Bump for this as I kind of totally forgot about it....as such I am not booked...who is booked?

Umm kind of tempted as it's a good laugh, but for the single fact the good laugh is not enough, I want to see the classics at each venue. Not just the first...

That said I am tempted, but not solo owing to distance on return leg.

Q and N are booked aswell.

These venues are cracking aswell, the late sumer tour was pants in comparison....

So what happened to the rest of you I ask

Its called money, and other priorities ;)

Well another grand day out - much enjoyment. The weather held, just. Prescott was fun if a little greasy (it had been raining). Castle Combe was huge fun. Bowood was challenging and good for scaring passengers, Keevil was, well, an airfield. Then back to Castle Combe for a few more laps - shame we got cut down from the planned 6 to only four, but good fun again. Quite impressed with the Kumhos round Castle Combe, let me hold much tighter lines than some folk in front. Thanks to Q for some splendid professional quality map-reading, nice to see Stuart, Wendy and Owen again, and Pete and John S who came along to spectate.

There are a few pictures here. Many thanks to Pete who took all the shots featuring Stuart or myself. Cheers mate

See you in the summer.

Oops! , sorry about the quality (what quality) of the photos Nick , didn't know how to work the zoom until Castle Combe , and then they were still carp ..........perhaps I should go on a photography course (beginners!)....but I did warn you that I wasn't good with a camera ;)

Sorry I didn't make your 2nd trip to Castle Combe , and apologies to you , Q , Stuart , Wendy , and Stuart jnr , for not actually saying goodbye ...........spectating isn't quite as much fun as competing !

Would have been good to see you guys blasting round Castle Combe, however when I turned up I asked a guy with a bonnet up (not a Skoda) did he had a good day? that was a mistake he said his car had an oil leak and he needed to get to Swindon to pickup a car trailer so of I went to take him to Swindon - when I returned the event was finished

thats my good turn for the year done

John

Hope you had a good day peeps :)

I was planning to come and take some pics, but i was too knackered After driving down to Jabba & back yesterday.

Another great day out, another well organised "not too serious" event by RPM, great to see those who turned out & I think we put on a reosnable show for Skoda & thanks to whoever organised to greasy slippery conditions to test the 4x4 !!!!!!, they even had some mud on the rally stage at Bowood.

Cant make the next tour but Simon might do a third this year & if that comes off I think its going to be a cracker !!

John, is it the owner of the Frogite (spelling ??) sprite you helped, if yes that was some oil leak judging by the black lake under the car, what had he done !!

Nick, have PM'd you the tel No

Stuart

Am saving up hard earned pennies now to do some driving myself in the late summer one as this one was again a bit hoot! Most scary moment was the 2nd run of the rally stage in Bowood when Nick clipped the grass verge in a poor attempt to do a bit off off-roading ;). Glad he kept it on the road though as I didn't fancy becoming close and personal with the stack of wood parked right next to the road...

A big thanks to Nick for having me as dead weight in the passenger seat !

I believe it was it was a greenish looking car that looked a bit British Leyland looking, definately not a Skoda  , he siad he managed to complete castle combe, and the problem occured at the finish line, no damage to engine but didn't have the tools to repair on site.

John

Yep, That sounds like the frogite

"Frogeye" Sprite - so called because of the headlamps which stick up out of the bonnet like frogs' eyes. They had to be moved from the wings to meet US regulations concerning height from the road.

Here's a pic at the late summer tour - green Frogeye centre, between the Daimler Dart and the Spitfire. Quite possibly the same one.

I believe it was it was a greenish looking car that looked a bit British Leyland looking,

Austin Healey Sprites after the "Frogeye" are basically the same car as MG Midgets (and look very similar) - hence the term "Spridgets" used by people to refer to all of them. They all used the redoubtable "A" series engine (as used in Morris Minors, Minis etc etc) and the chassis for the Sprite and Midget was almost identical. Reminds me that my Dad has still got a Sprite mark 2 sitting in a barn waiting to be restored - we intended to do that ...... ooooh about 10 years ago

I think the purists all thought the Sprite had the slight edge over the Midget, n'est ce pas, Stu?

Was going to buy such a toy a couple of years ago - ended up with some big German beast - still can't quite work out how that happened ... :rubchin:

I think the purists all thought the Sprite had the slight edge over the Midget, n'est ce pas, Stu?

The Frogeye definitely has greater desirability but the later Sprites and early Midgets (i.e. pre-horrible Yank required rubber bumpers :thumbdwn: ) are much of a muchness. Personally I think the only real reason Sprites are worth more than Midgets is that there are fewer Sprites and "Austin Healey" sounds better/rarer than the "MG" .... and the Sprite has a nicer grill! My younger brother had a Midget and in most mechanical areas it was very similar to the Sprite we have got - they were both green with black hoods and from the side they were almost impossible to distinguish. The intereior of the Sprite we have got is definitely nicer as well .... black leather with white piping ....mmmmm  . They are both great cars though - fun motoring, great sounds and because you are virtually sitting on the ground you feel like you are going a lot quicker than you actually are.

... and because you are virtually sitting on the ground you feel like you are going a lot quicker than you actually are.

A fact that used to be brought home to me in the passenger seat of my mate's BRG Midget (often with the future Mrs Nick sat on my lap) as we sped along ....

... watching the road through the floor
