Keyless lock / unlock doesn't always work

Featured Replies

I just got a new facelift Octavia and sprung for the keyless entry option, however when approaching or leaving the car it doesn't always lock or unlock. About 1 in 5 times it will just not do anything. The handle sensors always work.

I thought it might be when I had my phone in the same pocket but after a few tests it happens regardless.

Does anyone else have this issue? I haven't tried the other key yet but just wondered if anyone else has experienced the same thing?

If it's like mine and others people have posted about in here, it is probably due to wet weather which gets in and causes the locking feature to disengage, at least until it's dry again.

There is a work around, it's posted on here somewhere (do a search for KESSY) but it's by no means a quick or simple fix. It involves stripping the door handles right back and replacing something inside of them which shuts out the wet weather for good

I should have probably mentioned its only two weeks old so I'd hope it's not something like that. If it truly is a fault I'll need to take it back to the dealer but before I do I just want to work out if I'm misunderstanding how it should work or if I'm doing something incorrect.

Interesting. My one is mostly OK. I've found out that if I approach the car holding my phone or anything dense/metallic right next to my key it probably won't open. Once in a blue moon it won't unlock upon approach or can I open the boot with the fob. Seems to be oK the next time I approach. Weird.

Mine doesn't ever have issues unlocking, once I wrap my hand around the handle it opens every time. But it's meant to lock when you hover your hand over the little 'switch' on the outside of the handle, and when it's been quite wet mine doesn't lock. As mentioned, it's a known condition (to owners anyway) but if Skoda haven't changed how they build them since they built mine (4 years ago) then it wouldn't surprise me if it does this right from the factory

Yeah the handle works completely fine, it's the auto approach / walk away locking and unlocking that's not very reliable.

Today I thought it had sorted itself out, it worked 9 times and as I got home failed to lock as I walked down my drive.

I'm going to swap my keys over and see if there's a difference. If not I'll take it back to the dealer.

TBQH I wouldn't use the unlock on approach system, it's a security risk.

I don't often use keyless either, preferring to use the fob buttons instead.

My car is 3 weeks old. I’m having the same problem. It hasn’t locked a few times when I’ve walked away. Now I sort of have to look back and make sure I see the mirrors fold back t9 know it’s working. The car will chirp once and then lock. Occasionally I’ve heard it chirp twice which seems to indicate a problem.

I’ve had the car parked at the airport for a week and now it seems the wake-up animation isn’t working either. I tried turning it off and back on but didn’t seem to do much. I’ll also try another key tomorrow to see if that is something t9 do with it.

didn't make any difference using another key. I tried just firing the system to reboot and then the animation stuff was turned off. Turned it back on and now it works fine.

Personally I prefer to use the grab the handle to unlock method (Only works on the door you are at so not a security risk) and the touch the handle to lock method when wanting to lock the car.

That way I know the car has locked without having to get the key fob out or having to look back and check.

I’ll probably end up doing the same. My 2012 Subaru did that so I’ve been enjoying trying out features my old car didn’t have. also have driven a few EVs and it is great to just get in and get out and not worry about locking and I unlocking the car

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi, I have got exactly the same issue on my 2 months old vrs. I've tried to keep the key in my hand or change the pockets but it works maybe 1 in 5 times. Does anyone figured out how to fix this? Or maybe contacted with dealer and have any advises? Honesty, it starts to be a little annoying for me. Many thansk

I noticed the light animation stopped working too. I rebooted the central screen by holding down the power button and its been perfect ever since both the animation and the auto locking

I have rebooted the screen couple of days ago and looks good so far. Will see if this is just temporary and will need to reboot this again. Anyway, thanks for the advice!

I'll give this a try as well. It seems to be slightly better over time but it's still not great.

The dealership contacted me as a check in and I mentioned it to them, they're going to check with the aftercare team to see if it's been reported before.
