Air conditioning

Featured Replies

Does anyone have any views on how often you should get your air conditioning re-gassed?

My car is 10 years old and is just as chilly as when I bought it. It's never been re-gassed and I have it on all the time (unless the windows are open).

We had the Fabia done after about 8nor 9 years, the Octavia done after about 9nyears and I've just done ethe Kodiaq at 8 years... All due to reduced cooling rather than anything else

I'm with the above opinions of get it done only if it needs doing. The wife's Octavia is 9 years old with 55k on the clock and has never been re-gassed, my Superb is 3 1/2 years old with 130k on it and also never been re-gassed, and on both cars the aircon is working great as has been shown in the recent heatwave temperatures of this past week.

I got my Superb done recently. As far as I know it’s the first one at 10 years and 130k miles.

My wife’s kodiaq doesn’t cool as well as mY superb now and that’s 5 years old with 45k miles. Will probably Get it regassed before our summer trip to France just to be sure.

Officially it’s every 2 years

SWMBO Focus went for 23 years before it needed to be regassed. The MKI Superb was a year old when we bought it in 06 and the AC didn’t work. Had it re-gassed and it was still fine when I sold it in ‘21. The 280 had a leak at the top joint of the condenser about 4 years ago so a year out of warranty, so it was re-gassed then. But 2nd borns 1 year old Hyundai Kona EV AC failed at 6 months and it was empty, so it was re-gassed a couple of months ago and it’s already failed again, so there has to be leak. He’s booked it in under warranty. Only a 10 week wait but only two more to go.

I had my '22 done last week, it seems better but in the heatwave I could barely feel the difference between a/c and no a/c. I tested mine with a meat thermometer, highly scientific, if you put a meat thermometer into a vent on full power a/c then after a few minutes it should be 6-10 degrees. Mine was 7 degrees, I did the same test with a/c off and it was about 19.

My Octavia needed regassing after 11 years a because the cooling was reduced.

At my 2 year service, my garage was extremely insistent that I paid €300 for a premium AC service...

I declined & I'll wait until I can feel the cooling striking in hot weather

Have a look on Groupon, they often have good deals for re-gassing at local garages

They do! £90 for the re-gas is good though. I ended up paying way more than that for the convenience of getting it done quick at my local VAG specialist.

I use mine more in winter for demist purposes, but it was the hot weather and lack of cooling that made me get it checked over at my regular garage. Iirc it was about 80 or 90 quid for checking over, regas (refrigerant was very low) and pressure test (good)

Last recorded Aircon service was August 2023.
