my brother has cracked discs like this before, so thought I'd just stick with plains.

But initial impression is they are quite good, initial bite seems very impressive from cold.

My only quibble is, the rear discs were all black and as you bed them in, the surfaces go silver and leaves a black hub center and outtet edge.

The fronts were their 'gen 2' discs which are only black on the hub and silver only the outer edge, but I wanted black! I could have phoned up and swapped them, but instead I just sprayed them black, with some heat resistance paint.

Hopefully it lasts a while!

I also sprayed the rear disc guards wit h galv spray, then black, as they were a bit rusty.
