Skoda Factory Road Trip

Featured Replies

Certainly, for factory tour they don't let circulate everyone in his car around assembly halls - you really need own people carrier, the guide will join you and guide you through the factory.

Guys, did they not mention about your own people carrier when booking, they did when I contacted them. Maybe you should look into it.

It's all under control, our trip to the factory is all but sorted

I drove to Prague last November.

Anyone you can beat my time of 8 Hours 27 Minutes get's a beer when they get back. That 8 Hours 27 Minutes includes the 4 fuel stops I had to make, or was it five? All I know is that I averaged 118mph.

The factory and museum is cool, and Prague is lovely. With lovely ladies.

Have a great time folks!

I'd be happy to just do it in nine from Calais. :D

Why not join us on this trip, you seem to know the way :D

Be careful when driving to Czech Republic, from this month they have increased fines for driving offence hugely...

Have found a willing co-pilot so am sorting out costs between us at the moment.

If it works out then i'll be using the Tunnel as i have a frequent traveller booked this year so would have to meet on the other side,i'd get a 5:30am tunnel crossing though so would be waiting for you all.

So i could be adding my name to the list very soon.

Trying to find link for the accomodation at present.

What car should we use,Octy,Boxster or friends 350Z Convertible, mmmmmmmm

Just need to run this by Kelly - think I'm in though! :)

Steve - any chance you can PM me your number for a chat...?

Cheers! Tom.

Accomodation is booked, PM me if you wish to join us in the apartments (we have 2 apartments booked so you don't need to do anything other than let me know if you wish to stay with us) 6 people are already confirmed and we have 10 spaces available with the option to squeeze in another 3 if need be. You are welcome to make your own accomodation plans if you wish but I would be grateful if you could let me know either way.

Mmmmmm , a Skoda Road Trip me thinks the Octy needs a run out

Can't unfortunatly. I need to save pennies for my mega trip in Febuary 2007.

6,250 miles in a Octavia 4x4 Estate will cost a lot in fuel plus other less important stuff such as the rediculous desire for a hotel when it gets down to minus 30*c.

What hotel are you staying at in Prague, I recomend one as close to the square as possible. I really like staying in the hotel Maximillion. It's quite expensive but very nice.

, no probs just thought I'd pass on things I found out.

Btw my dealer told me about this restaurant http://www.pragueexperience.com/places.asp?PlaceID=356, we didn't get a chance to go. Its supposed to have a nice view of the city ;).

Theres also a Karting track not too far out, its like a demolition derby as the boys don't be watching  great crack starting from the back ;)

Been away for a while but in contact with Steve over this.

Good to see it is coming along nicely, are there going to be any more takers?

Hope there'll be more. :)

Surely someone else fancies the 4 day roadtrip of a lifetime? :D

Just back from 2 weeks in cz 3200miles in total - confirm the new driving rules in cz - headlights must be on at all times. Dont be tempted to speed and stick to speed limits in towns and villages (30mph) Police will be hiding in villages and towns. Be careful were you park and dont use a disabled bay its a big no no.

Traveling in cz is slow as there are not many motoways although from Mlada from Prague there is. Be careful of pot holes in roads and the motorways its quite normal to get big holes, there are many on the transit link around Prauge that you will be using. Alcohol driving limit is 0%.

You need to buy a motorway sticker at the german / cz border there are booths selling them just as you clear the customs on the right - dont be tempted to not buy one - you will be picked up pretty quick there are frequent checks around Prauge

Careful with give way points on roads ther are no road markings the signs show who have priority by the thickness of the road on the sign and remember to indicate you intension even if you are contiuing on the major road. On cz round abouts the rule on round abouts is to indicate at the exit you are leaving you do not indicate as you go round them. You must indicate when you overtake a push bike and indicate when you have done so, there are fines for not doing so.

I personaly suggest travelling through the night thats what I do going out although return through the daytime.

Malada Boleslav where the museum is is about an 1hr 1/2 from Prague, only Octavia's and Fabias are made at Mlada no Ovtavia rs's are made there. You will not be allowed to take any Photos in the factory - although you can in the museum.

My average over many trips from Calias to Mlada is on average 10 1/2 -11 hrs with short stops for fuel and food. Petrol in cz is currently about 30kc a litre there is currently 40kc to the pound.

Enjoy your trip

no Ovtavia rs's are made there.

For some reson I seen a few Octavia's the same blue as the RS in the factory in Mlada, is there a standard version with the same colour ??? I tried to ask the guide but she couldn't really understand what I was getting at. The were as you walk onto the floor, over to the right hand side.

To the best of my knowledge all Octavia Vrs are made at Vrchlabi - I saw them there last week.

They do all sorts of specials with colours for different markets for example I saw mk 1 Octavia Rs 's loaded on a train without green calipers or a vrs badge just the interior seats exaust etc.

The different plants have the capability to spray bodies for full assembly at one of the other 2 plants.

Headlights on even in mid summer? I read about that, but thought it said from end of September only?

I don't doubt you about Vrchlabi, as I heard that before, I figured they might have been doing some kind of testing.

Btw was there much to see in Vrchlabi

I've got a Czech highway pass that I think is valid for another few months, if it is I shall offer it to one of you guys. I've also got a Polish one somewhere too, but I think that expires in a week or two.

You can see the finished cars in the factory pound and cars being loaded at vrclabi train station - around vrclabi is good with the spindler mylin (sp) ski resort close by

Trip is open - Apartment is booked. All you two need to do is book the ferry as per the post 1 in this thread (I think) and once booked, get your name on the confirmed list. Then get some currency changed into Koruna (or whatever).

Oh, and Will's gonna be busy Saturday night. Men only ;):D
