Koni Street rebuild.

Featured Replies

I hope it added value, for you at least.

Someone's signature, or photo, or photo with them now "selfie", means nothing to me personally as we are all human I respect more people in the fire service, police, ambulance, nurses, doctors, those that keep the sewers clear, I wouldn't cross the road to meet anyone famous as I don't see the point - if they want to meet or talk to me they can cross the road.

About 20 years ago we had a chap in the club that built big American race engines and he also built up his own Cobra replicas with custom made frames and body, one was at a show and and Shelby signed it, and as you probably know he would only do that if the car meet his standards.  I'm sure the Cobras he ran with methanol or something as my eyes would sting if I was behind one on the open road.  7l Chevvy (not Ford) engines IIRC.

One time we had the four-seater Cobra on our stand that he made, a rear removable panel normally covered the rear high set "occasional" seats, anyone sat in them would be more hurricane swept than wind swept.

  • @D.FYLAKTOS I was going through the files from my wife's old phone and found a few for you.   This is in Wales, you can tell by the clouds, just off one of those roads, September 2017.

Koni is useless stuff currently, I never liked them more so now.
If I ever need to replace my shockers (I mean, I need to replace them because they are a mismatched pair), I will most likely go for B4 OEM or, better yet, the original.
Excel G is mediocre, the rears are Delphi and utter crap + they are leaking, fun fact today I lost control from the rears hopping. Pulled it through with full throttle, marginally enough torque in 3rd gear to pull the rear. My rears are undrivable, it feels like driving on ice with every lateral imperfection, I have ended up running 20psi just to gain some composure on the rear.

Exactly for the Felicia's target audience

Wow, I mean wow, I'm really surprised to read such stuff on a site and forum like this, and a couple wows as it's coming from a qualified engineer (and one that only believes in factory parts).

If this was with driving on the road the car sounds like it is unroadworthy and bad that someone so knowledgeable should be putting other road users at risk.  You would be the first to moan about anyone else taking tyre pressures well below car manufactures recommended parameters and doing this just to compensate for faulty rear suspension.

I hope that means you have finally taken the car off the road and stopped using it until it is fully repaired and sorted.

Or was that post just a wind up?

Desperate problems require desperate measures when in need of fast (and cheap) solutions

You have to understand something, when the vehicle was handed down to me (from my father I kinda bought it per se) it was handed out as is.

My father as you can understand didn't care for anything more other than the vehicle just being able to roll and if possible accelerate...

My father deliberately fitted the mismatched pair in early 2018, because he wanted to save money (like save 50 euros), thinking the rears don't do anything (fun fact the front gives directional control and the rears make you turn).

As you can understand, when I took the Felicia and decided to start restoring it I had to focus on major things first. What worked even the slightest got 2nd priority, what worked good enough, 3rd.

As you can understand at that family we don't share the same values not the same opinions, vehicles from day one under my supervision are in tip-top shape vehicles under my father's supervision are borderline kept running...

As for the roadworthiness, MOT says its roadworthy, I beg to differ, I deep down know it is not roadworthy, but it is also not worth currently fitting any expensive and very hard to source part to the Felicia, those parts will be fitted when it gets closer to 30 years old. So as long as I'm legal + drive so little annually + find solutions (albeit improper) to compensate to a degree I feel its okay. Also 20psi on the rear and 25 upfront gives a lot of comfort which I do like no matter the actual impact on the vehicle dynamics.

In simple terms, the Felicia is in a limbo state currently, all the parts needed to get it restored to factory-perfect condition are gathered (and still gathering more).
BUT I HAVE NO PLAN whatsoever to install them now, induce wear, induce aging, and expose them to the elements.

So for now I keep it running at a constant state avoiding any further deterioration to current parts and systems but most importantly not induce any wear to parts meant for its future full restoration. Alas, I'm keeping my leaking shocks as long as they pass MOT, I'm keeping my 5year old tires as long as they don't slide even when stationary, I'm keeping my worn out and borderline functioning drums as long as they pass MOT.

Actually not, that vehicle is used so rarely that is effectively off the road, so no plan to repair it in the foreseeable future, and the little driving will be done as is as long as I am legally covered (750km per year or so). If it fails its next 2 MOTs before it gets to 30 years old then yes imma do some minor repairs.

30 front and 28 rear, the stock Felicia weight distribution is 62/38.

its close to that but if you do the math with a reference pressure of 30psi you will see the rears should be much closer to 20 than 28. 30 upfront I majorly disagree. There is no point, especially with my oversized tires.
As you know I run 175/65/14 and never found any benefit in everything above 25 upfront, in fact and I bet you a pita going a square 20-20 setup will yield the most comfortable felicia you have ever driven, but 20 upfront was dangerously low and in fact did not suit my imbalance I was trying to correct.
Actually to correct the rear end I need to drop to something like 18 psi or 15 but it gets too boaty it surfs on the tire rolls on the sidewall and was not very nice. Still even with new shock I don't think I will go anything above 25 psi square
