Software failure not so Superb

Yes, as mentioned, you get whacked if the brand new, full list price of the car is over the threshold. Quite how VW can charge over £40k for a Passat I don't know (although a new Touareg R is mid £90k!!!).

I can't comment on the new Cupra brand, but I've loved previous Leon's and Ibiza's. Cupra Leon Estate is a fair bit smaller on a Superb, mind, and it is still a reasonably large car for a 1.5.

  • Hello from Latvia! I also bought a Škoda Superb L&K 2.0TSI 4x4 (delivered in May 2024). Everything was fine until October 2024 (I drove around 5000 km at that point). I got 7 warnings related to

  • My wife's Superb was updated a week ago on 2nd December and there have been no problems since. She drove 320 miles at the weekend and all was well.   She's finally starting to enjoy the car

  • I got my car back yesterday,  33 miles on, no problems.  I know that is not far, but went wrong after 10 miles when I got it . So, let's hope,  fingers crossed!

Dont forget the tax banding etc is based on the list price including extras and not on what you pay.

Yes it comes in £350 under the £40k at list

Thanks. It’s still got one of the bigger boots which is what we need and reviews suggest it’s got quite a sporty drive even with the same 1.5 engine. To be fair we would originally have gone for an Octavia but the Superb was a cheaper deal at the time. They are also doing two services for £99 and with the five year warranty we will hopefully have trouble free motoring for five years. The deal I’ve got takes the full price from £39750 to £29900 so a chunky discount.

Yes, that is a good deal. I got about 30% off my Octavia, but that's another story!

The boot should be the same size as an Octavia, and it should drive a bit better than the Superb (for the engine size, etc). Definitely drive it before committing to anything - but yes, the Leon's drive very nicely for the class of car they are.

Is this deal with the same dealer as the Superb or a separate one?

No, a different dealer. I wouldn’t go near the Škoda dealer I got my Superb from. Distinctly unhelpful and tried to deflect me away when rejecting the car. I do also like the look of the Cupra Leon estate and having had a Leon estate a few years back know it will suit size wise.

That sounds like every main dealer I've ever encountered - including the one that sold me a crash damaged car. I'm planning a move to York - not that I'd want to use a main dealer, but good to know that particular one is especially useless.

Let us know how you get on with it - they look very sharp, and hopefully drive the same as the previous Leon FR did. For the price, it sounds like a VZ3 - really nicely specced cars.

I had a 2024 Leon as a dealer courtesy car (54 miles on it), but was quite disappointed with it compared to my old Leon. It drove perfectly well, was smooth, looked good and was a nice place to be, but just wasn't the same. Then again, that's most new cars!

In connection with the new alert sound that activates when the speed limit changes, as mentioned in earlier posts, the sound can be disabled using the attached image. After restarting, the setting remains as saved. And just to be clear, this setting applies to the sound when the speed limit changes, not the sound that occurs when you exceed the legal speed limit.

Hope it’s clear!

Like others I decided to reject my PHEV Skoda. Fortunately my dealership was very helpful and supported my claim. The process took about a week. As mentioned in another thread I reserved the right to reject my car when it broke down after 13 days. Skoda CS were of little help and could offer no date for a fix. For the 2 months I had the car the number of problems/errors grew and so I was left with no choice - a pity as I liked the car very much. Having had problems with 2 previous new cars (a Citroen PHEV and a Fiat EV) although not as serious as the Skoda, it is clear manufacturers are pushing these technically advanced cars out without being properly tested.

I have finally booked my car in for the software upgrade, was waiting until a recall was sent out but a recent experience whilst driving to Germany made my mind up to get it done sooner rather than later

We were on route on the French autoroute about half way when the warning lights started coming on, usual front camera, and parking sensor ones etc, but this time the electronic brake and then it went in to limp mode, limiting the engine to 3k rpm.

We stopped at the next available lay by and I did the usual routine of switching off, getting out, locking he car and waiting 30 secs.

Got back in switched on and started up and all was well, no record in the driving data of any faults ever happening.

Usual stuff!

Car is booked in on 12th May, lets hope the upgrade cures the problems.

I friend of mine got a MY25 Kodiaq IV , he got problem from the first days with the assistant systems.

The workshop told him that it is a known problem and they fixed it . They replaced the third level that you control/set the cruise control and more. The also replaced the connection module for this level.

Maybe a hint for those with problems with the assistant system

My software upgrade was in December and pleased to say seems yo be working.

I sm convinced Skoda knew about the problems when the launched the car but didn't want to move the date. They would sort the problems when they had the money

Something British Leyland used to do and where are they now?

Had the Cupra Leon V2 Estate Dsg 1.5 for four weeks now and I love it. The 1.5 engine seems perfectly matched and with the adaptive dampeners the drive is lovely. The infotainment works well and it has the same 12.9” screen the Superb had.

Hi all,

I was planning to buy the new Skoda superb PHEV. After reading this thread it gets me somewhat worried. I currently have skoda octavia mk4 PHEV. I bought it used and it came with so much issues. After a lot of repairs such as gear lever warning and latest software updates both for infotainment system and driver panel to solve flickering issues. After all that the car works flawlessly for over 8 months. This was a car is a 2021 model and it took skoda 3 years to solve all the software issues. Will it be the same with new superb? I know this question been asked before, did anyone here buy a 2025 model superb recently? What is your experience with a later produced model?

Hi Rob,

I picked mine up in early December 2024 and the car now has 12k kms on it. In summary: I am super happy with the car and after a teething issue in the first weeks it has given me no issues, only joy. The teething issue: I initially had the 'assist systems' warnings, did a 'hard reset' myself by disconnecting the battery and took the car back to the dealership for a check. They told ne they did a reset, but honestly I am not sure they actually did much. In the weeks after, the warning popped up 2 or 3 times. Each time, stopping the car, switching the ignition on and off cleared the problem. The last time I had the error message was January 2025, since then, plain sailing. I use the car a couple of times per week for commutes and it has been on a family ski-trip to Austria and several longer drives also. As said, nothing but joy from this car. Hope this helps!

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the update. Did the warnings pop up while driving or directly when starting the car? I had the same issue with my octavia when starting the car. What solved the issue was to replace the 12v battery. It seems like if the battery cant put out enough current at start some systems in the car just malfunctions. The battery still showed over 12v before the battery replacement. In skodas manual they recommend battery replacement every 4 year, like really? I guess modern car really put a lot of stress on the batteries. The warning also popped up if I had fog on the window in front of the camera. Took a long time to understand that.

I collected my Superb PHEV estate late December 2024 and had a couple of charging issues with it in the early days which turned out to be operator error. Now I understand the charging to 80% setting all is fine. Nothing but pleasure from this car. Much better than the Citroen PHEV I had previously. Charging to 80% I get 50 miles range so I am sure the Skoda claim of 62 miles is right with 100% charging. Some say restricting the charge to 80% only applies to full EV cars not hybrids. Skoda battery management is great with the petrol engine kicking in to assist the battery when needed. I have 2500 miles on the clock at an average of 101mpg. The Emergency Brake Assist is too violent as others have noted on this forum. If it thinks there is danger of hitting something the brakes come on WALLOP and the seat belt tightens. Had it happen when car detected a speed bump, too much safety. Love the car and I hope you go with it.

Hi Rob, for me the warnings popped up once at start and 2x during a drive. The car+battery were brand new, so I do not think it was battery related. Yes, same issue with fog/ice over the sensor, but that is a 'genuine' error, because the sensor is actually blocked and cleaning the windscreen area over the sensor solves the problem.

Yeah, same issue with the emergency braking - last week the car thought I was about to hit a pedestrian (I was not) and that emergency braking is VIOLENT! I had the same issue with my previous Superb Mk3. I think that would be my one and only gripe with this car: the warning systems sometimes intervene 'for nothing' and actually create a dangerous situation - like last week, the braking was sudden and violent and I felt lucky the var behind me did not rear-end me. I estimate this happens about 1x per month.

I picked my car up in July, and the problems were immediate. I returned the car and the dealership had it for 5 months before the software fix came out in December. Since then I have not had any problems

Can you turn off the automatic braking but keep the warning? This issue is not only on skoda. In work we rented a Volvo and it did the same, braking without anything in front of us. I was shocked because the road was empty. Maybe it detected a leaf or something.

Anyway in Sweden where I live they have a good campaign on the price on the skoda superb. You get a lot for the money thats why I am considering a skoda again even if my octavia had so much issues in the beginning. I will talk to the salesman to see if he knows about all this software issues.

I'm late to the thread so sorry for asking for clarification - but just so I fully understand, as I am eye balling a great deal on a brand new Superb Sportline, are all MK4 models effected by the software/sensor issues? And is the official final fix from Skoda still outstanding?

Does this software/sensor issue also exist in the new Octavia?

What I've read here so far has me thinking I should swerve today's new Skoda's and switch out my Octavia VRS MK3.5 for another brand (BMW, Volvo)

I have the mk4 L&k PHEV and am very pleased with it. The software issues seem mainly to be in European cousins. I switched after years with Citroën and the VAG systems are superior. Currently in France and not able to get their chargers to accept my credit or debit cards. But still getting 52 mpg running on petrol and the regenerative charging.

Hello Jimmy

The software faults seem to be fixed, I had my software update in December and not had a problem since. When the Superb is all working it is a lovely car and I get 50mpg.

I still have software niggles, the interior light sometime comes on for no reason, I turn it off and it comes back on 5 minutes later. This can go on for 20 minutes then it works as it should. I have also had the main screen crash. It comes back next time you start the car. Annoying!

Hi Jimmy, Collected my car mid December 2024 so prob had the software update mentioned by Celli. No problems to date. Dealer near Southampton.

My car was produced April/May, did over 5k kilometers so far and 3-4 times of Android Auto not working/disconnecting.

Infotainment itself hanged so far two times only and was reset via holding the off screen button. No ignition restart required.

After the Golf8/Octavia 4 infotainment disaster, this thing is useful, well executed and solid.

Oncoming vehicle or obstacle sensors are different thing and they are more sensitive than in Passat B8 so one needs to adapt to their behavior.
