looks awesome.

Very nice.

Hmmm, not sure, Im a bit of a traditionalist with old golfs, Now oak green would look the danglies :D

Theres a bloke near me (yes another one!) with a mk2 in almost that exact colour, with black wheels, it's lowered a bit too much though so looks a bit silly.

I am doing my wheels in that ;)

There are two types of paint codes. Use the 'C2' option, bit more expensive, but stronger paint.

In my experiance I prefer a nice soldered joint with heatshrink over the top. Crimps can come loose over time especially in a hot engine bay.

Agreed- the only thing being you have to make sure you mechanically protect the joint, or the wire breaks off at the solder, due to getting brittle. I solder, heatshrink, spiral wrap, and then cable tie anything like that.

Bit more cleaning today, this is real slow and painstaking work but should be worth it in the end.

Also have trial fitted my MK2/4 hybrid pedal box, looks like it will work just fine..

(sorry about the poor pic)

Back up the workshop tomorrow morning, bit more sound deadening to remove on the bulkhead, getting there.

Little bit more this morning.

After the trial fit I removed the pedal box and gave it a quick paint to tidy it up.

All good progress.

Going hydraulic for the clutch is definitely a good move imho.

That engine bay prep must have taken hours!!! Took me long enough just to remove the waxy ****e from my old one! Good work my friend!

Any further progress?

Any further progress?

Hope not. Its christmas. He should be spending time with his family :)

Would it have been possible to use a 1.8T from a longitudinally mounted car like the passat and changed the manifolds to those of a transversely mounted motor or are there further differences?

Just out of interest :D

Using the Passat engines like the AEB i am sure that the sump has to be changed as well as the inlet and turbo manifolds.

Looking good MB :)

Im making my loom up now, Emerald V3 to TT loom.

all looking tasty i must say

I lost the will with my cables after i had run all the existing loom in the chassis rails. Does look a lot better for it though.

Are you going to run the mk3 wide track front suspension setup then Ross?

Yes mate, I have now bolted up the VR6 front set up, everything fits ok so far. Still need an anti roll bar but this is only put on so I can roll it around to the bodyshop. Brakes will be cleaned up ready to go back on. New wishbones and track arms are fitted, rack has been reconned. I have Powerflex bushes to go in the wishbones, will do these when they come back off after the bay is painted. Also fitted up the modded pedal box, looks like the hydraulic clutch arrangement will work just fine. Pedal height is spot on when the master cylinder is in and the brake light switch is fitted, the accelerator pedal also fits in a treat with the bar passing through the clutch base stop.

Also got the engine part stripped on the stand. Going to take it down to the head and block and clean it all up, run out of time today but may get up the unit later in the week.

There is nothing like a good build thread to keep you entertained

You've been busy, keep up the good work
