Infotainment system 😱

Featured Replies

It’s been about a month now since we bought our Karoq and the infotainment system is driving me mad. Perhaps it’s just ‘operative error’ having come from Land Rover that had a basic, yet workable system.

My main issues

- Satnav; why does every postcode location I input appear as ‘Off-road’ followed by a series of two numbers, possibly map references? Why will it not show the road name or location I’m aiming for? I’ve no idea if the location I’ve input is right or not?
- Phone; I’ve linked my mobile, all my contacts have been transferred in ok. However if I select one, or there’s an incoming call, I cannot hear them or vice versa. I’ve toggled the hold call/microphone options, but still nothing.
I’m sorry if these are such basic issues but I’ve looked in the handbook, been into the menu/settings screens but cannot find any solutions to either problem and quite frankly it’s making this aspect of Skoda ownership a nightmare.

Re satnav: a typical residential post code covers quite a wide area, so the satnav is just pinpointing its centre. I've found entering the address I want in simple English (120 Badminton Road Stafford for example) will take me to my required destination. (Note the quoted address is fictitious so don't expect it to work :) )

I have never had to make or receive a call in my car, so can't help you on answering a call. But I think other threads have mentioned a button you push to accept a call.

Regarding the telephone volume, have you tried turning the volume knob on the infotainment system?

With my Skoda:-

To change the call volume you do it while you are having a call.

To change the ring volume you do it while someone is calling you.

And so on.

Thanks. AG Falco

This. That’s how it works with mine too 👍🏻

Thanks CJJE, I have since found an older thread about this and it seems that VAG are aware of this but as we’re the only country that uses postcodes they’ll not likely update the way the satnav system works - it’ll highlight the centre of area accompanied by map co-ordinates. Others suggest, as you have, that it’s a case of inputting the address long-hand and if it’s a POI the system should recognise it. Very disappointing. Others use linked Google maps or similar such as Waze, which is fine if you’re fully tech-savvy. Sadly we’re not all youngsters 😏

Thank you @ RCC49, AGFalco, Modders

Must confess I’d not given thought to volume control - if we’ve had the radio on and Significant Other has made the call we’ve left the volume as is, the outgoing (or incoming) ring-tone has been at the same level. In the circumstances we’d have expected to have heard the callers voice (or vice-versa).
Perhaps have another look tomorrow just to see if we need to adjust the call volume although can’t see that if the ring-tones ok why we’d not hear voices?

The volume control seems to be working like it does for traffic announcements and sat nav guidance, and preserves the chosen volume for each application, regardless of the radio or media volume. Once it's been set for each application that is.

With regard to the phone system I had understood that you should be able to accept and end a call by pushing the silver roller switch on the right hand side of the steering wheel. I can do neither with my late 2022 SEL. Should this work?

.

Assuming cars with SatNag have CarPlay, forget inbuilt systems and just use Google Maps.  I’ve used it all around the planet and it’s generally spot on and a lot less hassle.  👍

Car went back into the dealers last week as I was getting an error message up along the lines of “SOS call workshop” . That’s been resolved🤞I understand by way of a software update which has cleared the message and rectified a few other minor satnav and phone problems.

However, I am still getting a message along the lines of data transfer currently set to ‘use my position’ and I can find out what that setting entails and how I can change it in the control centre.

How?

I suspect this is ‘operator error’, unrelated to the other message, but simply cannot see how to sort it.

Thank you

Yes it is unrelated, it's a setting in the menu, can't recall exactly where though

Thought it’d be unrelated, hopefully someone else will be along and enlighten me/us. Thanks any way.

I had a Land Rover before the Karoq and although the infotainment system in that was fairly simplistic, it did what it was supposed to without all the faffing about.

Ok, here's another thing or is it just me. I have found that music or radio playing isn't muted when the Satnav is giving directions or other info. Other cars I have had mute the music automatically so the Satnav announcements can be easily heard. Or is there a setting in the menu for this?

How long ago was that? People demand more functionality these days - some manufacturers are better than others at implementing it.

Try one of todays Land Rovers and see how you get on. 🤣

Yes there is a setting for it. I cannot remember if it is the Sat Nav Settings or Media Setting (only had my Karoq less than a week)  but there are options to lower the media volume during Sat Nav announcements.

Funnily I was scrolling through the menu system today and came across the link. The wording was rather vague but now you have mentioned this I shall move the slider to virtually 'off' and see if it does indeed mute radio/music when a Satnav announcement is made.

Checked today and indeed the media player does mute when there are navigation announcements. Thanks for this!
