Dad told me that the insurance was cheaper on a van (that was crap) 4 years old with 18k, went through one manifold 3 gearboxes before a bus took the front off at 23k. Not all bad though, Insurance gave me

My dad nearly bought one of them - the were called the Lada Riva over here in the UK.

I was glad he didn't

I drove my Dads Lada Riva until i managed to write it off and then, after taking a break from driving for a bit, i got my first Escort, which was an E-reg Mk4.

Was driving my mums 306 TD and then i got my 1.4 Clio Maxim

Did get me licence till 22 so wasn't "driving" anything at 18. Was travelling on the train a lot. Ahh... public transport... :irked:

Now have a '71 mini clubman. Love him to bits. Gonna miss him if I move to the UK. :(

Move him over here, just make sure you get the wood treated before you do.

A 1974 Mini 1275 gt in burgundy with matching interior!!:o

What's embarrassing about that - the 1275 was great and is far more fun that most modern day cars

Anyway, I was driving a 1958 Morris Minor Covertible when I was 18, which I still own. ... and no I'm not that old but it was cheap reliable motoring :P :D

I didnt pass my test until i was 19. The 1st car i got was a Daewoo Matiz. Had it for 6 months before deciding to get something a bit faster MK3 Golf 1.8 . :)

In those days I only had a license for motorbikes. Two years later my father passed away. With my fresh license I took over his car:

You're welcome to identify it!

A beat up old used Lada, which was the fore runner to the Riva. But as it was my first car, I loved her.

I had to part with her, when the bottoms of all four of the doors rusted a way and started to drop off. Always problems with timing chain, bad starting in wet weather, and bad electricals.

Soviet(said I would answer)

My First car was a 1975 Cortina 2000E. Silver with a Black Vinyl roof and wood trim inside. I loved that car despite all the usual foibles, such as it's unerring ability to lose it's grip on the planet every time it got slightly cold in the winter. Was a good conversation piece as a lowly student having one of those.

I still had pangs of nostaligia after watching Life on Mars, but I won't get into the usual arguments about that one being a hybrid ;-)

My first car was Ford Escort XR3i modified by Wolf (in Germany) 1.8 16V DOHC ...after all modification ... 164 BHP but I bought it after that mods.

1 litre Nova(paid

I red mk 2 fiesta I think? it was A reg anyway, webbers on it too, went quite well.

When I changed it, it was used for auto testing and it never broke!!!

I was in an F Reg White vauxhall Nova (A Shape)

Running a 110bhp 1.2 8v

Seriously it was my dads development rally engine with a 4 branch manifold, no cat, 2" exhaust, one off reprofiled cams, oversized carb, ported and polished head, etc etc

Loved every second of that car! Until it was broken into :(

At 17 i had a 1977 skoda 105s, in a mucky custard colour. 1046cc and as it was one of the first estelles it was on skinny 14"rims and 145/80/13 tyres. wobbled about all over ontil i dropped it onto 13s with 175/60s . it turned out to be the best car i have ever owned, My mates all had mk2 eccies, tinas, capris and minis and i was the who always ended up towing them out of ditches and muddy fields

it was on skinny 14"rims and 145/80/13 tyres.

 13" tyres on 14" rims  No wonder it wobbled :D
