Upgrading/swapping radio to support bluetooth?

Featured Replies

Hello Skoda owners and experts,

I think this may have been asked elsewhere on here before, in that case please redirect me, as I can't quite find it.

I have a 2014 Elegance 140 TSI. It has (allegedly) a Bolero radio.

It has head number 5E0035812A. As far as I can tell it does not support bluetooth. No option is given and in the setup it just says "telephone not available" when I press the greyed-out bluetooth button. The seller told me it does not support bluetooth at all.

I would like to have bluetooth, and a better solution than the annoying AUX plugin adapters. I want Bluetooth that works with the screen and the steering wheel buttons (back/forth).

What is the easiest way to achieve this? Is it possible to simply switch the head unit in the glove box with one that has bluetooth? will that work? and its hard to find the device part numbers that do support bluetooth, do you guys know which ones has bluetooth in them? Does the screen have to be changed (screen seems to "support" bluetooth options, if they existed)?
I read on some weird foreign forum (google translated) that unit 5E0035819A may have bluetooth. It's not easy to figure out, but I may not understand the system...

Thanks a lot everyone and sorry if this has been posted before!

Every Google search I do says that the 5E0035812A DOES have Bluetooth???

Send pab a vcds extract. He will tell you if you have Bluetooth

I made a mistake: the bluetooth button is not greyed-out.

But the error persist no matter what I do. I tried factory reset and holding both buttons for 10 seconds to reset.

Thank you all

How to make a vcds extract? and who is Pab.
sorry for asking this. Thanks for your time!
Regardless of whether I have bluetooth in there or not, I can't get it to work even for a single second.

Best,

Does your phone connect to the head unit at all?

If it is connecting, but you can't make calls or play audio, make sure that you have call and audio access granted for the Skoda head unit in the Bluetooth settings on your phone.

Nope, 5E0035812A DOES NOT have BT module. The ones that have are other Bolero units - 5E0035819A, 5E0035820A, 5E0035840A, 5E0035842A.

Thanks for answering

Side comment to @BDDK - you either have to add aftermarket BT module (which I do NOT recommend) or replace the infotainment system. Unfortunately, as I don;t know anyone who can hack MIB1 Bolero then my recommendation is to replace both glove box and display units with MIB2 series, e.g. Bolero glove box unit 5Q0035840x (x - A, B or C) and display unit, e.g. 5E0919605H or 5E0919605N. This will give you more features, e.g. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay (requires USB exchange as well), Performance Monitor, Voice Command, support for rear view camera. If you are interested pls contact me on PM.

To speak on the phone, you will also need to add a mic in the dome light area

Only a dealer or independent garage with online access can officially remove Component Protection, but there are also some "hacks" possible.

An independent garage removed the Component protection. But after that Bluetooth become offline. We can not turn Bluetooth on.

They said that after glovebox unit see and recognize the var, understand this var has no Bluetooth originally and close the Bluetooth.

Are there any solution?

You need a Function activation with Odis online

You should send your unit to pab tu have it set correctly
