The fsi doesn't run out of puff. It also sounds better the harder you rev it.. Also, it pulls cleanly from 2k, right through to 7k, with a noticable increase in pull at 4500k.

I have a mapped/modded Fabia Vrs too, so don't think i'm biased.

I'd have to agree with Shifty, it has no problems revving. One really noticable thing is the pull onch you change up at that point, no offence to Mk1 but there was a lot of lag, big difference in mk2.

Yes. But last time I mentioned heated seats in a VRS someone here said you could have them if you took the leather option. Hence being confused; Skoda say one thing, Briskoda said another!

Sorry if my earlier post was confusing. You can NOT have heated seat's on a vRS - when I ordered my last vRS I wanted them, the dealer added them to the order but they were deleted by Skoda.

My comment about only being available with leather, was taken straight from the price list - although I now note that is under Elegance Spec options.

I could have sworn my dealer had them on one he got....I actually seen the car. I could double check with him if you want.

My current Furby 140bhp vRS revs freely beyond 5K.

From what I remember the Fabia VRS "redlines" at 4.5k..... surely if you took it past 5k it would go into "limp mode"............ even my old remapped Fabia VRS started to tail off at around the 4K mark :confused:

At the end of the day, if petrol was free or cost next to nothing would derv engines even be around in the modern car? I doubt it........ petrol engines have always been recognised as being the quickest/best performing.

Why have derv engines come such a long way, and been developed so much over the past decade.... simple economics due to the continuious rise in the price of oil and fuel duty, if the same investment had been made in the development of petrol engines god knows what they would be capable of :eek:

Ah - that explains it. I'm easily confused I'm afraid - lead to my departure from both the international spork-fighting circuit and the World Zeppelin F1 championships. Long story.

That being the important bit, a gear change costs you some time and therfore some distance. I didn't say you wouldn't catch it, i just said there would be some space between the derv and the petrol if the petrol one was in the wrong gear, such that they would have to catch up from behind.

I'm not saying either is better, i like diesels, you don't thats fine, they are different strokes :)

A standard Saxo VTS is booked at 7.5 seconds to 60. that will leave yours, and a Diesel vrs quite firmly behind I believe. ;)

I don't think so. Figures in Autocar quote it as 8.3 secs. That's if it doesn't fall apart first.:)

As for the rest of the thread - I think it has to do with what's already been mentioned here. Diesel power seems to come in one big lump making them feel quicker than they actually are.

Just spoke to Ross at Mitchells re the TDi, he's just had there demo TDi vRS for the last couple of days. His opinion ?? - if you want a diesel, buy an elegance and then have it chipped if you really want the extra power.

He said having driven both, he would take the petrol hands down, and the economy wasnt that great either only about 8-10mpg better!!!

So I have decided that I'll be having a 2.0TFSi vRS - and use the money saved for some accesories :)

I drove to Weymouth and back last night - around 170 miles round trip.

Outbound, medium traffic - 39.4 mpg on arrival.

Inbound, quiet traffic and spirited driving - 36.4 mpg arrival.

Precisely PLUS residuals are being projected at the same as the petrol (ref LEX free choice website.

So what can we conclude...people who choose the diesel like;

1. Paying out more money

2. A slower car, but don't worry it has the feeling of being fast

3. More noise

4. More smell

Free world, take your pick.

Well here is my 2p worth for what it's worth. Just had a test run in a new Tdi vrs admitedly only 350 miles on it) taken over the same route I allways use. The Tdi is very poor bellow 2000 rpm above 2000 rpm I didn't feel it was that much better than the furby (it was quiker but not much) and compared to the petrol I would say the petrol was better and you have to change bellow 4 - 4,500 instead of somewhere above 5,500. The deisal in gear in sixth travelling uphill certainly did not have as much urge/acceleration as the petrol. As for putting your foot down in the diesal whilst the petrol is left hunting for a gear, I can assure you it is the other way round, bellow 2000rpm the thing is slow, again on the motorway swmbo driving travelling uphill got stuck in traffic at about 50 and felt she had to change down from 6th to pull confidently into outside lane, something she as never had to do in the petrol. Have to be honest I was expecting a real belt in the back on acceleration above 1900 rpm (like an old saab :))but it never happened, to sum up then compared to the petrol its is slow, bogs down bellow 2000rpm, and doesn't even seem to have the urge in gear above 2000 rpm. I can't really comment on the economy but the instant display figure was porbably about a quarter to a third better than the petrol. If I had not driven the petrol I would have been happy to buy the diesal as it is still a good car, but I am not diassapointed that I didn't wait, because if I think I would still have bought the petrol, the fuel saving imo does not outweigh the higher price and poorer performance, shame cos 28mpg is crippling me :rofl:

I don't think anyone is saying its a bad car, just not sufficiently better than the petrol to cover the extra cost.

If someone is doing a massive mileage in a year, they would be better off with an Elegance -- even a Skoda salesman admitted this. Anyone not doing loads of miles doesnt need the extra economy - so why have less power ??

Thank god for that...I thought I'd a bad memory so doubled checked with dealer here just in case :D , I sent him an email (also asked about unregistered car)
