2022 Kodiaq Blind spot and Lane Assist sensor retrofit

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I am new here and based in Melbourne Australia.

I am in the process of finalising the purchase of a 2022 Kodiaq. It does have most options but due to chip shortage, is not equipped with Lane Assist/Blind Spot monitoring.

Would any of you know if the wiring harness already has the provisions to fit the genuine sensors?

I assume if genuine sensors can be mounted, they then have to be coded so you can enable/disable them through the infotainment system. OR am I thinking about an impossible scenario?

Thanks!

Can't answer your question directly but it can be fitted to a Kodiaq. Whether it's cost effective or not only you can tell.

Companies who do this over here will charge the best part of £1000 I'd have thought for Blind Spot alone.

I'm sure the East Yorkshire retrofit guys would be happy with an all expenses paid trip to Melbourne :D

Or parts only...

:D If I had that much cash to bring those guys down, I would have gone for a brand new.

Thanks! good to know there are parts only option. The Skoda dealer I interact with said that, as long as I/installer does not splice any wires the warranty is valid. But not sure how the coding would affect the warranty unless I get it done at the dealer and pay with my kidney.

None of the wiring will be there for this but it is for sure possible to fit it after the purchase of a car :)

I believe being in north London is a tad too far for you to bring the car though 😛

Thank you @ApertureS

I assumed it would be there because I see some cars on sale from 2022 with blind spot and lane assist. I might be wrong but after seeing that Audis have the blind spot sensors in the same harness as reverse sensors, I thought Skoda may have the harness but not the sensors. Because the harness would have been made as default, just that they didn't have the sensors to plug in.

Now that presents a problem cos the dealership says any chopping and splicing of wires will void warranty. I saw on youtube that if you retrofit, you have to install wiring on the plugs of the front doors (taking vw for example).  https://youtu.be/tp0105g8xt0

:) North London... definitely.... If I win the euro millions lottery :D

No looms on any modern VAG car are made to fit all.

Every single loom is made by VIN or it has only a small choice to pick from depending on variants. But there wont be any loose plugs anywhere sorry, this applies to all VAG cars.

The car you are seeing spec'd with blind spot and lane assist will of been built with that and have its loom made for that from the factory.

There are official methods to chop and join wires that do not void warranty, but they would not cover the retrofitting of additional parts and wires, so yes technically it would void the warranty for any parts that are touched.

Thank you for sharing that @ApertureS I recently used the trailer hook on the car. Noticed the trailer assist function is not active. It leads me to believe you need the blind spot sensors for the trailer assist feature. Would that be right?

Blind spot assist is not part of trailer assist. Trailer assist relies on the rear view camera/ area view system

Not all rear view cameras support trailer assist. All cars with area view can have trailer assist

Thanks @East_Yorkshire_Retrofits I m not very sure if I have the area view. I do have these options alongside 360 view and the photos I've attached.  Does that count?

Area View = 360 view. It's the name for it in the UK, at least.

Ah, thanks! This is still Under warranty, maybe I should reach out to the dealer to check why trailer assist is not working

Probably because it wasn't ordered when the car was first bought? No idea about Down Under, but in the UK you can order tow bar only or tow bar + trailer assist (for more £, of course). I went for the former as I only use it for a bike rack.

Having said that... your first photo above looks like the trailer assist function to me (never had it, so can't be 100% sure - but I don't get that view from my rear camera).

It’s not  trailer assist, it’s just the trailer view 🙂

However as area view is installed, trailer assist is straight forward to enable

I'm the second owner. The first owner bought this off the dealership floor. Its a demonstrator car so it came with almost all options for that trim level.

That first photo is the view when you reverse to get the trailer hitched. The green line pivots when you turn the wheel and helps you back up right to the tow ball

That would suggest that Trailer Assist requires Park Assist...

That sounds good but apprehensive that warranty would be void if I get the coding modified.

Yeah that's the same video I watched. When I pressed park assist, I don't get the trailer view on the instrument cluster but a message similar to ' park assist stopped. Trailer attached ' 🤷‍♂️

I think it's pretty straightforward then - either the function wasn't ordered, or it doesn't work (you have all the prerequisites).

I believe the dealer should be able to look up the options fitted to the car by using the VIN (or if it's the same dealer that first ordered it, their paperwork!).
