Hello there recnetly i kinda had 6 people in my car (silly i kno) which with combined weight of over 50 stone my lil 1.3 felicia strugged up hills an all and ever since my car doesnt pick up speeed or go as fast as it used to , does any one know wat i have done an how to fix it ? yes i kno overloading car bit of a tw*tish thing to do :( all information wud be big help :D

Did it overheat when carrying everyone? There's little else you can really damage engine wise.

Are you on SSS?

nope didnt over heat. mite of ragged it abit tho :(

Clutch slipping?

;) Incedentially I owned a Favorit Estate with a seven seat conversion a few years back...it coped very well with a full load of passengers and trailer!

mine didnt seeem to cope so well :( any one know wat i can do ?

Frankly no, not this time. Unless you've fried the clutch, I don't think the 2 things are even related.

Only thing I can think besides already mentioned clutch would be suspension/shock absorber failure but that would be obvious :)

Is there anything you can think of besides overloading that may have caused it?

When you are in top gear and floor it, do the revs increase without road speed

increasing?

when im in top gear my speeed tends to drop so doesnt really get the stage of over reving at all :( , cant really think of any other reason why my car would of slowed down cause i dont do alot more thn drive round with 3 or 4 people in my car.

Although 6 people wasnt perhaps the brightest idea, 50 stone is only the equivalent of 4 people at 12.5 stone each, (or 4 people at 10 stone and a bit of luggage) so its not really been overloaded from a weight point of view.

As others have said, this might not be the cause of the problem.

It just could be that after your "additional load" that the brakes are sticking.

Does the engine rev normal in neutral?

yes it seems to rev normal in neuatral i noticed tonight after gettin out the car with the engine still running the sound of gas from the back i bent down an somthing towards the back it firing out gas could this be the problem? exuast problem?

Sounds more like the rear brakes binding to be honest :)

think ill book it in the garage at some point see wats wrong hopefully wont cost to much to fix. any way thanks for your help guys, ill let u kno how it goes.

rear brake load sencer stuck???

rear brake load sencer stuck???

I see where you're coming from but AIUI those sensors are "line limiter valves" and won't hold the brakes on if stuck. In fact I have a mate who's Peugeot had the opposite problem; when the valve failed it left him with no rear hydraulic brakes.

coolio. just a ball park thourght.

I towed a knackered Rover 216 (engine blown) from the Tyne Tunnel to Wallsend on a rope and mine is fine so 6 people shouldn't make a difference. 1.3 as well

It sounds like a blown exhaust to me unless something more dramatic like the driveshaft but that should make a noise.

wen i push the acclrator pedal it sounds like air is comin out of some were it shudnt be frm the bk of the car

check exhaust at joins as they need to be sealed properly with paste and for any holes. Also i notice you had a huge chrome backbox on another post Could this be the culprit in losing gases too quickly without the rest of exhaust adapted to fit?

If you car is loosing power like this and there is the sound of air leeking out from the back then i would suggest that the baffeles in your exhaust have collapsed.

Get someone to give the car a little rev and feel for air coming out of the exhaust... if theres not much coming out then check for air being forced out of joints further down.

The sound of leaking air is probably the ammount of pressure in the exhaust as the air cant escape.

Just a suggestion... also ive heard of the oil filler cap being blown off with a de-baffled exhaust due to the ammount of pressure build up! lol

wow sounds like you know your stuff, i havent put the new back box on yet but i am hearing those sounds from the back so i may check that out. thanks

With the engine idling, put your hand over the end of the exhaust, and you should feel the engine either trying to stall, or blowing your hand off the exhaust, or both. If neither of these happens, there's a leak further up.

The trouble with leaky systems is that they may, but don't always, make the car run like a bag of spanners. I remember once patching the system up with exhaust bandages and a baked bean tin, in order to make the car run well enough to get it the 70 miles to an exhaust centre. Other cars the only evidence of the leak was an increase in exhaust noise!!

Yup i agree... i had a hole in my exhaust on my citroen zx 1.9d and it didnt half affect its performance.... just lost all power... suppose it depends where the leak is and on the different types of engine...

Should be easy enough to diagnose following the steps we have outlined... but i'd say deffo an exhaust problem!
