National Briskoda Trackday

Featured Replies

Maybe sticking my neck out here, but it is a day for members (and some friends of members), not for Skoda drivers per se.

Nail, hit, head...

I think it's already been stated as a "Briskoda" day, whatever members drive.

My concern is if those who have been supporting the event all along are gazumped by people jumping on the bandwagon.

My concern is a lot of brave words followed by a lack of bookings

The list doesn't reach 70 yet, and contains several "spectators" and "maybe's". And this is after a month of pushing and pimping the day in all sorts. I don't think we have to worry for now about rogue 'members'.

I couldn't have put it more elegantly.

Yes you could, but the sentiment was clear

Oh and I've got a guy who works with me who'd like to come along :D

A fair point Jon.

I know the usual suspects will be there, but this is the precise reason we need the link up, once cash is parted with its harder to back out ;)

Think you can count me in. This will be my first time so please be nice. I take it I will need a helmet. Whats the score with track day insurance cover.

What about 2 seperate posts detailing who wishes to watch and who wants to drive?

Do spectators have to pay some fee?

If it's just at the gate then it doesn't really matter that there is a separate list. Also in this vein there should be no spectators on the list being presently compiled as we're trying to get numbers for those who want to go on the track.

IMHO of course. ;)

Regarding helmets I'll be revisiting the Skid Lid group buy shortly so check out the group buy section.

Ok then how about a more streamlined thread so people can get an idea of what is going on with out having to wade through 20+ pages (IMHO of course)

 Agreed.

One of the "Master Jedi" level Mods should perhaps do a little editing on this thread.

I on the other hand only being a mere "Pad Wan" level do not have such awe inspiring powers required to carry out the task. ;)

Adrian , spectators I would assume don't pay , only people who are going on track to actually pay . I think as the list currently stands , there are a few who are coming as spectators only , this needs to be clarified , but when it comes to "Pay up " time we may find we are a few short of our target ;)

I hope to be proved wrong .

Question. Some of my mates are thinking of coming alone to the meet to see the ation. If they wanted passenger rides would they need their own helmets? I'm I alowed more then 1 passenger?

If we are short of numbers, there are several options for filling the spaces.

1) Other boards for similar cars, possibly of Spanish origin ;)

2) Friends of the non-VAG owning persuassion

I'm sure it won't be opened to the great unwashed, as this is meant to be a meet for board members and their friends.

I still can't believe that out of 1800+ members we can't find 70 people for this.

I do think though people may be put off because it's a trackday per se, which they think means hooning around and potentially damaging their car. That's understandable.

Someone like to try and put something together to describe what's it all about and the format of the day?

Spectators are free to come and go as they please. No need to register, no need for list, not even the need to be a member.

This thread is to get a list together (and initially to gauge interest in) for the trackday side of things. To quote the first post:

Phew' date=' I think we're finally there just need to dot a few I's and cross a few legs/fingers.

Briskoda proudly presents the first (of hopefully many) National Briskoda Trackday.

The venue will be Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground (see link) [url']http://www.bruntingthorpe.com/[/url]

The date is April 24th. /EDIT REVISED DATE. 24th APRIL 2004 (Saturday)

Cost will be £90 per car (Driver and passenger). Payment details to follow.

We will have exclusive use of the FULL track + the small handling course which is loads of fun and all under an instructors watchful eye.

The price includes 3 on site instructors for anyone who wishes it. These guys will sit in your car as a passenger and show/instruct on the best possible way of getting the most out of your car and the track.

There will be a half hour driver briefing of do's and don'ts, anyone found to be flaunting the rules will not be allowed back on the track, NO REFUNDS. This is out of our control, you have been warned.

Qualified marshals will be dotted around the track, Braking, turn in, apex and exit points will be clearly marked by cones. There's even a burger van for Mr. Ffelen

Please note that this is not just a trackday but a national meet so spectators are very welcome. We will be running in sessions so even the track newbie's amongst us can feel safe, you can even have your own instructor. If you've never been on a track before this is an absolute must do.

First and foremost I need a list of definites so cut and paste as you go.

Any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

If we don't reach enough numbers then I believe Colin has some alternatives, which I guess will be very much in line with what Jon has already mentioned.

64 without the maybe's/speccy's

to make up the dosh of 70 people we would need to pay another 7squid each? I aint that fussed about another seven squid and it may not come to that....what is a prob is that no one knows if any on the list realy are definate  65 could turn into 40 pretty quickly then there would be a problem. I think that a deposit should be paid so that we(you) have a propper head count and some commitment...

or how about charging a quid or two to get in? could cause problems. How about phoning Skoda UK and asking for the sponsorship as thanks for raising the brand image :D

one of the things that attracted me to the bruntingthorpe do was that it was a Briskoda Track day which would eliminate the Chav/barryboy/ned elliment, I do not meen that I don't wish any other car brands to be present as the likes of Si Horten et al add a lot to the forum and would also add to the entertainment on track, I am also looking forward to seeing PuffTheMagicWagon as I think, if I remember rightly, it was the scoob wagon that kicked **** in the 1/4 mile event on scooby net, but I could be wrong, and if the track prep Xr2 that is listed is the one from "rally day" at castle coombe then sit back and watch as I saw this tearing EVo's apart lap after lap. So what I am saying is that it would be nice if the non skoda cars were from the forum or from invitation(if that makes any sense) as i feel that opening the "national Meet" up to other forums could bring in the riff raff ( :D I am kinda half joking there but you get my point).

But at the end of the day I would rather have anyone there and be there myself as oposed to no one being there.

I would expect 64 to become 50 very quickly these things always do....

personally I think we mightbe better paying more say 110 each and limiting the number of cars... so we each get more track time... or open it up to other users. as for attracting boy racers..... they wont come they cant afford the fuel to get to track nevermind the fee for the day.

All the people who worry about these things are just being naive. Complete muppets dont do track.. they do B+Q/McD's. Remember the lower the cost the more likely the unworthy track driver is to attend. Hence they prefer drag events at 25 quid.

What was your 1/4 mile time Paul? :D

Hold on a minute here. The trackday is for all drivers big or small, fast or slow, as long as they are members, or friends of members. The whole point of this day is to let people get a feel of what their car can do in the safe surroundings of the track. IT IS NOT A RACE!

who said it was a race? i think the point raised was someone not wanting muppets with poor "cruise" style driving standards? unless we are having a burnout competition as well?

erm, what both of you say :D

Q, yes it will be a fully supervised day with instructors should you wish to have a little help/tution and no racing.

Paul, yes, McD's and drag strips very different from what we are doing here.

Uncrossing wires this should be a great day. We are potentialyl looking at other invites, but they are just that invites. Other marques are welcome as it has always been a "briskoda" day and not a one marque day. Trust me this makes for a better day...it really isa bit dull looking at one marque all day long...sadly I have not managed to get hold of the funny cars assoc or NASCAR...but a few Seats and Scoobs / other people that we know and invite...

As to numbers, again perception of tracks and damage, I have done more damage to my car on road runs than any track day, I believe that will always be the case.

You can see for miles, nothing is coming the other way, very unlikly you'll find a tree or oil on the line to slip on...

So grab a lid and signup...Link is coming very soon btw.

Well said Col!

the only person you are against on the track is yourself.... makeing each lap better than the last... and not just in time... lines / smoothess... the time is a byproduct.

And the day on Trac Mon prooved that...I was pig slow in the morning, all over the place, a few laps later from the masters Jon and Paul helped me learn alot...was beginning to get it smoother and quicker towards the end of the day...the odd thing was that felt safer than early attempts...wasa very rewarding day, taking most of what I learnt right onto the road, knowing what the car could do should it need to be done...

I realyl cannot extoll the benefits of driver training / trac kday work, it really is a bargin of a day to learn so much.

Oh you might get to meet Q aswell :D
