Apparently the new skud will be launched in September this year, with an vRS to follow in September of next year. I was also told it is going to be a diesel!! but one which will put out 190bhp, so that's ok then.

I read somewhere that the combi version of the new Octy is also due next year at some point, so the load lugger lovers will have to 'make do' with the current version for a bit longer. Would have been nice to see some pics of it though.

i think for the VRS version they should stick to petrol. diesel is fun to drive but petrol is better for driving fun and performance.

Jon won't be happy with a 190bhp diesel in the new lineup since it will make his recent acquisition look even more puny..... :(

mmmmmmmmm, octavalicious.

i've pretty much made up my mind in principle that i'll be getting the vRS version when it comes out, diesel or petrol. looks like a great car which has all the attributes of this one - understated elegance, good build/quality materials/space for the family and hopefully a cracking engine!!

looking forward to it already.......

If the new vRS is a diesel, i'll be looking elsewhere for my next car i think.

I don't need diesel economy, so i don't see any reason to buy one.

Ditto that.

More related to Huck's post, for me it depends on how much the Skoda nudges VW prices. Since I've had the RS I've said to many people that I would never have another VW when I can just buy a 'cheaper version' ie Skoda. If I had the money I would certainly entertain an Audi but a VW at the moment seems pointless.

Agree with that, but your right about the price shift. It may well be a case of cheap basic car, but then loading on the extras pushes the price right up to VW levels, especially with the introduction of the DSG gearbox. So the new skud may not be such a bargain after all, we shall wait and see.

oh yeah absolutely. i'm not going to hand over thousands for extras (within reason). if they keep to the spirit of the current VAG pricing structure, then i'm sold, if not then i'm not.

Although the new car looks fine and is probably well-made, I must echo some of the sentiments above. No performance petrol (turbo) engine? I'm out. No 4x4? I'm out. VW-ish prices? I'm out.

I'm fond of my Skoda, I'm not fond of Skoda per se.

Mattijs

Im going partly the same way, basically no 4x4 & I'm out although I would take a Diesel, 190 bhp should tweak to about 230 which is where I am now with the Petrol one.

If pricing goes to VW level then again Im out, If they are priced the same then the VW will be a better buy due to less depreceation, badge snobbery & all that but I just dont want to be associated with being a VW driver, I'm not a conformistly Grey & boring member of society !!!!

Will be interesting to see what the price structure is....MKV Golf not too well in the Fatherland due to it being over priced.

Hopefully the new Octy won't be shifted up to fill the void left by the MKIV Golf.

Must admit to liking what I have seen so far.

On the 2nd page of the Geneva pictures, does the badge say FSI underneath the Octavia badge with the spoiler? If so you know which engines they are going to fit.

It does, and we already know what engines they are going to fit... :D

- 1.4 MPI (75 hp), 1.6 MPI (102 hp), 1.6 FSI (116 hp) and 2.0 FSI (150 hp)

- 1.9 TDI (105 hp), 2.0 TDI (140 hp)

So !! When will models be anounced, anyone any ideas, I just need the 4x4/RS question answered. It might look good but if it comes without attitude then its "just another box on wheels!!".

Even if they make them there is no guarantee they will be available in the UK, lets just hope they are. Still if they are not it bodes well for the secondhand values of the RS & 4x4

yea if thats the only engines available ill need to find a different car to buy next!

This is only the inital engine choice.... the vRS and other versions including the estate will arrive later.. With a wider range of engines and transmission choices....

cheers

You want detail?

THIS will give you DETAIL!

The German Skoda forum has put an RTF file online with the official Skoda press information for the Geneva show. You can find it here:

http://www.kunax.de/Forum/pressemappe_Genf_04.rtf

Yup, looks like a Press Pack to me.

My German ain't what it used to be though.

I did glean that the DSG box is only going to be available with the oil burners (or did we cover that already??) There should be a similar document available at the Motor Show here if any that are going can find the Press Office. They are normally happy enough to dole out stuff like that if you look vaguely journo-like ;)
