Update of navigation maps

Featured Replies

I also have 25.1 but I didn't do anything manually. The update always happens automatically via OTA

I did the sw update for 1969 and 1985 via usb c but the map never updated this way, after some time an update appeared via OTA

For OTA its only important to have active skoda infotaiment online…and thats how it will update. The bad thing is that after one year this function needs to be payed to be able to continue with updates for maps.

I'm only paying for the phone app at the moment. Not doing the Infotainment thing for a month as I can't afford to due to a speight of £50-150 bills, it's not vital as I have Waze & Google maps to hand and I'm not doing any long  distance journeys where I don't know where I'm going.

you are right, its *******s because oem navigation is like stoneage compared to waze or gmaps. If navi would be waze a like that would be perfect. I have got some action offer to prolong online infotaiment, i think it was 29euro, so i did it but wasted money….

As a service engineer I am traveling long distance and lot different eu countrys but waze is the app which shows me the final destination. Only thing with waze that i dont understand why it cant be closed on iphone when I leave the car and carplay…but thats a diff topic…

Apparently in the latest version of Waze it can appear on the virtual cockpit display if there's an option to display 3rd party apps.

You mean this function is in waze setable

or somehow in infotaiment..

I believe that it's a combination of both

Hi guys. I have a Karoq 2020 with MIB3 and the navigation firmware is 20.9 (so september 2020) and I have activated the 3 month free Infotainment Online services 5 days ago and drove about 6h since then and still no update.

I also tried the USB C stick with official firmware added and left in the front sockets since Saturday and still nothing.

Do you know how long it should take for the update to complete? or is it something manually that I should do from inside the car?

LE: the system version changed from 0230 to 0270 in about 2 days, after activating the Care Connect package - but I do not think that 0270 is the up to date version for my car, as I saw someplace else something like 03xx. Any idea?

When I type the win number in the map update portal. I get a message to contact a service partner. It doesn't give me the files to download the maps. So far everything has been fine. I updated twice.

  • Information on this WIN was not found.

I noticed this yesterday when I went to check my version too, seems too be back working again today.

Hi guys. I have put in my VIN and I get ECE 2025/26 showing 29GB, I click download using Edge browser and then after a while it stopped with message (on download drop down on Edge) 'Couldn't download - Network issue'. Fist time didn't notice how far it got. I clicked download again then it got to about 7GB then stopped, same message. Then I tried again, it got tantalisingly close at 27GB but stopped short of the 29GB. I am using windows 11 with lots of disk space (will copy to USB after). Anyone else had this problem downloading from Skoda website? I have never downloaded a file this large before but not had any issues with my service provider (Plusnet), connection speed is about 35MB/s and estimates about 2 hours.

Hi everyone,

I recently downloaded the latest navigation maps using the official Škoda update site, based on my VIN. I followed the instructions, copied the files to a USB, and plugged it into my car (Octavia Mk4, MIB3 Columbus system).

After driving for about 20 minutes, I checked Settings > System Information, and I can now see the Navigation Database version is 25.6. My previous version was 22.10, so it looks like the update installed successfully.

However, I'm a bit confused – visually, the maps appear to be exactly the same. For example:

  • A new roundabout built last year near my area is still missing

  • Several newly added streets are also not shown

This makes me wonder:

  • Is it possible that the update is still installing or applying in the background, even after the version number changed?

  • Has anyone else experienced something similar – version updated but map content didn’t actually change?

Would really appreciate any insight from someone who has dealt with this before.

Yes, that is possible. If the changes are not reported to the map creator, they will be taken into account within a few months.

But months can go by before the information reaches them.

Hi, For thouse that have updated the maps successfully how long did it take for the update to finish updating?

I'm updating from map version 19.7, over the weekend I've had my car turned on while parked for an hour and I've driven the car for about 2 hours in total (3hrs overall).

The system information still shows map version 19.7, so I'm wondering if my car isn't compatible with the manual update.

I'm using a 128gb exFAT usb stick with a usb-c converter that I know work togther in a computer.

Thanks

Mine was stuck on 20.6 when I got the car last year. I tried the manual updates with various sticks in for days at a time, but I could not get it to update, although I had also paid for the update service. In the end, I got the dealer to update the maps under warranty just before it ran out, and since then it has kept itself up to date with OTA updates.

To be fair, I also find Waze far more convenient to use on a daily basis. However, the real advantage of the factory navigation system becomes apparent with hybrid and electric vehicles.

An interesting observation from my Octavia RS iV :

On longer journeys, there is a noticeable difference in fuel consumption when using the built-in navigation instead of Waze.

With a route entered into the factory navigation, the car clearly makes use of predictive hybrid management — it already knows:

- where descents are coming;

- urban areas;

- motorway sections;

- speed limits;

- traffic conditions.

As a result, it manages the battery far more intelligently:

- where to use electric power;

- where to preserve charge;

- when to regenerate energy.

With Waze, this behaviour is much more limited, and in my experience the fuel consumption is noticeably higher.

Honestly, I initially assumed it was mostly marketing jargon, but it turns out the factory navigation genuinely makes a difference in a PHEV.

I often have to leave the office in the morning, drive 200–300 km to another city, and return the very same day.

At first, I simply entered the destination city as the final stop, and I would almost always arrive with the battery sitting at around 0–3%. Presumably, the system assumes charging will be available at the destination, but in reality I rarely have time to charge during the day.

After a bit of experimenting, I discovered a rather interesting trick:

instead of setting the city as the final destination, I enter it as an intermediate stop and then set a final destination roughly twice as far away. The system then starts preserving battery charge for the “remaining” route.

The result is that I arrive at the intermediate destination with around 20–35% battery remaining. For the return journey, I simply set my office as the destination again.

Using this method, I consistently see a real-world fuel saving of around 0.6–0.8 L/100 km compared to driving with Waze alone.

And to avoid losing the convenience of Waze, I still keep it running in the background without an active route — that way I continue receiving alerts for traffic, cameras and road incidents.
