Hard to know what to do about it other than chopping in my job though ;)

You could always plant some trees :P:rofl:

  • A landmark reached 3 weeks ago. Car is running better that ever! VAG

  • Achieved on Thursday. Still runs well, once it starts (fuelling problems prevent starting at times; under investigation).

Yes, my car, my partner's car, our house and my company are all fully carbon offset.

Kinda hard to plant a tree without having a garden :P

Suppose running my web servers in Germany means I'm doing the UK's carbon footprint a favour :o;)

Pah - what a lame excuse. Think of the planet! :P

What about a window box? ;)

Chris

I can have one of those tree-shaped air fresheners if that helps :D

Do you lot who do >50,000 a year do any carbon off setting? How many trees do you plant to help reduce your significant impact.

I do 20k a year. Would be a lot more, but I lift share.

I reduced my significant impact by buying an Octavia TDi and averaging 54 mpg  The 140g/km CO2 rating is still pretty impressive and it's nearly six years old!

No really any problems at all split top turbo hose and smashed the sump within a week of each other about 3 years ago. change the oil, filters etc every 10k and use a good quality oil like castrol edge 0-30 or 5-30 and yes it gets hammered hard

My Fabia 1.9 Tdi Comfort has now covered 122,674 miles. I've had the rear shocks and front ARB bushes changed and sorted the squeeky dash and leaky doors. Apart from that I have had no problems and it still pulls nicely.

My first car was a 1986 Ford Escort 1.4 L Petrol and I eventually got rid of it with 172 k on the clock. Rust killed it off but engine was still ok.

Now that is impressive 172k out of a mid 80's car.

This is the same issue which killed off my Maestro - that engine just wouldnt die but the body sure did - rot within 12 inches of the suspension points.

IIRC MPG used to be around 25mpg due to it having only a 4 speed box.

Bought it just under 2yrs ago with 75k on IIRC, has been very reliable on the whole, main problem is the AC has never worked. Other problems were wear and tear like worn bushes, minor wiring issue with the alternator, dodgy central electrics module that caused the wipers to stop working and I managed to twist the selector shaft in the gearbox when changing gear a little too hard. :o We've finally got it booked in at Seat for the AC looking at so hopefully that will be sorted soon. Next thing to go I reckon will be the clutch as there's been the odd instance of slip, however I think it is still on the original.

:)

92,000 on my 1982 Cortina 1.6, has cost me nearly £100 in maintenance and repairs over the last 3 years.

And I am sure the shell looks better than it did out of the factory.

Chris

Only 71000 on the Fabia, so I have to wait 10 weeks to get on the register.

250k Citroen BX 19RD, it was ULSD that killed the fuel pump seals.

140kish 306 SLDT before somebody drove through it :(

208k on M reg Vauxhall Cavalier 1.7TD (bought with 20k on) - traded in  for Fabia vRS (dealer had £1,000 for your car any condition, as long as it has 3 months MOT - he coughed a lot :D when I told him the mileage)

110k on 91 Jetta TD Sport (written off by uninsured driver) - bought with 10k on it

100k on Renault 18TD - forget details

150k on Renault TD - forget details but from new (and then engine blew at 150k)

All the above were used for private-hire driving

Do I get an entry 'cos of the rate of miles...?

I have an 06 Furby VRS with 65000 on it, and climbing at the rate of 1300 miles per week!

I know I'm not up to the 80000 required, but it's a driving school car and gets... erm... abused!

It's stood up extreamly well thus far... just standard Furby VRS stutter (gasket cured it!), 2 blown bulbs and a buckled wheel (due to water-filled deep pot hole! ).

No rattles, squeaks or breakdowns. Which is better than some of my instructor collegues in their MINIs (so far 100% breakdown rate of local instructors running MINIs!) and Corsas (15% breakdown rate!). Would I have another....? Skoda, make me a 170bhp 2.0 Turbodiesel Mk2 Furby VRS, and I'll batter my way to the front of the queue!

my company has a 1990 peugeot 205 diesel van with 335,000 miles on it!

owned it since new and although its just used as a spare now it still runs sweetly and i personally took it over the 300.000 mile barrier just over a year ago

The thing is those Cavaliers are so hardy the engines petrol or diesel just keep on going.

I still miss my old one now & again great fully independant rear suspension and and engine which just loved to be rev'd. Body work was immaculate nothing was wrong with it.

Engine was still superb when I sold it, body good too.

Too many little faults though - wiper arms, electric window + with the age and mileage was worried about travelling any distance in case something went.

Funny how you see quite a few Cavaliers - but you don't seem to see as many of the Vectra that followed. Vauxhall truly dropped one there.
