105 PD Engine Stutter - 2000rpm ish

Featured Replies

My other half has just collected her new 105 PD octavia and having done a few miles in it today i've noticed it has a distinctive stutter around the 2000 rpm mark. It doesn't do this all the time but it has certainly done it on a number of occasions today. Has anyone experienced anything like this or know an easy fix for it to save me the hassle of taking it back to the dealer. Car has only done 120 miles as well

God its slow compared to my VRS as well !!!!!

Cheers Folks

Mine is bolted to a DSG gearbox, its very smooth and has been for the last 1500 miles.

True .... But I guess your VRS would be slow compared to my TVR. ( Defending my soon to be picked up 105 Estate ) :D

It'll get quicker once the miles pile on. With 120 miles on the clock it will be very tight.

I wasn't slagging it off because its slow compared to my VRS as that would be like comparing apples and pears. We use the estate one as the workhorse so they serve two very different purposes.

Im just hoping that this stutter goes away once we get a few miles on it as if it doesn't this will be the first problem i've had with an octavia and were on our 4th now

gixer1979.... I know, just having a giggle. If we ever get our hands on ours ( ordered July 13th ) i'll let you know if I notice anything. Hopefully, with a little luck, if we're jammy, if. if. if..... This week sometime.... Please....Pretty please ?

can't say I ever noticed a "stutter" on mine, but DSG box smooths things out.

Is you "problem" possibly just the turbo coming on song??

That seems like a long time to have to wait Nick have you ordered loads of extras ? We only decided to buy one three weeks ago and its on the drive already although i have to admit we did tell them we weren't to fussy about colour as long as it was a metallic one.

On a plus note we did 160 miles in it yesterday and i only noticed the slight stutter once. 58 Mpg average as well although we were taking it steady with the dog in the boot

My 4x4 hiccup's now and again and had a strange vibration around 1500 rpm which turned out to be the DMF exploding but no stutter.

Yeah. Complete spec :

Flamenco Red Metallic with Onyx Cloth Trim

Xenon Headlights

Curtain Airbags

Maxi-Dot display

Light Assist

Front Mudflaps, Carpet Mats, Rubber Boot Mat, Door Sill Covers, Exhaust

Pipe End Half Pack Supagard ( interior & exterior )

Front heated seats

Thats good news about the stuttering then. Probably just a bit of something stuck somewhere that just needs running out.

I seem to remember reading that the Fabia VRS stutter has also affected the PD105 engines. A search should turn something up

Hi folks

Here's a "me too"! My 15 month old, 18k mile 105PD Elegance has a stutter as well! Seems to be around 2000rpm under light acceleration - it is only very light - feels like you are driving over a very slightly corrugated surface - apply a little more right foot and it goes away.

I was going to live with it until the next service.

There is a software update available for the 105 TDI with engine letters BXE which cures the "hesitation" around 1800-2200 rpm's

:)

Having thought this had gone away i've since been proved wrong, Did about 50 miles in the car today and the stutter was doing my head in :-(

Having just looked in the service book our engine does have the BXE code. Excuse my lack of knowledge but is the BXE just a reference number for the 1.9 105 PD or is it more detailed than that and relates to a particular batch of 105 PD's

If so has anyone had the software update jonA mentioned and if so did it make any difference ?

Also has anyone changed an EGR gasket on the 105 like many people do on the 130 and if so has that produced any results ?

BXE is an engine code. It is 03/06 onwards EU4 compliant

I currently run a Leon with the 105 1.9 engine (Octavia with the same engine on order) which has the same stutter at 2000rpm.

There was a very long thread on SeatCupra.net about it. It turns out it's a problem with the EGR valve (?) There is a fix where a gasket is changed oover to the one from the 2.0 engine or something like that.

I'll have a hunt for the thread and post it up.

Edit: found the post. This chap had been in and out of the dealers half a dozen times before the fault was eventually traced. He says he's not had a single stutter since the gasket was changed.

Okay I believe the problem has been fixed. I'll give it a full road test of a 250 round trip to Newcastle tomorrow but the intial signs are very good.

I'm not a car/engine technical person but......

The Problem.

It would apear to be a problem with recirculating the exhaust gases back into the engine, too much was been let back in under certain conditions (hovering at around 2,500 revs) which would choke the engine, hence the stutter.

The Fix.

The EGR exhaust pipe gaskit was replaced with a smaller one to stop the excess gas getting back into the engine, apparently a very quick and cheap fix.

The Thanks.

The guys down at Richard Alexander in Huddersfield have been top notch, no sign of been fobbed off at all. They have really put the time and effort into looking into this problem.

For more Info.

Give Richard Alexander a ring 01484 360050 and ask to speak to Chris Ellison, he is the guy that has done all the diagnostics and found the fix. He can repeat this problem manually now and is going to speak to SEAT technical to find out if this is an approved solution.

Cheers folks, sounds like the gasket option is the best place to start. Has anyone got any pictures of where this is located on the 105 PD ???

Will be getting it re mapped once this stutter problem is sorted but dont wanna do it until im happy with the way it runs as standard :-)

Similar to the Fabia you'll have a connecting pipe from the cooler to the underside of the EGR.

Why aren't Skoda aware of it? They tell me it was for the BXE engine in the fabia.

Hi!

I'm afraid I don't know why your Skoda dealer isn't aware of this. Maybe it's not an official "fix" in the UK? Beats me.. I work at Skoda a dealer in Norway, and the flash update for the BXE engine I use is on the latest update CD and is intended for use in the Octavia II. Haven't seen any Fabias with the BXE engine over here..

I have testdriven several cars both before and after the update, and it has done what it is supposed to do (fix the stuttering/hesitation between 1800-2200 rpm and a light load or change of load on the engine) on all the cars I have updated. :)

Hope you and your dealer find a solution to the problem. :)

thankyou - this is Skoda UK telling me this - and the dealer!

I took it to the dealer yesterday to look at, and guess what, couldn't reproduce the fault. It was fine all day yesterday. The car never did it when I bought it, 2 months ago. I seem to recall it only started doing it after the first tank of diesel I filled the car up with. I don't use supermarket fuels, just Shell. It is now on its second tank and the fault has gone. I am under the impression I had a dodgy tank of fuel. How likely is this? Dealer hooked car up to diagnostics no fault codes etc. All in all good to check to see if everything was fine and dandy with the dealer.

Oh and very good service from Simpsons Preston. - cheers.
