Volume keeps turning up??

Featured Replies

Car went in for an intermittent CEL (which went off the day before the visit), I mentioned the volume and showed the video, they said they’ll look into it, came back to collect car to be told there’s nothing wrong, nothing stored and charged £110 for a diagnostic fee. Fuming

Hello, I removed the connection cable socket of the multimedia sound touch bar. I only control the sound from the steering wheel.

Unbelievable.

Started with the volume slider turning up on its own. Now the infotainment system today has been turning on and off and on whilst car is parked and locked.

Had screen replaced to solve this issue (finally). Costly stuff without warranty, but very well known problem, so I'd expect Skoda to provide parts for free.

The issue mine has is when i turn on the AC on hot days after a while it registers interaction with the Home button, just casually driving along and it goes to the menu when you long-press the home button, and it gets stuck like there's a finger permanently on the home button, to the point where the menu button and the volume slider don't work at all and i have to reset the infotainment by long-pressing the power button, then it just magically goes away.

Must have something to do with compression and expansion of the plastics or the screen itself when the temperatures fluctuate too fast from the AC.

Nothing happened removing the battery… same issues, impossible to use the infotainment.

Didn’t work for me either. I’ve reset to all factory settings and finally think I have a temp solution where it won’t be on and off all night and danger of overheating. Not ideal in any way, saves disconnecting the battery all night though.
Strange there are more reports recently, could it be the latest app software update that’s kicked these issues off? If anyone finds a reliable long term solution please update. Will be trying to get a fix on the warranty but if it’s firmware I’ll have to pay out 😢

I also had the same problem with my car. The police asked me in the middle of the night to turn off the car stereo.

Luckily for me, they also drive Octavias, so they know it's not my fault. But how do I explain it to the neighbors?

It was so embarrassing. I went to the dealership and got the firmware updated and the ECU reset.

There are no visible changes in the data on the display; the version is still 1941.

Hopefully, it will work.

Full infotainment system replacement for me. Awaiting the unit as it’s on back order. Software was already 1941, seems as though the unit overheats and then just does what it wants. Poor really, they should recall affected models and replace if it’s this widespread.

I own 2022 Octavia MK4. I am facing this issue from November 2023. Initially it is a rare occurrence and later a month, the infotainment restarts automatically and play radio automatically. Finally the dealer replaced infotainment controller. Then I did not see the issue for 6 months. The issue surfaced again from mid of July. I suspect the problem in touch bar under the screen. It is getting faulty signals. Planning to contact dealer next week. The attached video taken during the problem.

Latest developments:

The car stereo sound has again started to increase uncontrollably, without the ability to mute it. However, I noticed that if I turn off the stereo with the button, the Bluetooth communication, AC, and parking sensors work normally. Only radio broadcasting is powered off.

After a few hours parked in the sun, a light show began on the instrument panel along with the message “Safe CP” and the display on the stereo showed “Component Protection Active”.

After half an hour in the parking lot, the messages disappeared, but an airbag error appeared, which could not be cleared by turning off the car.

After 10 minutes of driving, I stopped by the roadside, turned the car off and on again, and now everything works without any problems. There are no errors on the display, the stereo volume does not increase, and everything is as it should be.

I have sent an inquiry to the service center and am awaiting a response.

Update to follow.

Where are you based? What are the temperatures over there "in the sun"? Did you have any sort of sunscreen covering your dashboard?

I’m in Croatia, pretty warm this days, dashboard uncovered.

The latest update: a display replacement was arranged at the service a few days ago, and in the meantime, the car infotainment was working great, without any problems, until today when it started to screech again while the car was turned off and parked. I recommend, as a first aid measure, to adjust the climate control to your liking and remove fuse number 30 from the fuse box under the steering wheel. And yes, the car was parked at sunny side of the parking, and temperature outside is about 30C.

Final update,

The display was replaced today at the authorized service center, a large portion of the cost was covered as goodwill, summer continues in full force, so we'll see.

Thanks, I think this is the correct solution, it works for me too.

Skoda service center updated my Octavia infotainment software to the latest one where they claim Skoda understand and fixed this volume increase issue.

The software version is 1969.

Have driven more than 100km after the updated software and could not see the issue. Will update after a month.

Note: Some 8 months ago, I already replaced the control module and the issue did not go away.

This issue started happening again even after software upgrade where Skoda claims it fixed the volume increase issue. Informed dealer and waiting for update from them.

Just an update on this issue. The Skoda service center agrees to replace the display unit. The older version of the display unit is H47 and the newer unit version number is H49.

The display unit is replaced with new one. The new version is H49. Hope it should solve the issue.

@ArunD has this issue been resolved with the new unit? Mine is a H47 unit and has started to show these issues every time I switch the car on, the infotainment is unusable at this point.

Yes had the unit replaced and all working as it should now.

Yes. With H49, the issue is resolved. Its been more than a month now and I have driven 2000km. No issues.

No coding needed and no component protection warning.

Now this is surprising.

Congrats! You saved yourself about 2k.

Hello @mmt ,
Congratulations for your work.

Can you share with the community more details about the source of the new display?

1.Is it brand new, OEM, provided by Skoda as a spare part?

2.Is it from an old car, from a junkyard?

3. Please share a link/URL from that site.

Thank you
