Octavia MK3 - very little airflow from vents

Featured Replies

My MK3 Octavia is not blowing much air through the air vents (even with fans on full blast). I've pressed and the AC and front blower button simultaneously and I can hear the air moving between the different vents.

Where should I start looking? It almost seems like there's something blocking the air flow.

Cheers :)

Try this first.

Have done this, made no different unfortunately 😞

Have you checked the pollen filter and air entry prior to it?

Is the fan actually blowing (as oppose to the motor spinning, but not the impeller)?

When mine accidently started to blow weakly (and sometimes not blowing at all) I made reset, played with fan speeds, cleaned motor...
All my actions helped just for few weeks. In the end replaced blower motor and problem was gone.

Mk3 Octy (and all VAG MQB cars) is well-known for it's weak blower motor- brushes worn out too fast.
For those who read in Russian, there're plenty of posts about this issue.
Solution is to replace motor or "deconstruct old one to bone" and go to shops to find appropriate brushes.

I took the old cabin filter out and suddenly it started working. Gave the filter a good whack against a wall and a dust out and it works a lot better. Seeing as it seemed to be the filter (at this time anyway) I've bought a replacement filter and installed it today. Nice cold air coming from the vents again now 😁

The pollen filter is supposed to be changed at certain service intervals (IIRC, 3 years?) Despite my using Skoda Dealer workshops for at least the 1st 5 years servicing, they never even checked it!

Better to just change it yourself and inform whoever is carrying out servicing that it's not required - same goes for engine air filter.
