Yup i agree... i had a hole in my exhaust on my citroen zx 1.9d and it didnt half affect its performance.... just lost all power... suppose it depends where the leak is and on the different types of engine...

Should be easy enough to diagnose following the steps we have outlined... but i'd say deffo an exhaust problem!

Agreed in Jaymz case.

Perversely though, my Xantia TD broke its exhaust on the cat exit, and the only reason anyone noticed was that the downpipe landed on a cross-brace, increasing noise levels inside the car!

My brother's Zetec Escort sprung a leak near the CAT. This really upset the Lambda sensor and caused the engine to over fuel.

Has your consumption gone up or down?

im not sure i put 30 quid in my car the other day an ive only done 150 mikes an thats used half a tank ....is that good or bad (still learning bout cars:) )

Sounds bad to me, but older cars tend to be less economical than newer ones, and I'm spoilt by diesels anyway.

300 to a tank is normalish, 350 is fine.
