Just wondering how people have come to driving thier current car.. do you try and get a better car each time, or is it mixed? I'd also like to know if anyone changes thier car as often as I do :D

For me..

'97 Fiesta mk4 1.4 ghia. Learnt to drive in it. My mum still has it.

'95 Kia Mentor 1.6. First car that was mine. Rather special just for that. Wrote it off. My one and only crash :(

'94 Orion Ghia 1.8. First modded car. I thought it was pretty quick at the time :D

'91 BMW 525i Sport. Loved this car. Unfortunatly my wallet didn't. 22mpg was not good. 200BHP and RWD was amazing though!

'97 Escort estate diesel. A minor blip, bought purely for economic reasons

'97 Nissan Almera GTi. Longest I've kept a car for (1 year 2 months). Loved it. No towbar and not much space so it had to go :(

'97 Mitsubishi Legnum VR4 (import). 280BHP, 4WD, lots of toys. Too many electronics make it fairly boring to drive.

Awaiting delivery of a fabia vRS special edition. First brand new car and quite a depearture from what I've had before. But I loved the test drive I had and can't wait!

I'm 22, and been driving for just over 5 years. I think I get bored easily :D

Can you remember what the Dolomite Sprint was like? Ive always quite fancied one of those , you can get a good one for around £4K now......Ps on topic , I only ever go 'backwards' with my cars for financial reasons , somethimes I bite off more than I can chew , money wise , and cannot keep the car for as long as I would like! I have to say that if I wasnt skint I would be out of my current Fabia ASAP , not that its a bad car per se , but its not very sporty!!

I've only ever managed to keep one car for more than two years, even then it was only by a few months. Usually get car changing urges after about a year, but the only thing I can think to replace the Octy with is another Octy and I'm still not sure about the MK2.

Pretty long but thats only the cars i kept for more than a few weeks

I've had a licence for 23 years, but only ever owned 3 cars, all bought as "the best car available for my requirements at the time, that I could afford":-

1995 Citroen ZX - Never went wrong, but was eventually rolled, and even then I could have walked away (but the ambulance that the doctor who stopped insisted on calling made that unnecessary).

1997 Citroen Xantia - Never went wrong, until the cambelt tensioner failed and repairs would cost more than it was worth.

2002 Octavia - see left.

2003(?) Ford Focus

:)

Wow Ken, and I thought I was conservative with my four cars in 13 years:

1985/B Nissan Cherry 1.3 SGL. My first car in 1994. Steaming heap of ****e, but it's all I could afford at the time. Did me for three years and I only had to change the engine once

1993/K Rover 416 Sli (Honda engine/gearbox). Old man's car it may have been, but it was solid, reliable and comfortable. Did me for five years, and five years after that it's still going strong and looking immaculate; I see it every day. Didn't let me down until the steering rack started disintegrating just before I chopped it in for:

2002/02 Skoda Octavia RS. Nuff said. Still got it and it still makes me smile

2006/56 VW Passat 2.0TDI Sport estate. This makes me smile too.

Skoda Octavia vRS

My new beastie - 180bhp as standard, half-leather, climate control, etc, etc.

Lovely car, power, 5 doors, massive boot and good mpg - ticks all the boxes.

Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec - W778JSF - Sold!

115 heaving horses under the bonnet! Fitted with climate pack which includes heated front screen - nice in a Scottish winter!

Volkswagen Golf VR6 - R631FGG - Sold!

Owned this for 3 months. Needed a fair wee bit of work doing to it so I decided to get rid and buy something sensible for a while (see above).

Honda Accord 2.0LS Coupe - N414HCS - Sold!

A 1996 model with only 2 previous owners - Scottish Ambulance Service and 1 private. Low mileage (63,500 although i'm sure I'll add to that quickly) very clean and nice and comfortable for the daily slog.

Peugeot 405GRD 1.9 Diesel - G761PKS - SOLD

Bought as a daily driver this lasted 2 months but I did 4,500 miles in that time! Started first time every morning over the winter and although a bit rough round the edges was a nice little runabout. Bought and sold for the same amount so basically 2 months free motring.

Honda Prelude 2.2 VTEC - P493HMS - SOLD

A UK model registered in September 1996, this must have been one of the last 4th Generation Preludes as the 5th Generations were introduced in September 1996. Very fast, fun, beautiful and with Honda reliability!

Mitsubishi Shogun 2.8 Turbodiesel LWB - Blue - P116HSL - SOLD

A real beauty. This thing would go anywhere and was very comfortable, (I even slept in it a couple of times - fold down seats to make a bed). Main problems where 24mpg on diesel and parking it around Edinburgh. Still miss it!

MG BGT - Orange - NPD348L - SOLD

My second MGB and my favourite. Registered in 1972, this car was fully restored in 1990 with new bodywork, a new engine and new interior. I bought her from a guy in Leicester in 1999 and enjoyed driving her and learning the basics of car mechanics.

Vauxhall Cavalier 2.0 16V LS - Green Metallic - M354TBM - SOLD

Not too much info on this one, completely standard. Bought 3 years old with 19,000 miles on the clock, sold 2 years later with 69,000 miles on it.

Vauxhall Astravan 1.7D - White - G717ECS - SOLD

I spent a year as a self-employed car valeter and this was my workhorse! I was very proud when it was liveried up and it looked cool with a set of Astra GTE alloys.

MG Metro - White - D483YSX - SOLD

As MG Metros go, this one was in very good condition having being restored bodily before I bought it. It was just a pity that the engine was knackered! I spent all the money saved from the sale of my first MGB on a reconditioned engine and gearbox.

MG BGT - Red - YGB9S - SOLD

My first introduction to the world of classic MGs. A wee bit rough, but very good fun and could still turn heads.

Ford Fiesta XR2 Mk2 - White - B333JSX - SOLD

One of the first Mark 2 XR2s, registered in 1985 on a 'B' plate. I used to go to car shows with the XR Owners club in this, and remember trying to gloss up the black bodykit without getting any on the gleaming white paintwork - not easy!

Vauxhall Cavalier SRI Mk2 - Red Metallic - A511WUS - SOLD

I bought this car from the motor auctions. For a 21 year-old it was a very fast car, but when you tried to slow down the whole thing shook to bits! The legacy of being in a big smash before I bought it and then tarted up. You learn from your mistakes.

Mini 1000 - Brown - DFS769S - SOLD

No photos of this one i'm afraid. Bought this for £100 when I was a student the first year the government introduced student loans! It was brown with a new wing on the right-front that never got sprayed! I did fit bonnet straps and a decal numberplate on the bonnet. Used to sit at 90 on the motorway (v.noisy).

Vauxhall Chevette - Orange - TDS842W - SOLD

Bought from my sister for £400, sold to my dad a year later for £550! (I did do a lot of work on it). Fitted 2 new front wings, fixed rust in the doors, fitted a cheapo stereo with a 50watt booster and second-hand speakers from the bargain bucket in Currys :o)

Mini 850 - Blue - RMS291M - SOLD

My first Mini, bought for £300, driven for 8 months then sold for £290. My first lesson in car buying, do not buy at night! I awoke the next morning to find I had just bought Fred Flintstone's car judging by the lack of floor.

Talbot Horizon - Gold - GSG641T - SOLD

My first car. Bought from my dad for £100. Later sold to an ex-schoolmate for £200. It was gold with chrome 8-spoke wheels and brown velour upholstery, classy! It actually passed an MoT under my ownership, rusted to bits.

I forgot about "the Shed" - a Renault 19 (M-reg) that I only bought cos it was cheaper than renting for 4 weeks until I could get to some showrooms after the Xantia died.

I think this question has been asked before , but I'll list mine again anyways...

The Future?....who knows!

Had over 40 cars in my 11 years of driving and no way I can remember them all ;)

The first one was a 1.0 HLE Metro ;)

Last few have been TD Mondeo [written off], MErc 190e 2.5 Cossie, Vectra SRi 150 then the Fabia :)

1975 -1977 Honda CB 125 motorcycle, repaired and gifted away after collision with

vehicle executing right turing across path at traffic lights! Driver prosecuted.

1979 -1980 Alfa Sud 1.2 - written off after spinning, following rear -end impact by jag backing-out of drive. Impacted roadside stink pipe, which broke off and crashed down onto roof , pre - compulsory seat belts left head imprint in laminated screen !

1981- 1995 VW Golf N 1093 - Nearly written off when 38 tonner made side impact on Hangar Lane Giratory system, subsequently rear-ended by L- driver, necessitating replacement of rear wing, clutch cable assembly made a visit into driver's footwell, but survived all this to disappear on a low-loader to the scarp yard.

2003 - to date Fabia 1.4 16v, windscreen cracked, tree branch fell on nearside rear wing , ARB replaced ('06)
