Noise from both LHS (? top mount area) and steering motor

Featured Replies

I’ve had pretty much the same noise since I’ve owned it, a knocking sound coming from the front-left side whenever going over uneven road or basically anything that causes the car to bounce side to side even slightly, sometimes it’s not as noticeable, other times it’s VERY noticeable.

I think the only reason I haven’t done anything about it is because the car spends 90% of its life on the motorway so it’s not a constant annoyance.

Worst case is I splurge on a new pair of front shocks and top mounts, pretty sure that’s the root cause of it from what many people have said.

Our was previously investigated, but the noise came and went, but appears to be more evident with the onset of the warmer weather.    The dealer took another look earlier and are now we fitt

Have they not replaced the shocks? Surly an aftermarket set won’t have the same

Issue?

Nah nothing has been replaced just kept lubricating the suspension. I have had so many electrical issues with it that this wasn’t a priority. Iv never been keen on the car tbh. Always wanted a Karoq but have never got on with mine or the many Karoq courtesy cars that I have had. I thought I’d get used to it but it’s just not for me hence now looking for a replacement.

I can force mine to do it now. If I go over a speed bump while braking it makes the noise. If I’m not then it doesn’t ? It has done it on uneven roads too. Usually when Turing and possible with a little brake on.

Ours is back doing it. I asked for the struts to be regreased when it went in for service in August - the service advisor reacted with shock that I would assume they would have time to do it and told me I;d need to book it in.

When I picked the car up, he cheerfully told me they'd done it. It did seem briefly better but was soon back to knocking again.

As mentioned previously, it's mainly noticeable on our car when there's more than two people in it, which is rare. We also don't use the car much, and I really can't be bothered pursuing it. I'll mention it if it goes in again, but the car is out of its main warranty now and is covered by All iN, so the dealers, the keenest I've ever dealt with to screw money out of me, will no doubt be looking to extract payment from me.

Mines going back in Thursday. I can reliably replicate it now. Which I couldn’t before. So hopefully it’ll get sorted.

I had 4 people in my car on Saturday but never heard the noise. Like I say. Seems to be in these scenarios:

Braking while going over bumps, especially going downhill

Pulling out of a junction if it’s on a hill and turning, left or right.

Lightly braking and going over rough ground or if it makes the car bounce up and down.

The sound to me sounds like the bump stops hitting. Like the springs are doing nothing or the shocks are kaput. However I can go over bumps and not be braking and hear nothing. Very odd

The garage I got it from are really good to be fair. They get me in and don’t fob me off. Give me a loan car and try to get it sorted as soon as they can. Can’t fault them for that.

Sounds like mine. It also does it when i apply the brakes as im slowing down over uneven roads. Mine is awful now again and passengers comment on it. The lubricant works for about 2-3 weeks but i got fedup of applying it. Iv had the car two years nearly and iv started looking at other cars. It’s been in so many times to the garage it’s embarrassing. It’s not a car I would buy again.

Managed to get mine on video. Sound like yours?

just wanted to add some further info to this. the car went back again. showed the noise to the mechanic. He lubricated the lower control arm rubbers and a few other rubber parts under the car and the noise went away.........for about 4 hours. then it went away a few days later when it was banging it down with rain. So I'm guessing I have a dry bush or 2. good job its constantly raining

All the lubrication used to do was make the noise go away for a little while for me. I forgot to update - mine went in for an MOT and failed on the passenger shock absorber. I always suspected the shock absorber and the noise has now gone since it was changed.

Did they replace top mount and bump stop too, I always lube the shaft and bump stop as it can stick and cause noises.

No they only replaced the shock absorber. I’d had the top mount replaced when i first had it as i suspected that it was faulty but it wasn’t. It’s always been the shock absorber on mine. The other side isn’t much better but they wouldn’t change that as it hadn’t full on failed.
