Fuel leaking into oil (2.0 TDI / BKD)

Featured Replies

Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI 2012 (BKD). Diesel is leaking into the oil. The oil dipstick has gone from the middle of the scale to the FULL mark over 1000 km. There’s a small puddle of oil around the two injectors closest to the oil filler neck (on top of the valve cover?). Additionally, the engine has been breathing quite a lot of oil onto the engine cover through the oil filler, and there’s more buildup of dirt and grime around the pipes and area near those two injectors compared to the other side (furthest from the oil filler).

What could be causing this, or more accurately, what might be the issue?

My first thought would be worn piston rings.  Have you noticed the exhaust smoking more than usual?

Actually, it smokes less than it used to. But that might just be because I’ve been driving longer distances and I regularly clean the throttle body. On the other hand, could the constant buildup of carbon in the throttle body be connected to this issue?

Also the milage is 251000 km.

Possibly leaking injectors?

Have you looked on line for likely causes?

I would suspect a blocked DPF or a broken injector nose.

If you have a simple wifi or blutooth OBD2 connector for the diagnostic port, there is a good app for reading the DPF ash content.

I don't think you have a BKD engine. The injectors are under the valve cover so are not seen unless you take the valve cover off. The injectors themselves will always be covered in oil as they run under the two cams. There is a fuel pump on the end of the cyclinder head on the end towards the battery where the fuel is fed in.

Didn't think they used the BKD on the Combi variant?
