Constant Software Update Notification

Featured Replies

Also been getting this, at least 4 attempts over the past week or more, on 1989. Hope today was the last. 1989 kept crashing for me when I tried to play a radio station, I like to turn off radio icons, after several resets I realised that it was turning off radio icons that crashed the 1989 version when trying to listen to the radio. Thought my 1989 was stable, until this...

  • For the first time I had the confirmation screen that updates had been installed today:

I spoke too soon. It's started asking for the update again and it has gone back to the original screens and icons. 😖

I received an e-mail last night from Skoda Customer Services stating they've checked my vehicle and the update has now successfully applied. It hasn't prompted to install again so far today.

That being said, my icons look no different - so I'm not convinced that it has applied, or that they've just stopped it from trying to apply to my vehicle.

@TheWanderer Any chance you can post a picture of how your infotainment icons look so I can compare against mine?

If I remember next time I use the car. I'll see if I remember to do it.

For me, the message appeared even today after more the 8 attempts to upgrade from about a month ago

It's started appearing for me again over the last two days. Skoda support asked me to provide pictures with date/time stamps on them of when it prompts. So I've taken photos and sent them in the past 2 days... but not had any response.

Might be worth everyone who gets this to e-mail them at [email protected] to raise awareness that it's a bigger issue affecting many people.

I was getting this, then had my car in for software updates to bring it up to date (all modules, some of which had fallen behind at some point)

Now what I'm constantly getting is the "manual has been updated" message, no matter how many times I clear it 🤷

@scotthugh3s How did you get your dealer to upgrade all modules? My dealer is very reluctant to do it. I'm really pushing for this to happen.

The car went in for service earlier in the week and they updated the infotainment to 1985. Their hope was that it would then update OTA to 1989. After they updated it I got the "manual has been updated" message once.

Suffice to say it hasn't subsequently updated OTA to 1989 as I'm 99% sure they need to update the OCU.

However, 2 days after they updated the infotainment it's now started pushing the daily update again.

Do we think this is only Octavia Mk4? I assume everyone posting here has Octy Mk4. Mine is trying once a day. Takes a while saying "upgrading" and then nothing changes and no error or completion messages.

As Skoda support wanted date/time screenshots I actually waited in the car to see the completion message. But same as you, there's never any change after I restart the car. Tomorrow it will prompt to install again,.

@East_Yorkshire_Retrofits I’ve been meaning to come to you for the past 3 years to have a reversing camera and possibly a towbar fitted! It’s just the 400 mile, 8 hour round trip that’s been putting me off. But if I can finally get all the modules updated on my car then maybe I need to reconsider! 😀

I experience the same issue with my car (Octavia MY 21 infotainment v. 1941). Have been going on for about 2 weeks. My car prompts the update everyday despite reporting successful installation the day(s) before. Got a generic reply from Skoda telling me to perform a factory reset. Will try that but allow me to doubt. Have anyone got rid of the never ending notification, and if so, how?

I haven't had the need to use the car for a couple of days due to the weather & getting over a cold. I'll find out tomorrow, as I need to get some groceries.

The notifications will be difficult to remove if Skoda are actively pushing this update every day. My guess is that our vehicles report their software status back to Skoda centrally every day. Skoda must then run some kind of overnight report, and for whatever reason it continues to flag that the software update is not installed and therefore it gets pushed to the car again.

I think it's clear the update isn't applying as I've seen no change in the UI, graphics and icons that we should supposedly see after a restart of the car. So it is strange the car reports a successful installation.

I went out in the car earlier this morning, and was again prompted to install the update.

Ultimately I think this is for Skoda to resolve centrally.

This was a question I asked my dealer a couple of years ago .... "What happens if Skoda push an update OTA that goes wrong when a vehicle is out of warranty?".... I think we now have the answer. At the moment, Skoda don't do anything!

A fairly predictable response to my email of yesterday....

"As the first troubleshooting step, please perform the following steps in your vehicle's Infotainment system:
– press and hold the “Power” button in the bottom left corner of your Infotainment system;
– wait until the screen goes dark and release the button.

Afterwards, please verify if the software update notification keeps appearing. If the issue persists, please include the following information for our investigation:
– a photo of the Settings > System Information page in the Infotainment system, to display your current software version;
– a photo of the Settings > System Information > All updates page in the Infotainment system, to show any pending updates.

This information will help us analyze this situation with our technical team.

We apologize for the confusing issue and will do our best to resolve it.
"

A modicum of encouragement in that they're mentioning "... analyse the situation..."

At least they did apologize 😜

Sincere apologies also for me and they didn’t use same template. However, it might be challenging to ”provide a screenshot of the error message” since I get no such thing. Only a message stating successful installation.

Thank you for contacting us.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

We recommend to perform the factory reset in your vehicle. Please follow these steps:

1) Reboot the Infotainment panel by pressing & holding the power button for approx. 15 sec until the Skoda logo appears.

2) Open the Infotainment menu in your vehicle

3) Continue to the "Settings"

4) Then click on "Factory settings" Pleas note that this will delete all stored personal settings (paired phones, favourite radio stations, user profiles, etc.) and also remove the user profile / user (ŠKODA ID) from the Infotainment. Then please enroll the vehicle with your account again. Kindly monitor if the update notification still appears.

If the problem persists, please provide us with:

- A screenshot or photo of the error message.

- The exact date and time when the notification appears.

Once we have this information, we will review your issue again and inform you as soon as we have a solution.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Probably just laziness on the part of the support representative sending you this e-mail. I think what they really want is just a photo of the infotainment system prompting to install the update.

I've now sent them 4 e-mails with a date/timestamped photos (1 photo of the prompt to install, and another of the 'successfully install' message) over the past 4 days like they've asked, and not had a single response from them.

Also from the wording it looks like they're taking all of these reports as separate things, rather than joining the dots and realising that all of a sudden they're getting a few complaints relating to the same update being pushed.

I also got reply from Škoda support, but like the others, it seems generic.

I had pretty much the same response initially on 6th February:

I've left my case number in the screenshot above in case you want them to try and link the cases.

Octavia MK4 2023, with 1989 software version (manually upgraded)

Some problem here. I don't mind, but I'm curious about SKODA's fix.

Are any of you 'Primary User' in your car? I have only ever used 'Guest'. I created an account and logged in, becoming Primary User and ran the update, and got 2 green ticks for the data plans and shop updates. I've not seen them before. Will see if I get another update tomorrow but I wonder if the update needs a primary user to work.

Yes, I'm logged in as primary user. I received the following 'update' from Skoda yesterday...
