Is My FABIA a belt driven or Chain driven car

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've been really lucky recently and I've managed to buy a 2009 Skoda Fabia with only 36000 miles on the clock.

I neglected to find out If the belt has been changed but I'm now unsure if it even has one?

Does it have a belt or chain, and when do I need to replace whatever it does have?

Welcome.

You really need to say what the engine is, petrol or diesel, 3 or 4 cylinders as Derren Brown is on holiday, but maybe there is someone around still that can help.

Hello, welcome to the forum.

MPI or TDI?

Please check and post here your engine code - this can be found listed on the vehicle registration document at the beginning of the engine number (3 or 4 letter characters)

Chain, lifetime fit.

Your car like 99.9%of others is gear and shaft driven.

As Breezy_pete said,  chain driven, should be ok with that milage as long as oil and filter was changed at least once a year, mostly if adjuster has worn or oil change not done the chain will be noisy and a bit rattly something you might want to gt sorted soonerhan later but if no rattle noise fine just keep oil and filter service up to date and use decent oil or recomened Longlife oil, my MK2 Fabia oil and filter changed every year wit a genuine VW filter and longlife oil engine did 125,ooo changed cam belt and pump with genuine kit and coolant at recommened 96000 mile interval , car is no more written off but a friend had the 1.9 TDI motor and is now on 169000 miles only job he has had to do is swap the turbo actuator the old one developed a fault
