How Do You Park Your Car........

1....Handbrake Only?

3....Handbrake and in Gear.....Which Gear?

4....If in Gear, Do you rest it on the gears, then apply the Handbrake?

5....On a Hill, Do you turn the Wheels to the kerb?

6....Leave it in Full Lock or straighten the steering?

i normally park with just the handbrake on.. put if i'm on a slope i put it into gear as well.

Too many variables there Andy!

If I have had a blast, I don't put the handbrake on for fear of warping disks.

I don't use it in winter much, so the brakes don't ice up and stick on.

If the wifes going to drive it next I always leave it out of gear ( she once demolished our porch in my 2 day old polo!)

I could go on, but I'm sure you get my drift:D

Depends on a few things, but generally with just the handbrake. If on a big slope I will also leave the car in 1st gear. I also just leave the wheels pointing straight ahead. If parallel parked along the kerb I make sure the wheels are straight, and fold the mirror in. I dont want some **** passing close to the car and taking the wheel with them along with the mirror.

Leave it in the last gear i was in , either being reverse or 1st usually with the handbrake on, and definatly flipping the raodside mirror in.

Car park parking i only park on a end space or a space with a post by it. less chance of getting door dents.

Girlfriends screws at me as it take 30 mins to park the car, waiting or looking for an end space.

Hand brake and in gear.

2nd gear when pointing down hill and 1st uphill.

I spent a number of years in Germany where it is an offense to leave your car out of gear or it was when i was there.

Handbrake only, unless I get my usual safe spot at work which is on a slop then I put it in gear aswell. I'm also anal about where I park, if I have to park close to others I pick other new cars in the hope that they are as anal as me and so will be careful when opening their doors

I left my car in a car park to go over to southampton the other day. A mother in her chelsea tractor decided it would be a good idea to squeeze in next to me. she could hardly get out of her vehicle, but it was a combination of her size aswell as not having enough room to open her door properly. I had to check my car on return because I was just looking too suspicious by not walking off straight away after parking.:)

Handbrake and in gear, reverse if pointing downhill, first if pointing uphill, either first or reverse if parked on the level.

On trackdays, just in gear no handbrake

handbrake and whatever gear I leave it in if I forget to take it out, unless I'm on a hill when I leave it in first or reverse with the wheels pointing towards the kerb.

handbrake and first gear, regardless of the car or road slope etc.

Handbrake and 3rd gear, always. And I don't know why I use 3rd instead of 1st. Is 1st gear better actually?

Usually 1st gear, no handbrake.

If on a hill, 1st gear and handbrake.

If parallel parked, 1st gear, wheels straight and outside mirror folded.

If on hill and parallel parked, wheel turned to the kerb, 1st gear, handbrake and mirror folded in.

If trying to impress and have time to position the car, one turn of the wheel so the wheel is at an angle and the Skoda badge is upright on the steering wheel.

I've just realised how bad that all sounds. I really do need to get out more and care less about my cars.:o

I used to leave it with handbarake on and in 5th gear. I did this cos If someone tried to steal it I thought if I left it in 5th they wouldn't have a quick getaway or even if they were really dumb they would not get away at all.

in my first car I used to pull the seat as far as it did forward and tilted it towards the steerring wheel, again to slow down the intruders or even put them off breaking in. I had some strange thoughts, makes me giggle now.

I Put it in "P" and use a light handbrake

I was taught to use 1st for uphill and reverse for downhill, but a little (worrying!) experiment in my Micra proved that reverse didn't actually hold the car when the handbrake was released!

Chris

Hmm, good one.

Outside my flat is usually just a handbrake, i'd rather the car "gave" slightly and moved when someone tries to park a clio by touch...

On hills its handbrake and 1st, wheels turned to the kerb.

Auto boxes- park and handbrake

What format do the handbrakes take on your skoda?

my BMW has a drum built into the disk and only uses the shoes for handbrake duties, and pads on the rear discs for braking?

just interested to know, thanks!

IIRC, they just use the rear discs for the handbrake.

Cool, thanks:D

Handbrake & first/ reverse

In gear with hand brake on. If on a hill I add a bit of appropriate lock, should handbrake fail and gear not hold, at least that

Handbrake and in 1st gear, whether on the flat or up a hill. Usually leave the steering straight ahead with the Skoda badge the right way up on the steering wheel.

i normally park with just the handbrake on.. but if i'm on a slope i put it into gear as well.

Same here.

Just handbrake. I'll do no harm to the brakes in my slow Skoda Diesel :D

that's the setup that mercedez use on most of the models, the rear disc has a kind of drum in the centre and the shoes are only used for the hardbrake.
