Coin slots

Featured Replies

So I was a bit bored in a traffic jam, and decided to see which

coins fitted in the little coin holder thing next to the handbrake.

It's too narrow for pound coins! :(

Any denomination beneath this fits, with 50p being the optimum

size - not sure on 2 pound coins though, as I didn't have one.

I was wondering if anyone knew what coins these are actually

designed for, as pound coins seem to be the most useful when

paying for parking, and in other cars I've had they've always

fitted pound coins perfectly.

Maybe our Irish/continental members find there's a more

appropriate denomination of Euro that fits perfectly?

Many years ago I was airborne from Malta at night with my crew of 11 in a Shackleton Mk 3 somewhere over the Mediterranean. All was quiet and some of the crew had their brains on standby, including my co-pilot who was quietly fiddling with switches. For some reason he decided to raise the safety guard over the bomb release on his control column and press the button. It shouldn't have mattered since it was not possible to release any weapons in the bomb bay with the bomb doors closed.

However what he did not realise was that pressing the button would fire the 6 1.75 inch photoflashes housed in a discharger in the roof near the rear of the aircraft. You can imagine the reaction of the crew when we all heard 6 loud explosions in quick succession from the rear of the aircraft - accompanied by blinding flashes of light as each photoflash produced the advertised 70 million candle power for 1/70th of a second. eek.gif

The moral of that - and it has stood me in good stead since - is don't fiddle with things when you don't have to.

Is that relevant to Rob's observation, or do I need to move myself into the Lounge? :D

An amusing read...would the photoflash things have fitted in

the coin slots though?! :p

Brilliant!! Didn't realise that you were actually Biggles :airjock: - is your dog called Ginger? Now I understand why you didn't get a VW :D

 Ginger wasn't Biggles' dog, it was one of his chums!

I think KentStu might have known that!:D

I admit it is fascinating to have a peek into Denis' past. Do you remember the old Carling Black Label advert with the Lancasters and the bouncing bomb? (Lancasters related to the Shackleton I believe.) Now I can picture Denis taking off his mask thingy and talking in the odd radio chatter/feedback way that the comedian in the advert did.

In fact the first line of his post sounds like the opening line of a novel. 'It was a dark and stormy night, somewhere over the Mediterranean...'

Dont use the coin holder I assumed it would hold

Yes the Shackleton was related to the Lancaster , both were built by AVRO (A.V Roe Ltd) I beleive.

The Shackleton - wasn't that (rather fondly) described as "ten thousand rivets flying in formation"?

Thanks for that - I was curious if they'd be designed for Czech

coins, or if the tray was nabbed from the VAG parts bin and

so would suit German coins better. Mine look like they're all

the same size, but I guess the differences would be tricky

to spot.

Going to take a full pocket of change with me on the M6

tomorrow... ;)

From CZ coins to Lancaster bombers in one post!!! Beat that VWVortex!!! :D

For us Van drivers and conisseurs of luxury, be warned!

The central arm rest somthing I was using as my store of loose change for quite a while now makes a great coin holder  I have 2 20p's jammed in each of the hindges at the back so I can only open a few degrees. It's totally destroyed 1 pencil trying to get them out in traffic.

Can't lever the lid off due to wedging properties of aforementioned coins...If I can find my long nose pilers I might get them out; if I don't I'll send Clare to the dealers with it.

Denis can you explain why?: Contra-Rotating Nissen Hut

I can't remember if my vRS has the coin holder.

There's a pop up cup holder just after the handbrake so I suppose there isn't one. Or may be it's after the cup holder? I'll have to look later.

Must admit whilst the operation of the cup holder is good it postioning is poor. It's diffucult to locate when driving and if used for anything bigger than soft drink can, the container gets in the way when changing gear.:cussing:

Cheers.

On mine the fold out cupholder is between the handbrake and

the driver's seat. So it doesn't get in the way of changing

gear, but is a real pain when driving round town and trying to

use the handbrake!

From memory the coinslots are behind the fold out cupholder.

Rob.

Ever thought that they could be for the EURO, you know the currency They DON'T want you to know about.

(sorry for the corny use of the old Nissan Almera add) or was it the Almera that was corny.
