I just noticed when looking at picture that the available power was cut this morning at minus 5C degrees.  Must check later if it is to 80%.   Then tomorrow at what temperature it goes back to 100% or how many miles.  Last winter when I noticed I had gone about 25 miles until 100% returned and maybe minus 3C.      Left hand guage.

Was it charging overnight?

Li-on prefers around 10-30c, lower = worse performance, higher = more degradation.

No it was not charged and was not preconditioned this morning.

Just been out at minus 3*oC but it was showing 100% power available. First reduction is -5 i think.

Which makes no difference really to just driving and accelerating in speed limits.

Edinburgh airport park and ride as crap as always.  I had to reset 4 chargers before getting one to start and not lock me in without starting.   I tried pressing Guest and not Member on the 4th charger and it came up as 85 pence a kWh so canceled that.  Used ElectroVerse card and charging at 58 pence at a pathetic speed from charger I am on.  Helped 2 drivers with Polestar hire cars get charging.    They need to hand back cars at 80%.      End bay I got on never repainted so that the born stupid might noticed they are blocking a charger bay.       66 minutes to get this little energy.   But need it to get maybe only 90 miles.   £14.00.    I will need to maybe do a short expensive charge before going on a cheap charger later today.

90 miles mostly in peeing down rain and not much above freezing. 16 miles range showed as I stopped to charge.  3 degrees C now at Stirling and the 3 rapids were occupied and I went on the 4th and got a good speed.  40 mins charging will be enough even if any hold ups.  I could just of put enough in to get to Tesla Superchargers Perth and charge and save maybe £1.50 but I will just sook up this extra expense.

What are the two semi-circles that go up to 100%? (Yellow segments on the left, white segments on the right)

I believe the left is power meter. The needle is current power. The available power (yellow bars) are not all lit up, showing reduced max available discharge power.

I am guessing white segments on the right are battery meter, it is 7/8 charged?

All EV need to display available power because as battery changes in temperature and state of charge, it also changes both available discharge power and re-gen power. The BMS (battery management system) works out safe maximum based on a lot of parameters.

-5*oC is when the Power Meter drops to reduced available.

It stayed at reduced until the Temperature got to -3*oC.

Acceleration up to 70 mph. and a bit of acceleration is still available from 70 mph even when showing 75 or 80% power available.

-3*oC just now and when i go out later i will be watching for it to drop from 100% if the temperature drops after dark.

Charging at home tonight and i will look in the morning before Pre Conditioning the interior and see if any affect on the battery.

Preconditioning somehow works far better heating interior, de-icing rear screen and putting on seat heating & de-ices the front screen quicker than if i get in and turn on and switch on fast De-Ice / De-Steam the front screen.

5 minutes done on remote start and all clear glass.

If i get in the car it can be 10 minutes on me setting it.  Obviously i am in breathing.

Don't CCS plugs disconnect when charging completes? You could just remove the cable and plug in?

  • Author

Only if the driver allows them to be removed while their car is locked. Different cars different ways.  Most Merc, Jag, BMW, Porsche, Tesla or Audi that seem to think parked and no longer charging are locked in.  Kia Niro has a button near the door to choose locked in or not at the end of charging. PS.  Golfers seem to like to leave cars charging while having a 5 mile walk and maybe something to eat and not just get the cable out or usd a AC tethered charger.

Edited by Ootohere

Top tip then, ID cars allow it. Probably means skoda and Audi Q4 also allow it.

  • Author

Only if the Q4 driver has it set that the charger is not locked in even after charging has finished if the car is locked.

One regularly blocked the only working Rapid charger local to me and would leave the car a whole day or overnight and til late on in the day.

Washing on and takes 38 minutes.  Same time as it would take to charge.  Handy if more charging hubs had 24 hour wash and dryers at them.
