Washer fluid level warning

Featured Replies

I’m surprised to find that my 2025 Octavia SEL estate does not warn me when the washer level is low. This certainly was the case on my previous Octavias. Is this a fault or is Škoda not as “simply clever” as they used to be?

Mine certainly has a low washer fluid level warning; it’s pre-FL, which may or may not make a difference.

My 2021 vrs had this issue. I think a sensor was replaced or recalibrated under warranty

At least with VW cars, at some point in time, it was only the bigger cars that got "winter pack" that got "low fluid warning" built in. My wife's 2002 VW Polo with winter pack did not get "low fluid warning nor does her current 2015 VW Polo with winter pack. My personal import 2000 VW Passat 4Motion did get "low fluid warning" as it had Xenon headlights - but as it came from/through a Dutch dealership, or some other reason, the coding was set up wrong, so I needed to buy VCDS to sort that out as my local UK dealer said "tough - it needs a new dashpod, fitting and coding - and that will cost you quite a lot" - well a quick sniff around the internet and buying VCDS had that sorted sharpish without needing to buy any new dashpod - chancers! The cars that ended up with Xenon headlights, do use that low fluid sensor to stop washing the headlights when the washer fluid is getting a bit low - so leaving it for washing the windscreen only.

All Audi's (S3, A4, S4, RS4) and Skoda's (Fabia, Octavia) I've owned have had the low fluid warning including those without Xenon headlamps?

I asked the dealership about my facelift Octavia – the windshield washer fluid sensor is only included on models with Matrix LED headlights.

That surprises me, they didn't misunderstand and think you were asking about headlight washers?

@andypollard, if you let me know your VIN I may be able to find out if your car was built with this level sensing or not.

I don't see anything in the PR code list that really gives a clue one way or the other, although it does say without headlight washers, which might be one reason for omission.

Parts list suggests 5E3 955 448 A for the reservoir bottle, which appears to include the level sensor as standard. Pics in an ebay listing for that PN show it just to the right of the washer pump motor connector on the rear-facing side. Taking a few screws out of the front part of the NSF wheel arch liner may give enough visibilty to check presence/absence.

It might be that there is a setting somewhere that has accidentally been switched to 'don't display washer reservoir low level warning'?

I know in some much earlier Skodas you can change the coding (with VCDS) of the instrument cluster to include/exclude such warning info. That sort of software switching is presumably possible via user interface on current models?

Thanks for this, very helpful!

2024 Octavia SEL estate does not have a washer fluid low level alarm. Just checked with Skoda. So I have an umberella in my door but no washer level alarm.😂

Such a basic requirement; simply stupid!

My January ’22 vRS has just been in under the approved used warranty and had the whole water bottle and sensor assembly replaced as it appears it has been leaking and had leaked over the sensor unit and fried it.

It’s not had chance to drop low enough yet to confirm it’s working again but they’ve said it I’d sorted so I have to assume they checked it flagged up a low fluid warning before filling the washer bottle up after fitting. 😁
