Dude at work has a 2.6 Audi A4, running in a P reg shell - old one me dears!

Thought I'd have the fecker on a private road.

Followed him off behind onto a dual carridge way and try as hard as my Furby would go - I just slipped past him.

I was expecting a full on rag past him leaving him in his ****ty 150bhp in a wake.

I know figures are for mugs but somebody needs to help me out with this one:-

Ok then, he ways 100 kg less than me AND althogh he runs 22 valves more than me he's go nothing in the torque stakes.

I know I need a remap but I've shaken MR2 roadsters without a jot of trouble and then a ****e old old Audi nearly holds me off - I'll replensih my overdraft and then Jabba - prepare for a moaning wanna be - "here I come"

it's all a question of torque vs revs...

the diesel will be very torquey, but low revving...

the petrol will have less torque, but revs faster..

OK, so the A4 weighs less, and has more power. And you thought you'd outdrag him because....

Even in a remapped Fabia, there's not much difference

Well I've managed comfortably, sorry if this doesn't meet or match your experiences.

the reason you beat the MR2 and not the Audi is because when playing against the audi it was staged and everyone knew there was going to be some playing but the MR2 didn't. makes a massive difference, as i've overtaken ferraris, porsches and lambo's but i don't say i'm quicker than them

but if you're overtaking surely you are faster than them

Oliver, you managed to beat a lighter and more powerful car than yours, and at well over twice the mpg - I'd call that a win

its never a win to own a fabia :P

also he only weighs 60Kg less than you not 100Kg

but he does have a slight defecit of 85Nm of torque, anyway as long as it was safe and fun everyones a winner(well except the fabia driver as they are all losers )

Kept up in a "comparision" between my mate in a new 197 clio, striaght line, private road. He was gobsmacked and I was too, although he had only done a couple of thousand mile and i've done 10k miles.

Nothing wrong with a bit of fun! aslong as you don't shout your mouth off about it.

I knew very well he would get to a corner and go round it but I would go straight on due to brakes/suspension setup

either he wasn't driving it right or they are way slower than the old 172's

i had a play with a 172 the other day and was perfectly even with it from 30-100mph with my car not being able to rev beyond 5k so only making around 230bhp and i could easily beat a remapped fabia on the airfield

They are slower than the 172's, IIRC the 182's are still the fastest Clio's out.

Except the CUP versions of course
