Difference between fabia 130 Bhp RS engine and 101 Bhp TDI

Featured Replies

Hello Briskodians,

Can't wait for my new fabia to arrive, in the meanwhile...

Can someone tell me what's the difference in engine between the tdi 101 bhp and the vRS version ?

(bought a fabia estate tdi 101 bhp and rs engine is not available in estate version  )

cheers

My 2p worth (having gone from tdi to vRS) - it's quieter and goes faster :)

It's all to do with the high pressure injection system, the 130bhp vRS engine is a Pumpe-D

Skoda should bring out a combi vRS Fabia - I reckon there would be a strong market for one..

anyway, the main reasons for the differences in power are:

1) Larger injectors (or at least larger nozzles capable of flowing more fuel)

2) Larger turbocharger

The engine internals are stronger (conrods, pistons etc) on the vRS and the gearbox is different too. There a lots of other small differences between the two engines, but taken back to the basics they are similar.

Well I thought the 101 version also has "Pumpe-D

How about 1 extra cog in the box of the vRS?

I'm sorry,... what's a cog ?

Very true, but he's asking about the engine, not the gearbox ;)

Cog = Gear

The Fabia vRS has a 6-speed box, as opposed to 5 speed on the others :)

Oh okay :) didn't know that one (I'm from Belgium)

Anyways, back to the engine, would it make sense to replace some parts of the engine to get closer to the vRS spec, instead of chiptuning it ?

I mean, is it possible to "re-build" the engine to an RS ?

Welkom Cybfox !

I think the only option is to try and drop in a 130HP engine into the car, not attempt any rebuilding works. Besides, you can make that engine put out nearly 150BHP with only a little work, very little work. ;)

Hallo Quinten ! dankjewel.

Devonutopia: talk to me, 150 bhp sounds verrrryyyy appealing to me

What mods do you suggest ? ( chipmodding alone won't get an additional 50 %... or is it? )

:D Pretty much, yes it will.

Basically there's a friendly place just across the English Channel from you that will plug their machinery into your car's ECU, stick a little chip in it ( i think ) and reprogram it to increase fuelling and other bits and bobs. It makes the PD100 a little bit nippy.

The first car I had done was put up to 147BHP, whereas mine now is only 143, but I'm hoping Jabba can tweak it a little soon - either way it goes nice now.

It certainly does Jason :D:thumbup:

Chris

I thought the noise was the other way around. From wjhat I have read in magazines they thought the PD130 was more noisy than the other PD units.

Nope it's definately quieter than the pd100 I owned. But this could be down to the gearbox and the fact that I don't need to rag the 130 as much as the 100 to get it going. Saying that the 100 is no slouch.

The turbo is much more vocal on the 130 but then that's nothing bad.

D

Welcome Cybfox

The other difference is that there is an intercooler on the 96kw and not on the 74kw engines, but you might as well come over on le shuttle and get the chip fitted, although there are probably some fine places in Belgium, France and the Netherlands.

ahaa ! Rooboy found the answer... I couldn't believe there wasn't a big part missing to get additional 30 BHP. Just checked the website and indeed I overlooked the intercooler. Hmmm... is there an aftermarket intercooler ?

As for chiptuning, there are some tuners more nearby then across the channel :-) . But I'm not sure about factory warranty, insurance etc.

Thanks for the answers guys.

Btw, this is the first forum I've ever felt comfortable at. Nice community....

First of all, welcome Cybfox.

Secondly, there are various companies that can make custom intercoolers of which I am looking into myself for the vRS. Unfortunately with the chip tuning, there is very few that are manufacturer friendly. Make sure with your dealer if they are ok with this first. Some dealers are willing to overlook the fact it is not standard, but they are very few and far between! :(

Glad you enjoy the Briskoda community and keep posting. We are all willing to help each other where possible. :D

Nope, the 100pd tdi 74kw also has an intercooler. The difference really is the internals and fuelling, think the turbo is also kicking about a bit more PSi.

Anyway like everyone else says a chip job will give you all the BHP and torque you need.

 Oh my god!

There is an intercooler in every TDI. The >>I<<< letter actually means that there is an intercooler on board.

Hi, Ihave got a 130PD engine and 6speed box for sale if it is of any interest to you. It is complete with all ancilaries and ECU and has done 900 miles.

PM me if of any interest.

Also my 100PD when chipped with an air filter gave a dyno graph of 159BHP after only 1000miles, so do tune well but still feels slower than a standard 130PD. Think this is due to the different torque curve, as the 130 has a much stronger, low end torque, more than even a chipped 100!

So where is said Intercooler on the SDi then??

The 'I' still stands for Injection as it does on petrols.

Yes - you are wrigt of course!

I was not precise. I meant that if you can see TDI-sign on a car you can be sure that there is an intercooler inside.
