Octavia MK4 MY2023 OTA update went wrong (03A8)

Featured Replies

On Monday the infotainment inform me that a new update found and download begun.

20260308_155218.jpg

After the download was complete and I arrived at my destination, I turned off the power and got out of the car.

The next day when I got in, it asked to start the installation, I accepted it and when it finished the installation, a series of repeated resets began as I was driving. There was no sound, so after 14 resets, the infotainment stopped working (thankfully because I was dizzy from the restart sound)

Obviously something was wrong. When I got home and had time, I stopped to see what was happening. The user (me) had been lost and I had to go through it again. I did the procedure and thought that everything was over, as I entered the menus, adjusted the sound and put some FM stations in the memories. Everything seemed fine. But when I went to the main screen (HOME) it got stuck and after 1 to 2 minutes it reset. This happens as many times as it went to this screen, on the rest I see them normally. Sometimes the sound is not there, but this happens from time to time.

Today the same thing again, it seems that there is some problem with this screen (HOME), when I get to it, it gets stuck and resets itself.

This is the status of my software.

What I thought about was reloading 1989 manually (that's how I had done it the first time.)

Can the same version be done again in the same way we know as an update?

Does anyone have any other ideas? What can I do before I end up going to the dealership?

Hi, had the very same thing happen to me. After a couple of visits to the dealer they replaced the head unit with a new one, under warranty of course. Been ok ever since

I waited for the car to finish the download, then pressed the start button, went off and did shopping, then when I got back in it was showing the Skoda CONNECT screen, I just left it alone for a few minutes, I did NOT start the engine, I gave it time to settle which was about 10 mins.

Then entered my email address & password and it was all good. Then I started the engine. No problems since, the only annoyance was having to enter all of my account details again to get my settings back!

Hello @Giannis20 ,

This OTA update is for OCU unit. Please see below related thread for more information: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/537961-oru3-ocu-sw0311-octavia-o3a8/

  1. Have you check the version was correctly installed(no weird DTCs are present) using an OBD11, VNCI or VCDS ?

  2. You can try a hard reset of both Telematics + MIB3 control units, by removing Fuses 19 & 30, leave it for couple of minutes then re-connect.

Good Luck

Cheers

Thank you for your answer.

I have check for errors, with ODB11, nothing at infotainment. Errors at Telematics existed. but it was from the screen turning off, they also went out of order at the same time. I'll check it again to see if they came back.

I removed fuse No. 30 for the MIB3 but not the telematics (No. 19). Good advice, I'll do it right away. Although I think the issue is on the screen.

update:

I pulled the fuses and after an hour I turned the electronics back on. Nothing different.

The screen has reached the following level:

It works, in the entire menu, normally, the sound is fine, the same with android auto. When the HOME button is pressed it gets stuck, and after 3 minutes it resets and starts a repeat process that ends, if I turn off the car, lock it and then get back in and start. Then it's OK.
I tried to reinstall version 1989. It sees the installation files, but it doesn't let me proceed, since it outputs No in every row of files, as it realizes that they are the same version. Is there a way to trick this?

@Giannis20 , I'm so sorry to hear that fuse trick didn't work for you.

Then you have a real hardware issue with the display unit, maybe try to clean it!

Good luck

What @Giannis20 is describing is what many people had after OTA update to 1989. Looks like it is not about O3A8 at all, or a combination of these two softwares creates the problem. I would bring it to Skoda and blame O3A8 anyway.

Hello,

still not found a solution. The last option is the dealer. I will set an appointment and i will inform you about the results.

I hope you will manage to fix this.

I did O3A8 few days ago, while car was turned off while updating and everything went great. I had to log in again, but most of the settings was pulled from my account. I only had to do some minor tweaks (like ambiental lighting for example, and home screen).

You can make OFFLINE update very easy. Buy a USB-C flash (I use this-SANDISK Ultra Dual Drive - 128GB - USB Stick) and download the update for your VIN:

https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/

Then just follow the instruction in the site how to create you USB-C disk for offline install. After finish, insert the the usb in the first usb port closer to gear selector, before driving and before starting the car. Then drive and leave the usb inserted for few days. You need about 2-3 hours of driving. Doesn't matter if you stop the car and go to eat suvlaki, drink beer or sleep. Just leave the stick inside for 2-3 days....it will upload automaticaly. Good luck, yamas!

After few days check again for updates...maybe a new one comes after the one you make. )

My 2024 skoda octavia went in to dealership last Tuesday told it needed a massive update that can take up to 8 hours to complete update failed no nothing works car still in dealership with 2 other skodas both failed updates.

I think skoda have a big problem.

What engine code and gearbox code you have? Is this the facelift after 2024, is it diesel? Thanks!

Hi guys,

I had the similar issue, as described here (Octavia 2021). I was able to solve it by myself.

How it all started?

  • I got notification on Monday that there is OTA 03A8 update that stated I should install it or some things might stop working in the future.

  • I downloaded it in the evening while driving, and after I parked my car and clicked Install

  • I waited 30 minutes but there was not any information that install is progressing.

  • I turned off ignition, left the car, locked

  • Then Unlocked, Ignition on, and Infotainment prompted me to login with my primary user account

  • After providing username and password, hell broke loose with my infotainment

Symptoms after update:

  • After loading primary user profile, Infotainment gets stuck, and cockpit starts shining as Christmas tree

  • Screen goes blank, but still on in the background

  • eSIM icon was offline

  • Force shut down, by extended holding of Power button doesn't help

  • Unplugging and plugging infotainment fuse doesn't help

  • Spent 1h trying to troubleshoot, but no luck

  • After 24 hours, eSIM icon changed from Offline to Online (Tuesday evening)

Workaround:

  • I've discovered that if you force restart the infotainment (extended holding of Power button) and quickly enter the Guest profile, Infotainment starts working properly

  • If you try to switch profile to primary owner, same issue above starts happening (so don't do it)

  • Deleted Primary profile (only guest remained)

Solution (in my case):

  • I suspect that my profile got corrupted on Skoda servers, so when it starts download to Infotainment, corruption starts

  • I used another email to create Skoda account, and signed into My Skoda app

  • I used new email to login to Skoda infotainment, and VOILA - no issues.

  • Infotainment worked perfectly since

  • But I have Remote Access paid until end of August 2026, so I didn't had access to my car via new My Skoda app with new email

  • Thankfully, when you choose and follow thru option to become primary user (via Infotainment + two keys need to be present in the car), exiting Remote Access subscription was transferred to new email.

  • Since, Tuesday evening, everything is working perfectly.

Hope it helps. Attached image shows info after fix.

I think skoda have a big problem.

Update car back today so far all working thay had to update all modules now running version 2630 from 2450 skoda spent weeks telling I was on latest software but like a dog with a bone I didn't let it go and now updated to the software version they said didn't exist.

The moral is don't take no for an answer argue with them as they will fob you off.

Your navigation maps are older version 24.7

The latest is 26.2 i think.

Thank you for the tip, the link is for navigation maps upgrade. I don't have navigation at my car. And i can't find any other update on this link.

This has happened to me also. The car was absolutely perfect until the recent OTA update.

Now the HOME screen freezes the infotainment. Long press reset it comes back but no audio. Have to turn the car off/on again for audio to be restored but HOME constantly causes issues and all options for aircon/heated seats disappear if you press home.

Also found today that using the pano roof controls can only be done once then it locks all buttons on the panel so cannot close pano roof or switch interior lights on/off. Again switching car off/on allows function to restore.

Booked in to the dealers in a few weeks for warranty investigation.

Exactly the same problem as mine. At least for the infotaiment. I don't have a pano roof.

I have an appointment on Monday for service and for this problem. Let's see what happens.

So, today I had the car serviced.

After I explained the problem with the infotainment and they looked into it, they informed me that the hardware needed to be changed. In fact, they told me that the screen didn't need to be changed, but the main MMI board that is behind the passenger compartment. They will report it to SKODA and wait for an answer about its replacement. It's the 2nd same problem they've seen, they told me.

Hi,

Today I dropped my car off at the dealership to have this problem fixed. They called me and told me they would replace the main unit of the infotainment system.

They actually did. I picked it up and they informed me that the replacement was done. There was no other way to fix the problem. Even though 2 years had passed (that's how long the warranty is in Greece) they told me that the entire cost was covered by them. After 3 years, however, I would have a problem.

I am sending 2 photos, before and after. you can see the differences in hardware and software. Newer hardware with older software version than what is available. It's 1969. Maybe 1989 would be appropriate, I don't know, I guess.

I do not chase the most recent software and stay on 1941 still. So far did not regret once, reading this forum I see people have many issues on newer versions which I don't. So if everything works, I'd say stay on 1969.
