shell v-power?

Featured Replies

Has anybody used this fuel on there car?ive just put some in my vrs today its a bit expensive at 97p per ltr but ive heard its good do you get more power and more mpg out of it??

yes, and yes (in my experience) in my Lupo

it hated running on 95 ron

I use it all the time and I'd say there is a slight difference in how 'sprightly' the car feels. Also, the car runs smoother on it, the engine seems less lumpy when standing at the lights. As for MPG, I really couldn't say if there is any improvement.

It can't do the car any harm using the good stuff in my opinion, it's just a tad more heavy on the wallet.

Mind you, I'm no expert and it could all be in my head.:P

i tried it ,drove the same distance to and from work i got 335 mls till the light came on, got the same using normal unleaded ,it did run better on the good stuff though ,I'm trying Sainsbury's 97 Ron at the mo it seems to run just as good on it as the shell v max its cheaper too !!!!

i had it in my vrs and it hated it. lumpy tickover, loss of power (not much but noticable) got the same mpg tho.

Odd! Maybe an old batch?

I was using tescos 97 ron stuff that sems ok aswell.

I've used standard 95 RON and BP Ultimate, not noticed any differences TBH.

im using v-power now and there is a diffrence,it runs like a DOG on 95 the 99ron v-power is much better, smother and more power, mines chipped etc so i guess id see more gains the a normal RS but i stay away from 95,its S**te!!!!

The V-Power in Ireland is only 95orn, not the super charged stuff in the UK. Its something to do with the extra taxation on the 97+ron in Ireland (It would cost over

I like v power too, but tesco's have 99 octane much cheaper. plus you get club card points, and my vrs seems to like it as well.

I use the better stuff not because it makes anything faster or more MPG but because when I use anything else the recirculater pump goes none stop! TICK TICK TICK TICK but on the good stuff its sporodic.

V-Power is the fay forward

It takes a couple of tanks for it to run through the system but there is a more than noticeable difference.

When i got mine i changed the air filter a green panel filter and started using Optimax as it was called and it was like a new car only after a few weeks.

Been running it on V-Power since as the difference is price isnt worth worrying over IMO

Hey, I thought about putting some decent fuel such as this in my VRS. Question though - As my car has been custom remapped (by Jabbasport) based on the tank of BP 95 RON that was in it, will putting anything other than 95 RON actually prove to be a negative move ??

You should still see something. My ex Octy mk1 vRS was jabba mapped to around 215BHP on normal sainsburys 95ron. Run really well on 95ron as it was mapped that way. Only a slight improvement was evident when switched to better fuel, an improvement yes, but not really enough to justify the increased price. I just went back to 95ron, and always run it on that for 4 years.

Wont run anything else in the MR2. A very noticable difference from Tesco 99RON or BP Ultimate, which is in turn noticably better than the normal 95RON stuff. The engine partly self tunes via the on board anti knock detector, but I am having the car mapped to make maximum use of the extended anti knock properties in a few weeks.

Makes sense to me thanks. 95 RON it is then I guess. Just to naff many people off, I have a company fuel card which pays for all my fuel and oil (personal and business), and I currently do about 1,000 business miles a year. Therefore, the price doesn't bother me too much  Sorry to rub it :D:D:D:D

I ran 97(Shell optimax and bp ultimate) and 99(tesco) ron on my lupo sport and was a definite improvement in performance, i can't say it helped mpg as was abusing my cars redline to reap the benefits.

Ive only tried bp ultimate diesel in my fab vrs and not noticed any differences in performance really but better mpg. I've read somewhere (maybe shell website) that v-power is new and not at many garages yet, not near me anyway so not tried it. None of the 'upmarket' diesels such as v-power or bp ultimate mention performance gains when i looked, just the extra fuel economy. I'd rather have the extra performance!

When I first got my vRS I ran it on 95 ron from lots of different sources for the first 6 months and got about 31mpg. I then switched to Optimax and after a few tank fulls my mpg went upto 34mpg and I got a bit more mid range punch.

I've been running it on Optimax/V-power ever since as I have been able to justify the 7p/litre higher price by the similar increase in enconomy and i've got a bit more scope for overtaking when I need it :-)

Yeah i definately noticed a difference when i started using the higher ron stuff(as then Optimax) seems that bit more responsive than on the standard fuels.

Also thats all i use since the stage 2 remap ;) which may have an effect

I usually run Total Excellium 97 as its near to work, other than that it's Tesco 99. I must say i have tried Shell V Power and have noticed the difference straight away but this could just be me being a bit more heavy on the right foot.

ian :D

Has anyone tried or know anyone who uses the diesel equivalent?

I have nearly always used the diesel v power, I think that it is better than the other high end stuff that is available. Truth be told, if you are not re-mapped then can you notice the difference? I am someone who also thinks the car runs smoother when clean so dont listen to me.

my mate runs his on the same fuel as your asking about and i drove it for a bit, it was returning about 31 32 mpg and that was putting foot down too, so i reckon you could get more if you went steady, i would say it def improves performance though, will burn quicker.
