@ken2  1.5 TSI ACT manual. ? From what build date are they all the same across the 4 brands?     What about the ones that do not do it?    Which there are ones obviously.

  • Absolute rubbish, a driver should not have to adapt his style to overcome what are basic deficiences in the design of the engine. I have owned over 40 cars through 60 years and have never experienced

Almost all of us reporting this problem seem to have a mid to late 2023 or 2024 1.5TSI manual Karoq, so this will be the evo2 engine, ie new version without the engine cover. So I think Bigjohn may be

From when I personally have no idea but I think it is a long ongoing problem, I must admit my car only does it occasionally.

The registration number of my Karoq SE Drive 1.5 manual, which had the loss of power issue, intermittently, at junctions and roundabouts, is MA24LTK. Hope this helps an unsuspecting customer.

I don't think it's anything to do with the cars I think it's your driving styles. Mine is fine always change down gear around 1250, then you got the grunt to carry on or pull away.

Pathetic after sales service from Skoda Dealerships.  Really this nonsense needs more from Skoda / VW UK.     Deaf dumb and blind Franchised Dealerships / Authorised repairers.      The people you have to report Warranty issues to and unsafe behaviour to.   They learned nothing from the WLTP / 2018 kangarooing issues.   That ended up with RECALLS.   Well past time that the DVSA were involved.

Was the kangaroo a recall? My car is 2020 how do I find out if it had been done, although I don't think it has as I can get it to kangaroo it accelerating very gently.

I agree on that as I have changed the way I drive my car in comparison to the way I drove other makes and different engines some seem more tolerant to be in higher gears at slower speeds than the 1.5 TSI.

I'll try driving mine at lower rpm see how it compares just out of interest and report back.

Thanks I'll take a look.

So there is a recall for it your not imagining stuff.

You don't mention which model of 1.5tsi (year/manual or DSG) you have, Ootohere, could you add it to the side panel? Cheers.

Sorry mine is an Octavia 5e5 manual, maybe the karoq just needs a bit more fuelling to shift the extra weight.

@StEdmund I do not have any modern Skoda or VW. i daily drive old ICE cars or EV,s.

But i do get to borrow & drive new cars, i also gert to new car launches to try them as a disabled driver, but only automatics as i have 1 leg, so really i have never experienced a manual and cutting out, or loss of drive.

But then nobody should have to.    As for someone being able to reject a car that does, that is because the Importer & Manufacturer must be well aware there are issues.

"I do not have any modern Skoda or VW"

Thank you, Ootohere, you have spoken with a great deal of authority on the 1.5 tsi, so I naturally assumed that you had personal experience.

@StEdmund My knowledge is from training as a mechanic then as a car sprayer and buying and selling cars and working in VW Group Dealerships doing Warranty assessments on bodies and paint.

Knowing the fitters, techs and master techs that know their jobs and those that should be punted long ago.

The issue is VW Group and Skoda UK in the UK.  BS to customers, always driver error.  They will deny faults until they can deny them no more. Then the next person goes through the same crap.

I meet the Motoring Journalists, and there are only a few that tell it as it is.

For Skoda & VW,s that is mainly Tim Rodie who gets long termers, or Bob Flavin and a few others.  As for What Car / Autocar, Autoexpress, they are deaf dumb and blind selectively with VW Group.

An issue 4 years back.   As far as Skoda was concerned, just a characteristic.

When things are good these guys tell you. and when wrong they will.

Maybe one of the reasons why model on model VAG are phasing out the manual gearbox? :)

And why they can't wait for all cars to be EV's!  😀

Totally agree, letting the revs drop too low when in gear and lugging/stalling is one thing but the engine just cutting out at low revs is another.

I never have that problem with my 2.0T FSI TT and if I did it would annoy the hell out of me.

Good job that the ordered Fabia DSG 1.5 is not affected otherwise we wouldn't have ordered one.

It's disappointing to come back on the forum after a few years away to find that there are still problems with the 1.5, albeit different ones, which was one of the reasons for looking elsewhere when replacing the Yeti and going to Volvo.

Hi all, new to the forum but felt I should tell our story bought a 72 plate 1.5 tsi manual SEL in May this year, within days the engine shut down in exactly the same circumstances as others have experienced. Only happened half a dozen times so far but today the 12th Sep it happened on a roundabout and it could have resulted in serious consequences fortunately it didn’t but I reported the problem on the DVSA website and I also reported it to the dealership I bought it from, it is now booked in for investigation in early October, will let you know the outcome.

Hi AMACk,

From all the posts I have read on this topic nothing conclusive has been found out and all the dealerships find nothing wrong

In my experience with my 23 plate I find the engine is not as tolerant as other engines/cars I have driven and cuts out when in a too higher gear when the revs are low. Mine cut out today when I was in 3rd and maybe I should have been in 2nd, other cars/engines it would have been fine, that's the best way I can describe it with my experience with this engine.

All the best, let me know what you think

Although I have had my Karoq for 9 months, I have only had this engine cutting out problem on three occasions. The first two happened while I was talking to others in the car and the engine cut out as I was slowing down for a roundabout, but I dismissed it as possible driver error whilst being distracted. But then it happened a couple of days ago I was on my own approaching a give way at a T-junction. I had my foot depressing the foot pedal selecting second such that I could do a rolling give-way as I could see it was clear in advance of reaching the junction, (with Stop-Start disabled). But on pressing the accelerator I realised that the engine had cut-out. A message on the dash confirmed I should manually start the engine with the start button. This engine fired up immediately and I was able to continue my journey. I now realise that this was the same problem that had manifested itself before. On mentioning it to another family member, she admitted that she too had experienced this on one occasion when she borrowed the car.

This is a problem that I consider is potentially dangerous as the possibility of an accident is evident. The fact that Skoda has not recognised this as a problem common to the 1.5 Tsi manual given all the previous posts on this same issue, has resulted in me losing confidence in the car and in Skoda as a caring manufacturer.

Interesting to read this, as our 2023 1.5 TSi manual has stalled numerous times since we picked it up.

No fault found at it's recent first service.

I'd initially thought it was just an easy car to stall, but have on several occasions found the engine 'dead' when trying to pull away.

The automated re-start cycle seems to take an eternity when it's stalled in a precarious place!

Never had this issue with any number of manual petrol or diesel cars.

The issues noted in the link above certainly resonate with me so I'll try a few tanks of E5👍

This had become such an issue I was keen to move the car on (or swop to an Auto) but recent used car prices falls mean this will be a hugely costly option.

Early indications are this (https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/527560-throttle-adaption-now-available-in-carista/alteration to throttle mapping has made a positive difference to the cars drivability👍

interesting! I’m assuming you have or are going to try to replicate the behaviour that would have caused the car to cut out previously, would be great if it cures it. I’ll wait for the full results of your testing before I get too excited though, fingers crossed though!

Car is now more positive to drive in traffic and the throttle is easier to modulate a lower speeds - I've covered a few hundred miles with the new throttle setting and will stick with 'direct'👍
