New car picked up today but some oddities......

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone, picked up the new car today (1,4iV SE-L estate) and had a 2 1/2 hour journey back so plenty of time to explore. A couple of observations:

1. The cup holder doesn't fit a cup! What on earth is going on...are there any clever solutions?/can you buy an adaptor or something.... (fingers crossed)
2. Disappointed to realise that main beam isn't automatic. It's a Dec 23 car so I guess just one of those things.....,
3. I didn't get a battery condition report from the dealer which I was expecting...again is this normal?

Many thanks

If a 2.5 hour journey home hasn't done the trick and you're worried, buy a £12.99 battery charger from Lidl. Your car has been started several times for very short journeys and stood at the docks etc but should be fine. If not it should be replaced if it fails in the short term.

When you get home install Skoda Connect app on your phone or visit https://www.skoda-connect.com/ on your tablet,PC,Mac and set up an account and you may be able to buy High Beam Assist amongst other things in the shop.

Ah thanks but it's done 12,000 miles so it should be well sorted, it's just that I thought they are thoroughly tested and reported on by the dealer....

Ah I see, will have a look. Effectively download it onto the car then......

Thanks

You buy it and it puts an electronic licence on the car, just check it does what you want it to do before purchasing.

I haven't taken delivery yet of my car so can't test anything...does the Connect app have any functionality for free? Is there any way of seeing the options and prices other than looking in the app (which I obviously can't activate until I get the vehicle)?

The app has quite a bit of functionality, especially with models built more recently than mine, and AIUI, for the iV can manage charging times etc.

There is a link to a shop through which additional features or services can be purchased. Auto headlight dip being one of them )assuming the vehicle supports it - which it should).

Well worth having the app on your smartphone

Thanks Steve, yes I've been going through the app and shop and it does seem good.

£179 for high beam though- ouch

Blimey, how much?!

When I first looked for mine four years ago it was £99 - and I decided that was too much!

High beam is a nice touch where it takes care of itself. It's on my RS and I just activate it before I move away and leave it.

I still get the little wimps flash me because of my lights, even though they're auto and they dip themselves. Ultimately it depends on how much night/early morning driving you do will more or less dictate whether you're going to find it VFM. I used to be a train driver before retirement and I used to drive mostly either early mornings (0300-0500) or late shifts (1200-0200) so anything after 1600 was dusk or dark in the autumn/winter, so it was useful.

Now I'm retired I don't do much night time driving, so its value has somewhat diminished, but it's still a very good thing to have as I don't have to constantly dip or raise my lights at night or twilight/dusk.

You better get used to LED headlights and the automatic functionality of them, with the evolution of EVs you're going to find them increasingly common.

That functionality includes AHO, automatic leveling and other functionality checks.

They (LEDs) are pretty much standard fitment to all EVs due to the low power draw (compared to HID, Halogen or traditional filament bulbs) due to their light weight and zero maintenance as well as improved range and road visibility.

They don't bother me in the slightest and these headlights are a bit stronger than what I used to have to put up with at work and there I was in charge of things that make your 44t lorry look like a dinky toy in fact anywhere between 140/280 or 173 & 520 imperial tons and do anywhere between 15 & 100mph in ZERO visibility with a set of brilliant headlights that made it like a wall of exceptionally white bright light.

Just look slightly away from them not difficult it's not difficult, my headlights are set to auto, they've been checked for alignment and are correctly set.

If people think my lights are high I give them a demonstration of what high beam is actually like, it's grockles from town that have the most difficulty with them and they're the ones who regularly forget to switch them on or forget to drop them to dipped beam.

That does not surprise me.

Google the A82, A83, A85, A816 and the A819. And then tell me to look away slightly 😂

How about @TheWanderer looks "away" about 90 degrees right at Pulpit Rock  Northbound? ;)

Not interested.

In defense of some of the solutions, the matrix lights seem to be really proactive at knocking out the sections. I can see them dropping out segments all the time for the slightest bit of light.

I have mine set to dip at long distance and rarely get flashed. In fact, the most times I get flashed is when the berk driving towards me has a faulty headlight and my car assumes that it's a motorbike or not a car. Not bothered about that but I quite often turn it off on country lanes as they have no time to react before dazzling the other driver.
