I wouldn't update directly from 1806 to 1985 anyway. Where did you get the 1985 firmware? Is there a reputable source?

From this thread, first message 4 pages back is the source.

I would download the firmware again, first unzip it on the PC, then copy it to the USB stick and try again.

So I press start update at bottom of the list of MIxxxxx files(?) then the start update again at bottom of screen with no files listed (same as in video) then I just get screen with Update Progess in red at top of screen and Back Button below, nothing else happens, waited over 5 mins. If i click Back Button i get screen User abort! with Update Interrupted in middle of screen, with options Continue update or Cancel update, if I choose Continue then again same screen nothing happens. Should I try clicking cancel update?! Guess no other option. If you read this more than an hour after I've posted I will have tried it!

Edit: after clicking continue update, after waiting a while it started updating...

is it possible to update from 1896 straight to 1985? or should i install an older update before jumping to 1985?

You can because some have done it straight. But I did every update manually till 1985. Next will be 1989 some Seat owners had an OTA update to 1988

I've got version 1941 downloaded as well as 1985 just now. I only have the 1985 update on my exFAT usb c flash drive. Should i be okay then to update straight to that? Also must the engine be off? I have seen some people update with the engine switched on.

The last update I did it with engine on no problems. With engine off your battery must be fully new and charged well.

I went straight from 1896 to 1985, took advice from a VAG software engineer who said it was fine to do so. I too wondered whether you had to apply updates in increments and he said to do so between 1896 and 1985 was a waste of time. I believe there are some of the older versions of software where you must apply updates in stages, but 1896 to 1985 is completely fine.

I managed to do it from 1896 straight to 1985 (with engine on) and had no issues. Took a good 25 minutes and was worried at the CPU update because it took ages but all okay! Let’s see how this version is compared to 1896.

So im still on 1803, with the attached software train. After doing some reading it looks like im able to update to the last version 1985 but is recommended to do so in stages. What would the first recommended update be for me to do, 1896? And if so, where am i able to download this version. Reading through this forums im only able to get links that are either not working anymore or restricted due to download limits. I already downloaded the latest 1985 (9.3gb's), arent i able to just go directly to this version or will this cause issues? Thanks!

You need at least 1941 than you can go straight to 1985 your map data are outdated too we have 25.7 also July 25, but for map it's better to have an subscription of infotainment online.

Thanks for the headsup, is 1941 available anywhere for download? Ive tried searching the forums but the links are not active anymore...

Hi,

my Octavia 4 from 2020 with the H56 Hardware is still an Software Version 1668 (MOI3_EU_VW_R6680L). OTA update doesn't work, the car is looking for updates for hours without a result. Do you think I can directly update to 1941 and then 1985 or do I need steps in between. If so, where can I get the correct files?

Thank you so much for your help!

My 2021 Octavia had 1668 installed when I took delivery of it in January 2022. The dealer updated it directly to 1896 in November 2022. There wasn't ever a 17XX firmware deployed to it. From 1896 it was taken up to 1941.

1668 was a really buggy firmware from what I remember. The most annoying bug was it not automatically connecting to a paired phone. You either had to manually connect, or open and close the drivers door quickly after starting the car... then it would connect.

It's such a shame Skoda were not more proactive in pushing updated firmware to these early Mk4's, as it's now much more of a pain for owners of these cars with early firmware to get resolved, and potentially expensive if out of warranty.

@Axel_OctIV If the infotainment firmware is old you may find you experience other issues such as the SOS system crashing and restarting, etc. These are known issues that can be resolved by firmware updates to other modules in the car.

@JamesK I highly appreciate your response. I will try to find 1896 somewhere, since I don't think it's a good idea to go directly to 1941. If anybody has this software version, I would be really happy. If not I think I have to go to my Skoda dealer. I notice several bucks, like missing back camera picture, random warnings, slow boot of the shop and other online services etc.
